Buongiorno, darling tutu-lovers! ? It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, here, beaming at you from the enchanting city of Milan! I've just hopped off the tram (don't you love the way they click-clack through the cobblestone streets?) after a morning of ballet class at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala. My legs are tingling with the familiar bliss of a good workout and my mind is buzzing with inspiration!
It's Wednesday, September 13th, 2028, and the air in Milan is electric! Autumn is just around the corner, and it's time to say "ciao" to those glorious summer days filled with long, lazy picnics in the Parco Sempione and hello to cosy evenings spent in elegant Milanese cafes, sipping hot chocolate and dreaming of my next ballet adventure.
Speaking of dreams... have you heard about the incredible ballet show coming to Milan this week? I'm practically skipping with excitement because the one and only, Svetlana Zakharova, will be gracing the stage of the Teatro alla Scala! Oh, the grace! The elegance! The pure magic of her artistry! If you’re a ballet fan like me, trust me, you absolutely do not want to miss this! ✨
Before we dive into all the enchanting details of the Zakharova show and all the wonderful fashion and fabulous food that Milan has to offer, let's indulge in a bit of Pink Tutu Chatter, shall we?
The Power of Pink and Tutu Dreams ?Last week I was back in my home county of Derbyshire, and guess what? I inspired a whole group of young ballet dancers to wear pink tutus to their local ballet school! It was an absolute dream come true – watching their faces light up as they twirled in those bright pink tutus!
Just imagine a world where everyone embraced their inner ballerina, their individual sparkle! We all have that special something within us waiting to be unleashed, a hidden confidence waiting to shine through! And wouldn’t it be simply divine if we all expressed this inner beauty with a touch of pink tutu magic?
You don't have to be a professional ballerina to feel the joy and freedom of twirling in a pink tutu! It's about finding your own rhythm, expressing your inner grace and embracing the power of colour!
And speaking of pink power, you wouldn't believe what I found during my last shopping spree in Milan! ? It was the most adorable little vintage pink dress, perfect for those fancy cocktails we have in the evenings. It has a beautiful flowing skirt that just begs to be twirled in, and the bodice has the most charming little detail – a tiny, glittery bow that echoes my love for all things sparkly. You see, darling, it’s all about finding that little bit of magic in everything you wear, in every day of your life!
Fashion Finds and Ballet Bliss ?I love Milan because it’s a city that embraces style, but more than that, it embraces individual style. You can be your absolute, authentic self here, whether it’s sporting a bold, vibrant outfit or a more understated, classic ensemble. I feel like the Milanese are all secretly embracing their own little pink tutu moment in their own individual way.
Speaking of individuality, you know what truly excites me about Milan's ballet scene? The sheer variety of productions that you can see here! I recently discovered a local dance company called Compagnia Nuovo Balletto, and let me tell you, they’re blowing the doors off with their innovative contemporary work. The creativity is infectious!
One thing I’ve found myself particularly drawn to in this company's performances are the Ballet Street productions. I absolutely adore seeing ballet outside of the theatre setting, bringing the art form to new audiences and spaces. It's so refreshing and inspiring to witness ballet in unexpected environments – think vibrant public squares or cobbled alleyways, with the music echoing through the bustling streets of the city.
Speaking of amazing ballet experiences, let me tell you about the magnificent Svetlana Zakharova show!
Svetlana Zakharova: A Star in the Milanese SkyThis evening I’m heading back to the Teatro alla Scala, all decked out in a beautiful dusky pink dress, of course. (A little tip for any budding tutu-loving ballerinas, dear reader: you can't go wrong with a dusky pink! It's so sophisticated yet elegant and goes with just about everything.)
For those who haven't heard of her, Svetlana Zakharova is, well, let’s just say she's a ballet icon! Her grace and technical prowess are legendary, and to be honest, just the thought of seeing her in action sends shivers down my spine! It’s an honour just to be in the same room with a dancer of her caliber, but watching her dance is nothing short of mesmerising.
I am excited to see her performance of the timeless Swan Lake. It’s a classic piece with all those dreamy white tutus and breathtaking leaps, and Svetlana Zakharova's interpretation is renowned for her poignant emotional range. I'm prepared to be swept away by her performance!
The theatre, which dates back to the 18th century, has an air of history and opulence. There is nothing quite like sitting in the beautiful, ornate theatre, the velvet seats soft against my skin and the air filled with hushed anticipation, and being totally mesmerized by the performance unfolding on the stage.
You know, ballet isn't just about dancing; it's about storytelling! It's a way of capturing and expressing human emotions – joy, love, sorrow, pain – in a way that is both powerful and beautiful. It’s like stepping into another world. And this is what I love about ballet, and in particular, I love the fact that it’s something I can share with people all around the world, just like sharing my blog.
Sharing the Love of Pink and Ballet ?Every week, when I post a new blog on www.pink-tutu.com, I feel like I'm connecting with like-minded people around the world, those who share my love for ballet, fashion, and a little bit of pink magic!
I’ve had so many messages from people all over the world, and the connections I’ve made through sharing my passion for ballet have truly enriched my life! From tutu-wearing enthusiasts in the UK to aspiring dancers in Japan, there’s a worldwide community of ballet lovers just waiting to be discovered, and that makes me so happy!
I feel like it’s a little bit of pink magic that binds us together, this shared love for ballet!
One message from a reader really touched my heart. It was from a little girl named Alice in Australia who had been feeling shy about joining the local ballet class. She’d read one of my blog posts about the importance of expressing yourself through ballet and how it helped me come out of my shell and find my voice, and she wrote to tell me that she finally took the leap and started taking classes, wearing her favorite pink tutu with a huge smile! Moments like that, knowing that I’m encouraging others to embrace their love of dance, just fill my heart with joy.
Sharing a Slice of MilanNow, enough about me – let’s talk about what’s happening in this magical city of Milan. There's always something going on! It’s vibrant and cosmopolitan but also retains its old-world charm.
If you’re here this weekend, be sure to check out the Milan Design Week – a spectacle of cutting-edge design and architecture that will leave you awestruck! You can wander through a maze of creative installations and exhibitions and let your imagination run wild. This week will also be packed with delicious food events. Milan is, of course, known for its fantastic cuisine – delicious pasta dishes, delectable pizzas, rich risottos, and oh, the tiramisu! It’s almost enough to make you forget about all that twirling!
And the best part is, you can find something for every taste, every budget! I recently discovered a little family-run trattoria tucked away in the old city, serving up the most authentic Milanese cuisine. The owner is the sweetest little grandmother who always throws in a little extra parmesan cheese! (A little insider tip, my darling: Parmesan cheese makes absolutely everything tastier.)
But if there is one thing you can't miss, it’s the vibrant Milanese street life. Whether you're sipping a cappuccino in a chic café, strolling down the cobblestone streets, or wandering through the elegant fashion boutiques, Milan has this magical energy that just pulls you in. You feel the passion for beauty, for style, for life! I love it!
And, you know, as you're exploring the city, keep an eye out for pink. Pink accents in the window displays, pink blooms in the shop windows, even a dash of pink in the local ice cream shops! Milan loves pink!
You’ve all got to know that when it comes to the art of travel, there’s really no place I’d rather be than on a train, hurtling through a beautiful landscape, and feeling that magical anticipation of what’s to come. There's nothing quite like it, really, that sense of possibility!
And that, my dearest tutu-loving friends, is just a taste of the adventures waiting for you in Milan!
See you next week with another Pink Tutu update,
Lots of love, Emma x
