Buongiorno, my darling tutu-lovers! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina, Emma, bringing you another delightful dose of pink tulle from the fashion capital of the world, Milano!
This week, I've been absolutely buzzing with excitement. I mean, what’s more exciting than ballet? Well, maybe ballet AND pizza – which I indulged in a frankly outrageous amount of last night after a fantastic performance at the Teatro alla Scala! (Pizza and ballet: it’s the perfect combo, if you ask me).
So, how did this week begin? Well, the magic of travel kicked in bright and early on Monday, with a whimsical ride on the Milano tram (with my trusty pink tutu, naturally) from my hotel to the heart of the city. As I whizzed past grand architecture, bustling markets, and charming little cafés, it was clear to me that Milan was truly a city brimming with beauty.
Speaking of beauty, I simply couldn't resist popping into a few shops after the tram ride to admire the gorgeous garments. My eyes practically sparkled at the sight of silks and velvets, ruffles and bows – I must say, the Italians have a real knack for creating beautiful and timeless pieces! You wouldn't believe the gorgeous pink tutus I found - even the ones without a pink hue seemed to radiate pink energy with their delicate femininity! I mean, who needs boring black when you can have the grace and elegance of pink?!
And as the week progressed, so did the ballet magic! I got to spend a whole day with the divine ballet dancers at the renowned Accademia Teatro alla Scala. Imagine a beautiful, historic studio, filled with dancers gracefully gliding across the floor, their bodies like delicate works of art! It was truly an inspiring day. Their dedication to the art of dance is what really drives me to wear my pink tutu and share this wonderful art form with everyone I can. I want to see everyone in a pink tutu, moving with grace and elegance like the professionals I had the privilege of seeing!
The Magical Performances of MilanNow, Wednesday evening brought something truly special: an utterly enchanting performance at the Teatro alla Scala itself. This grand theatre is practically a palace for ballet! I settled in my seat (pink tulle, of course, wouldn't miss it!) and let the magical performance sweep me away. The intricate steps, the powerful emotions conveyed, and the sheer skill of the dancers… it was an unforgettable experience. It left me completely starstruck, like a young child in a sweet shop, and frankly, I want to go back as soon as possible!
Thursday was an absolute delight! I spent the morning in the city's buzzing shopping districts, indulging in some fabulous vintage finds that whispered the stories of bygone eras. I found a stunning pair of rose-coloured opera gloves, which perfectly matched a vintage pink satin purse - I simply can't wait to showcase this treasure in my next post.
In the afternoon, a wonderful treat awaited: a thrilling ballet performance right in the heart of the city! It wasn't a conventional ballet performance; this was "ballet on the street" – and I'm talking ballet on the streets of Milano. Yes, you heard that right! The city's heart was transformed into a stage, showcasing incredible talent, a mix of passionate local and visiting dancers - some in vibrant costumes and dazzling tutus, others even performing in just their pointe shoes. It was breathtakingly vibrant, utterly joyous and an undeniable celebration of the power of dance to bring people together. It truly felt like the entire city was part of one grand spectacle! They definitely make a ballet out of life here! Even without a full-blown show, there is constant movement and beauty on display in Milan, every day. And how fantastically this is woven into every street corner, the most unexpected of settings!
The evening, though, brought a more relaxed, peaceful vibe as I joined some friendly locals in a serene park where children danced joyfully. As a group of kids twirled around in the fading sunlight, all in their pink tutus, I couldn’t help but beam at them and offer encouraging smiles. Their joy and passion for dancing was utterly contagious! It's a reminder that no matter your age, you can embrace the grace and beauty of ballet.
Food, Fashion and Fun in Milan!Saturday, as you all know, was a glorious opportunity to truly enjoy this beautiful city. After a divine cappuccino, I found myself strolling through the lively Duomo district. My steps couldn't help but get a little bit swifter and more elegant, because Milan is like walking on air in its gorgeous, fashionable atmosphere!
Oh, and I simply couldn't resist exploring the incredible Duomo, with its impressive architecture and historical grandeur. It was a fascinating exploration into art and faith, a truly moving and inspiring experience.
Of course, any Italian escapade has to include food! And Saturday delivered. My evening was filled with a truly heavenly Italian feast! The smells from the bakery lured me in to pick up some fresh pastries, while the local pasta shop served the most delicious pasta, the kind you can't get in England. It was absolutely sublime.
But before all that I popped in to the cutest vintage shop to get some gifts for family back home. The perfect excuse for some fashion indulgence in beautiful clothes from an older era - and yes, they did sell a beautiful antique pink tulle ballet tutu... I nearly took a running leap to the counter to grab it, but I decided a ballet outfit just wouldn't work back in Derbyshire - at least not in public - well not unless the fashion police give it the nod... Maybe a bit more London for me, in that case, next week.
Now, my dears, it's time for me to prepare for another fabulous ballet performance. It's a secret performance - I have been given tickets by my good friend from ballet class, she asked for my usual promise: not to reveal the location. But I can give you this clue: it's at the stunningly elegant, private ballroom of a 17th Century Palazzo. A ballet in a private palazzo - this really takes "pink tutu" fashion and travel to a new level!
I shall report back next Monday with a full rundown of the grand event, the venue, the dance moves, and all the glorious details - including photos, of course, on the www.pink-tutu.com website, naturally. And remember, even if you don't have a pink tutu, don't let that stop you from embracing the beauty and grace of ballet in your own way!
So, ciao bella, and remember, embrace your inner ballerina! Stay tuned!
