Oh darling, you won't believe the whirlwind I've been swept up in! New York City, oh New York City! It truly lives up to its name as the city that never sleeps.
I'm back with another post from my fabulous NYC adventure, and trust me, the tutu is going to make a real splash in this concrete jungle. It's been a dazzling week, brimming with all things fabulous - dancing, shopping, and more performances than I can even shake a (pink) tutu at!
But first, a quick chat about this magnificent Monday morning. The city has a special vibe to it today, something electrifying in the air. Perhaps it's the anticipation for tonight's "American Ballet Theatre" show at the Metropolitan Opera House. They're performing "Giselle," and you know I couldn't miss it for the world! I've got my lucky pink tutu all ready to go. This season they've really outdone themselves with their new pink tulle, a beautiful mix of silk and cotton - truly heavenly.
Now, back to last week! You see, after the "Sleeping Beauty" extravaganza at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, I had to get my dancing shoes on at Broadway Dance Center. Their Wednesday "Open Level Ballet" class was simply delightful! Such a fantastic group of people, and the teacher - a whirlwind of energy - really inspired me. There were even some dancers in gorgeous tutus, their tulle flowing gracefully with every step! My tutus might be the 'pinkest', but the colours in that class were stunning, like a beautiful rainbow of creativity.
Thursday was an adventure! After an hour of intense shopping at Bloomingdale's, where I discovered a new line of shoes (naturally in pink!), I spent the evening at the "New York City Ballet" at David H. Koch Theater for a captivating performance of "The Nutcracker". It was truly a Christmas in March feeling. Did you know the 'Nutcracker' has become something of a yearly tradition? It's all about that magical feeling, even in the springtime.
Friday evening, the glitter and sparkle of "Moulin Rouge" took me right back to the Paris streets. Such energy, colour and a joy for life. They have some fabulous costumes in that show. The energy, the glamour, the romance - oh it truly did take me back to Paris! Of course, the dance scenes in "Moulin Rouge" were sensational.
Now, how could a girl possibly come to New York City and not visit the iconic "Central Park"? On Saturday, I enjoyed a glorious walk amidst the cherry blossoms. There were more pink hues than I can count! I've gotta tell you, the flowers really do create the most magical setting.
It wasn't all just about glamour, though! I do believe that travelling should always involve exploring. On Sunday, I enjoyed a walk through the "Tenement Museum." This wonderful little museum allowed me to travel back in time and step inside the life of those who immigrated to this exciting city over 100 years ago.
This week in New York City has been a wonderful mix of fun and excitement. It's filled with beauty, culture, dance, and just the right amount of shopping (Iām always up for a little retail therapy!). I can't wait to see what the rest of my adventures hold, but in the meantime, hereās whatās next!
Today, I'll be indulging in some yummy brunch in the East Village, a delightful spot that is full of character and vintage shops. Itās all about those eclectic shops filled with quirky finds that always remind me of the true charm of New York City.
And then tonight, we've got the ballet performance. I've booked myself a seat in the front row and will be joining in on the dance, in spirit at least! Thereās a touch of magic to these New York City performances - just the feeling of being in the thick of things. There is always a lot of excitement leading up to each performance!
For the week, I am heading down to the Lower East Side for the evening and the new performance at the āCherry Lane Theatreā of āThe Great Gatsby". This is truly exciting and will certainly be another wonderful, sparkling New York experience. Itās something I canāt wait to write about in next week's post.
Speaking of sparkling, Iāve been having such fun discovering some truly magnificent vintage clothing shops. One of my favorites, āThe Velvet Undergroundā, tucked away on a charming side street, had an exquisite selection of vintage hats - perfect for adding a dash of sparkle to any look. Oh darling, I just adore that timeless, vintage feel - the touch of history, of past moments and styles beautifully interwoven.
Donāt you agree? There's something rather wonderful about finding unique pieces with a little bit of history to them. They say that style never goes out of fashion!
To top off the fun, I had the chance to chat with one of the designers who will be showcasing his collection in the "Fashion Week" parade. He has been working on his spring line and was happy to give me some insights! The latest collection incorporates some magnificent shades of pink, and Iām eagerly looking forward to all the fantastic tutu styles heāll be introducing for this new collection!
One last piece of advice before I go! When in New York, take full advantage of the metro. I've been exploring the city's intricate network of underground tunnels, finding myself in new places each day, experiencing its beating heart - this amazing, pulsating, city that is never, ever quiet. The metro's like my little ballet dance - you get in, it sweeps you around, and itās all about enjoying the ride!
Oh, I forgot to mention! It was also so much fun to bump into some of the āNew York Fashion Weekā models! They have such vibrant energy, just as contagious as the cityās buzz. Thereās just something about New York, you see - it inspires you, it ignites the passion inside, and, in the true spirit of New York, weāre all in it together, always on the go!
Darling, I'll keep you posted on everything - every pink tulle, every fashionable adventure. Keep dancing and don't forget, you can too be a ballerina in a pink tutu. Be bold! Be brilliant! And until next week...
Lots of love,
Emma xx
