Oh, Milano! You’ve stolen my heart! This city pulsates with style, glamour, and a love for all things beautiful. And for me, there's nothing more beautiful than twirling in my pink tutu amidst the cobbled streets and chic boutiques.
This week has been a whirlwind of ballet, shopping, and exploring every corner of this vibrant city. And let me tell you, it's been a pink-tastic adventure!
Trams and Tutus: My Milanese Mode of Transport
Let's start with the trams. Yes, I'm a big fan of hopping on the public transport in any city, and Milan's tram network is a delight! The trams are clean, modern, and incredibly efficient – and for a little ballerina like me, it’s the perfect opportunity to practice some discreet pliés while zipping through the streets. I even had a couple of fellow passengers smile at my pink tutu peeking out from my handbag - Milan has such an inclusive atmosphere!
Milan’s Theatres: A Ballet Lover's Paradise
But the real star of the show has to be Milan's theatre scene! It's an absolute ballet-lover's paradise, with its stunning historical theatres and the incredible performances happening each night.
This week, I was lucky enough to see “The Nutcracker” at the Teatro alla Scala. I swear, my heart could have burst with joy! The grandeur of the theatre, the beautiful costumes, the exquisite choreography - it was breathtaking! I couldn’t help but sway in my seat and even tap my toes with excitement. The sheer energy of the performance is still tingling through my limbs – talk about a magical night!
And of course, I couldn't leave Milan without a visit to the Teatro Dal Verme. I loved its elegant charm and its history. As I stepped inside, I felt like I was transported back in time - what a joy! I’m definitely going to try and catch a ballet show there on my next visit.
Ballet School Inspiration
It's not all about grand theatre performances, you know! Milan also boasts an incredible ballet school scene. I took a class at the renowned Centro Studi Danza, and it was invigorating! The atmosphere was electric, filled with the focused energy of passionate dancers. The teachers were warm, encouraging, and knowledgeable. Even after years of training, they were able to push my skills further, teaching me new techniques and inspiring me to strive for new heights in my ballet journey.
Pink Paradise Shopping:
Now, you can't visit Milan without indulging in a little shopping, right? It’s no secret that Milan is a fashion haven, a haven that loves pink just as much as I do! My travels would be incomplete without exploring the endless boutiques and vintage stores lining Milan’s streets. I found myself picking up a beautiful silk pink scarf from a tiny boutique hidden away in a quiet cobblestone lane. Of course, I found the most delightful tutu at a vintage store near Piazza Duomo - it’s just begging to be spun in, so expect some fun photographs soon!
Foodie Finds in Milan
After all that shopping, a hungry ballerina needs fuel, and let me tell you, Milan has some of the most exquisite food I’ve ever encountered!
My favourite experience was definitely indulging in the delicate flavors of Milanese risotto with saffron and a perfectly pan-fried sea bass. Every bite was a celebration of deliciousness, and the perfect complement to a night of ballet! But, if you’re looking for something a little less formal, try grabbing a quick but delicious aperitivo from a bar - the bustling social atmosphere is delightful!
Milan in December: Magical Moments
December in Milan is pure magic! The city sparkles with Christmas lights, charmingly adorned trees stand proud in every piazza, and the scent of roasted chestnuts fills the air.
A favourite memory from my time here was walking through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on a crisp winter evening. It felt like stepping into a festive wonderland! And just to top it all off, there was a magnificent Christmas tree bathed in soft lighting in the center of the piazza! Oh, the twinkle! It was absolutely enchanting!

I’m back in Derbyshire now, but the magic of Milan will linger in my heart for ages to come. The city’s vibrant energy and stylish charm are infectious! If you haven't yet been, you absolutely have to add it to your travel list.
