Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the magical metropolis of New York City. This week has been particularly special as I celebrated not only my own birthday but also the joy of dance, theatre, and, of course, pink! Oh, and a delightful new addition to my wardrobe.
This past Monday, as the Big Apple awoke from its slumber, I donned my newest pink tutu – a confection of tulle and sparkle that even a unicorn would envy! It was the perfect choice to celebrate my birthday. To be honest, every day is a good day to wear a pink tutu, but this one was extra special. After a leisurely morning exploring Central Park in my fabulous getup – a pink tutu naturally! – and indulging in a truly delightful, pink-frosted cupcake, I ventured into the bustling heart of the city.
New York always has an air of electricity about it, especially on my birthday. I couldn’t wait to explore its hidden gems and let the magic of the city inspire me. But before my day of adventure commenced, it was time for my morning routine, something that never fails to set the tone for the day ahead.
Morning Rituals: A Balancing ActEven in a place like New York City, a girl's got to start her day the right way. For me, that means a healthy breakfast of yoghurt with pink berries – strawberries, raspberries, you name it! Then comes the quintessential part of my routine: a morning ballet class in my beloved pink tutu, of course. It’s a way of feeling grounded even amidst the city’s frantic pace.
The ballet studio in Greenwich Village has become my haven – a small, cosy space filled with the sound of music and the grace of fellow dancers. The instructor is a lovely lady called Olivia, and she’s got a way of bringing out the best in each and every one of us. As I moved through the barre and across the studio, my heart sang. There’s nothing quite like the joy of expressing yourself through movement and dancing – and doing it all while wearing a beautiful, bright pink tutu. It's just pure joy!
A Celebration of Art: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Shakespeare Theatre CompanyAfter my morning workout and a light lunch – a quinoa salad with a touch of pink peppercorns, obviously! – I made my way to the Shakespeare Theatre Company for a delightful production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". You see, New York is the perfect place for the theatre-loving soul in me to flourish!
This particular production was a real treat, blending Shakespearean classic with modern flair. I loved the costume design, which featured a lot of lace, tulle, and, of course, a few flashes of pink – and even though the actual play had nothing to do with tutus, it was a nice little nod in the right direction! It's amazing how much I can appreciate a good Shakespeare play in a magnificent pink tutu, even if I am slightly obsessed with tutus and the colour pink.
Pink in the City: Shopping Adventures and Tutu GlamourFollowing the show, it was time for a bit of retail therapy! You see, you just can’t spend time in the City that Never Sleeps without a good dose of shopping – it's basically in my DNA. It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Blog NYC post if I didn't bring you a taste of the fantastic fashion the city offers.
The first stop was the charming vintage boutique on Bleecker Street – my all-time favourite. You never know what amazing treasures you'll unearth there! The owners, a delightful duo called Lucy and Max, have an incredible eye for detail, and the store always feels like stepping into a vintage fashion dream. This time, I stumbled upon a truly spectacular find – a silk scarf, hand-painted with cherry blossom flowers in delicate shades of pink. It's a gorgeous piece, the perfect statement to accompany a pink tutu ensemble.
Then it was off to a nearby department store – a mecca for all things fashionable, even pink! This trip was particularly memorable because I scored the most beautiful silk scarf adorned with ballerina-themed patterns.
Needless to say, it was a triumph – a shopping spree worthy of any self-respecting pink tutu devotee!
Evening Delights: Dinner and a ViewAs evening descended upon the city, I found myself savouring the stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. A pink cocktail in hand, the Empire State Building gleamed in the distance. The lights twinkled, a mesmerizing spectacle for the senses. I had discovered a hidden gem, a rooftop restaurant with incredible food, a breathtaking view, and – get this – a live string quartet playing soft melodies.
I have to say, it was truly romantic and so New York. But let’s be honest – how could anything not be romantic with the added touch of a pink tutu? It added just the right touch of whimsy, and I’m convinced it got me the most delightful table! I mean, who could resist the charm of a ballerina in pink swirling into a fancy eatery?
The night concluded with a jazz concert in the vibrant Greenwich Village – a sensory experience that left me feeling energised and full of artistic inspiration.
A New York Day to Remember: Tutu Magic in the Big Apple! This whirlwind week in New York City was filled with joy, artistic inspiration, and enough pink to make even the most colour-shy individual envious. The city was alive, pulsing with the energy of millions of people living, loving, and, yes, dancing! From my birthday celebration in Central Park, to the ballet class that nourishes my soul, and the captivating performances of the theatre and the concert, it was a magical adventure.
I’ve returned to my cosy apartment with my head full of new ideas for my future posts on Pink-Tutu.com. Each week is an opportunity to share my passion for fashion, dance, and travel, all while spreading a message of positivity, confidence, and a sprinkle of pink magic. And hey, who knows – perhaps I'll even inspire a few of you to put on a pink tutu and twirl around!
Stay tuned for my next adventure as we dive into the world of vintage fashion finds, local boutiques, and the ever-evolving art scene of New York City. Because even though my home is in the quaint countryside of Derbyshire, England, my heart will always be in the dazzling city of New York!
Until next time, remember: wear your tutu with pride, stay sparkling, and never stop dreaming!
Lots of love, Emma xx
