Pink Tutu Milan: #1720 - A whirl through Milan's Fashionable Heart

Ciao bellas!

It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-loving, travel enthusiast, and I'm bursting with excitement to share my latest adventures with you all from the fabulous city of Milan! As always, I'm on a mission to spread the love of tutus, the joy of ballet, and a healthy dose of girly-girly sparkle wherever I go.

This week, my little pink heart is overflowing with happiness because… well, just look at this magnificent city! I'm currently sat in the most delightful little café, enjoying a decadent slice of limoncello cake, the sunshine pouring in through the window, and watching the stylish Milanese stroll by. Let me tell you, Milan's got an unmistakable chic energy - like everyone here just woke up knowing they were about to slay the day with their impeccable fashion. And who am I to argue?

Before we delve into the exciting happenings of the past few days, I have to confess that travelling to Milan felt like stepping onto the set of a beautiful ballet production. From the moment I hopped off the train (yes, I even managed to wear my pink tutu on the train journey - let’s be honest, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan blog without a little bit of pink tutu travel!).

Speaking of trains, this is just a small disclaimer that I absolutely adore taking the train. There's something magical about being surrounded by the whirring and clanking of the railway tracks as you hurtle through the countryside. It’s like a whimsical journey in itself - it even inspires me to write in my ballet journal (the best way to get my creative juices flowing, darling). This week, I felt like I was starring in my own romantic train film - think sweeping views, the feeling of anticipation as I get off at my stop, and a soundtrack of violins (you know I love those strings!).

Now, back to Milan! It truly is a city for everyone – even for us tutued-up, ballet-mad gals. The past few days have been filled with glorious experiences, and of course, it’s not all just waltzing and pirouetting – though, there has been a bit of that. ?

The Enchanting "Don't Touch the Cat"

This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of witnessing a phenomenal ballet performance at the Teatro alla Scala, a grand old lady of a theater steeped in history and dripping in opulent details. The ballet itself, “Don’t Touch the Cat”, was a whirlwind of contemporary elegance and playful satire. I adored the vivid costumes (a touch of pink in a couple of costumes, naturally!), and the intricate choreography felt like a vibrant dream. The dancers, my oh my! Each one a vision of graceful strength, gliding effortlessly through their roles like shimmering ribbons in the wind. It was such a breathtaking spectacle that I think I actually forgot to take my usual Insta pics because I was lost in the magic of it all.

And don't get me started on the architecture of the Teatro alla Scala. Talk about grand and beautiful! Marble floors, gold leaf accents, ornate balconies - it was like stepping back in time. It was such an amazing experience. After the show, I even ventured into the theatre’s grand foyer to try and soak up some of the ambiance. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if I could practically hear the ghosts of ballet legends still dancing their hearts out on that beautiful stage. And as I floated through the foyer in my pink tutu, I truly felt a part of that glorious heritage.

Ballet on the Streets of Milan

This city, truly, it is alive! After spending some time admiring the artistry of "Don't Touch the Cat”, I spent a gloriously sunny Wednesday exploring the heart of Milan, taking in its pulsating life through my rose-tinted ballet-loving glasses. I popped into some quaint boutiques, picked up some cute accessories to go with my tutus (it’s all about colour-coordinating, you know!) and discovered some delicious, locally sourced food (yum!). Oh, I also enjoyed a cappuccino (you can't go to Italy without trying a cappuccino!). I took in the charming streets and the charming little cafes that were popping up on every corner - a veritable kaleidoscope of Milanese charm.

In the afternoon, I wandered into one of the most stunning gardens, the Giardini Pubblici. It's a hidden green paradise in the heart of the city! I lost myself in its serene atmosphere, imagining I was pirouetting amongst a symphony of birdsong. It felt so good to stretch and move in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The lush gardens, fountains, and elegant statues truly felt like a ballet performance brought to life. Honestly, every corner in this city makes you feel like a ballerina.

Later that evening, I stumbled upon a fabulous surprise - a pop-up ballet performance on the street! This little group of dancers was performing their hearts out in a bustling street market, captivating onlookers with their synchronized movements and dynamic energy. Now, I just love those kinds of experiences – these little, impromptu performances on a street corner – the spontaneity, the enthusiasm, the way that ballet transcends expectations. They were showcasing the magic of movement and passion in the most unassuming way – and I simply had to stop, stand, and admire them. Of course, I couldn't resist whipping out my trusty phone to film a little video (which I’m definitely posting on my Instagram for you to enjoy!),

As I strolled back to my apartment, my mind buzzed with excitement from all the wonderful moments of the day. The sights, the smells, the conversations (I tried speaking a little Italian!), everything seemed so colourful and dynamic, mirroring the intricate movements of the dancers I had encountered throughout the day. This feeling – this vibrancy – that’s what makes Milan such an amazing place! You truly never know what adventure you’ll encounter around the next corner.

Finding My Fashion Inspiration

If there's one thing I absolutely adore about Milan, it's its dedication to style! It's everywhere – in the beautiful shopfronts, the stylish locals, and even the street food! (Have you seen those Instagram-worthy coffee cups? They could practically compete with my pink tutus! Just kidding…. Maybe…)

Of course, it’s not just a fashion city - Milan is the fashion city. A centre for designers, an inspiring mecca for budding fashionistas. My inner stylist simply squeals with excitement. This week I have had so much fun simply admiring all the stunning clothing stores - think gorgeous fabrics, textures, colours and cuts - oh my! I am really a fan of this stylish side of Italy - It definitely makes me feel like a queen - even more so with my pink tutu!

This week, my heart is filled with dreams of designing my own collection of tutu dresses and skirts. They'd be perfect for adding a little whimsical, fun-loving spirit to any look! Imagine it - soft pink tulles flowing gracefully as I stroll through the city, a delicate ballerina vibe without a drop of discomfort! I'm starting to see my collection in a dreamy pink palette with delicate beading and sequin detailing – a luxurious yet playful interpretation of the traditional tutu. Oh, I can practically see it already!

Now, don't get me wrong – I absolutely adore traditional ballet tutus. Their elegant silhouettes, the graceful way they move with every step… just pure magic. I actually started learning ballet in Derbyshire, you know. At a beautiful little dance school near my village - it was such a treat! You can probably imagine a little me twirling and twirling in my tutus while dreaming of becoming a ballerina. But as I’ve gotten older, I love finding new ways to incorporate those classic styles into a more modern aesthetic. You’ve gotta find what works for you, don’t you think?

A Ballet-Lover’s Paradise

There's just something about Milan, isn't there? Maybe it's the history of this elegant city, maybe it's the vibrant fashion culture, maybe it's the gorgeous food! But something tells me that, deep down, it's all because this place has such a beautifully artistic heart! And ballet, after all, is an art form all about expressing your heart - how could I possibly be unhappy? This city brings out the best version of my dancing spirit! I honestly could spend all my time in this artistic metropolis just enjoying every moment.

Until next week, bellas! Stay fabulous! Keep shining! Keep twirling! And definitely remember to keep a look out for the latest Pink Tutu Milan blog! I will definitely be sharing my adventures, the wonderful shows and shopping! (Not to mention more details about my future tutu collection - watch this space!). Remember: pink tutus for all! And always follow your heart!

Ciao!
