Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the fashion capital of the world – Milan! ?? I must confess, my little heart practically did a pirouette when I stepped off that train and into the city’s bustling heart. My trip was inspired by the amazing Milan International Ballet Festival, which is taking place this month, but you know me, a Pink Tutu trip isn’t complete without a little dose of sightseeing and some fabulously fashionable finds!
As usual, my travels are fueled by a mixture of sheer, sugar-fueled enthusiasm and, let’s be honest, the magical proceeds of my latest ballet performances. This week, I've been lucky enough to grace the stage at a beautiful little theatre in Derbyshire, so a slice of Milanese magic seemed very much in order!
Tram Trouble and Tutu Treasures
My first foray into Milan was a tad more dramatic than planned. Picture this: me, all dressed up in my favourite blush-pink tutu, a little overexcited to be back in Europe after so long, waltzing through the grand Milano Centrale train station, completely lost. The station, by the way, is practically a palace on its own! Thankfully, a friendly Italian gentleman in a smart suit spotted my little dilemma (probably due to my somewhat frenzied pointing and hand gestures!) He directed me to the right tram – the Number 1, by the way – and off I went.
Now, I love a good, old fashioned tram journey. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak in the sights and sounds of the city, all from a lovely vintage vantage point. It’s also ideal for spotting potential outfit inspiration – Milan, of course, being the world’s sartorial hub!
The first thing that hit me was the sheer glamour and vibrancy of Milanese life. Imagine it: sleek cars zipping around, stylish Milanese ladies walking by in designer ensembles (a lot of Valentino pink, by the way!) and the aroma of coffee brewing from every cafe imaginable. It's enough to make you want to twirl! ?
A Ballet Lover’s Paradise
My main reason for this trip was the glorious Milan International Ballet Festival. You guys, I have a little secret confession: I adore a bit of backstage gossip and backstage action! It’s part of what fuels my creativity – knowing the artistry that goes into bringing these beautiful performances to life!
This year’s festival was truly a celebration of global talent. From breathtaking contemporary dance pieces to classically trained dancers captivating the audience with their breathtaking skill – I felt truly spoilt for choice! There were also some brilliant workshops and masterclasses happening, and let me tell you, my toes were positively itching to join in! I was just too mesmerised by the performances to actually join in, though. I will definitely be attending some next time though!
Shopping for Inspiration
Speaking of inspiring, let’s talk fashion! Milan is like a catwalk of creativity, and the shops are bursting with so much inspiration! I was particularly mesmerised by the little boutiques around Piazza della Scala, especially one that had the most beautiful pink silk scarf adorned with dainty ballet shoes! I immediately bought it, naturally, and have been twirling with it ever since!
Eating and Drinking
The Italian love for life, and for their food, really shines in Milan! I’m sure everyone reading this is already picturing delicious pizza and pasta – but believe me, even as someone who usually eats quite healthily, I indulged in it all! (My favourite was the truffle risotto, I couldn’t get enough!) But there’s something for every taste here, from gourmet trattorias to authentic bakeries and, my absolute personal favourite, gelato. The creamy, fresh flavors had me wandering around town on a gelato pilgrimage. There is a certain magic about strolling through Milan with a creamy cone in your hand, don’t you think?
Fashion Forward
One thing that struck me about the fashion scene here was how elegant and refined everyone looked. No matter where I looked, people were immaculately dressed – but never stuffy or pretentious. It was an atmosphere where fashion seemed both accessible and aspirational – a true love for style that resonated through the entire city!
You know I always like to embrace my signature look – the Pink Tutu! In Milan, this playful style really made a splash! ?? I wore my bright pink tulle skirt with a sleek white shirt for a touch of Milanese elegance, but still managed to incorporate my tutu with pride! The city’s vibrancy seemed to echo my style, embracing boldness with a hint of whimsy.
A Farewell to Milano
My time in Milan may have been short, but it’s been one I’ll always cherish! This city is simply dazzling, full of creative energy, warmth, and fashion magic. It really does leave you wanting to embrace every bit of life with a twirl and a smile.
So until next time, darlings, keep twirling, keep dancing, and never stop dreaming! Don’t forget to stay fabulous!
And of course, always, Embrace the Pink! ?
Love,
Emma xoxo
P.S Did you know, today, December 15th, 2027, is National Ballet Day in Italy? It’s an amazing day to celebrate everything this wonderful art form represents – strength, artistry, and grace! I’m going to enjoy some time catching a performance tonight and dreaming up new moves. Let me know what you’re doing to celebrate! ?
