Ciao bellas! Emma here, reporting live from the heart of Milan! This week has been a whirlwind of excitement, a delicious mix of Christmas cheer, glittering ballet, and a spot of festive fashion. I'm starting to think the Milanese are obsessed with sparkles just as much as I am! ?
Let's rewind a little, shall we? I arrived in Milan on Monday, my pink tutu suitcase (yes, I do have a suitcase just for tutus - you wouldn't believe how much it gets around!) in tow. The crisp December air felt invigorating after the warmth of my little Derbyshire home, and I could already feel the city's energy buzzing beneath the beautiful cobbled streets.
First on the agenda? A trip to the fabulous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This stunning shopping arcade, with its beautiful glass ceiling and opulent shops, is a sight to behold. Imagine a Victorian Christmas card come to life, filled with shoppers, musicians, and the scent of roasted chestnuts and freshly brewed coffee.
Speaking of coffee, I stumbled upon the cutest little café called "Caffè degli Angeli" just off Piazza Cordusio. I treated myself to a latte, served with the most charming smile, and a slice of panettone – my favourite festive treat. I was seated next to a table of young fashion designers, and I swear, I felt like I was stepping into one of those "Project Runway" shows! There was so much creativity swirling around me, so much inspiration... and so much pink!
Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without some shopping! The streets of the Quadrilatero della Moda are a fashionista's dream! It's practically a catwalk. From Dolce & Gabbana to Prada, Valentino to Versace, every storefront boasts an intoxicating array of textures and colours. Let me tell you, the shoe section of those stores alone is worth a whole day trip! And don't even get me started on the handbags!
However, as much as I love a bit of retail therapy, my heart really belongs to the ballet. This Wednesday, I was thrilled to attend the opening night of the Teatro alla Scala's production of "The Nutcracker". Imagine the most exquisite sets, shimmering costumes, and the most incredible choreography! The story unfolded under the glow of hundreds of twinkling fairy lights, transporting me straight into a world of Christmas magic.
One of the things that I adore about the "Nutcracker" is that it is such a wonderfully festive ballet! It is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season, and there's something truly magical about seeing families together, dressed in their finest, sharing in the magic of this story.
The choreography was superb. There were graceful arabesques, daring leaps, and beautifully executed pirouettes. Every moment felt like an explosion of movement and joy. And don't even get me started on the little Sugar Plum Fairy. Her dancing was just breathtaking. I even found myself wanting to slip out of my seat and twirl across the stage right along with her!
Speaking of twirling, I, of course, took a ballet class earlier in the week, right here in the heart of Milan. Imagine it – me in my pink tutu, a perfect contrast against the black and white marbled floor of the studio. The atmosphere was full of energy, with the instructor encouraging each student to find their inner dancer. It was truly a beautiful way to start the day, stretching my body and my mind.
It is simply amazing that you can walk down the street here, past exquisite catwalks, into a beautiful café or through a gorgeous arcade, and then end up at a stunning ballet studio ready to learn and inspire! I don’t know why anyone would live anywhere else!
Milan, with its elegant sophistication and captivating energy, is a city I could get truly lost in. I just hope that my little pink tutu journey can bring some of that Milanese magic back home with me!
