Hello, my lovely tutu-loving darlings! It's Monday morning and I'm writing this post straight from the heart of New York City, with the hum of the subway beneath me and the clinking of street performers playing tunes right outside my hotel window.
The past week has been pure magic! I've been whirling around the Big Apple in my favourite pink tutu (it’s the one with the tulle so sparkly it could rival Times Square!), embracing the energy of this incredible city, and yes, of course, soaking up all the wonderful things New York has to offer a ballet-loving, fashion-obsessed girl like me!
It's been quite the whirlwind, actually! So let me take you on a journey through the pinkest, most tutu-tastic week ever. Buckle up, my darlings!
From the English countryside to the bustling metropolis, with my trusty tutu by my side:
Leaving behind the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan, was quite the shock to the system! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love visiting my family and spending time in the beautiful English countryside. It always provides a great grounding and is my go-to place for getting creative inspiration. But sometimes you just need a dose of that New York City magic, you know?
This week, I’m showcasing my talent and passions for ballet by performing with the lovely New York Ballet in their spring season. This is the part of my job that I absolutely adore. Traveling the world, sharing my love of dance, and captivating audiences with graceful leaps and flowing twirls, well, what could be more magical than that?
Subway hopping and ballet hopping… it's all just so wonderfully NYC!
There’s no better way to truly experience New York City than by hopping on the metro. You see all sorts of interesting characters and quirky scenes; it’s a human tapestry woven through the very arteries of the city! There’s the elegant businessman in his tailored suit with his morning coffee, the stylish couple on their way to a Broadway show, and the excited group of school kids off on an adventure. Every time I step onto a train, it’s like being in a short film that you just can't stop watching. And the best part? Even in the hustle and bustle, there's a rhythm to the city. You can feel it as you’re navigating the streets. And what’s more magical than watching dancers gracefully navigating the concrete jungle too, right? I can't even express how thrilling it is to perform ballet under the neon-lit arches of the city!
A ballerina's diary: a peek into my wardrobe and adventures
This week's fashion diary is all about vibrant colors and sparkling textures. It's New York, darlings, and that means putting on my most daring outfits. I've been rocking a classic black leather biker jacket paired with my new pink tutu and high-top sneakers for an effortlessly cool, yet totally glamorous, look. A dash of red lipstick, some chunky statement jewelry, and my signature tutu is the finishing touch to complete this modern, street-smart, but always-ballerina-chic vibe. I even made it a little more NYC-inspired by adding a sassy baseball cap and some bright pink sunglasses, which I definitely recommend when stepping off the subway at rush hour – the sun’s reflections on all those skyscrapers are almost too bright!
And speaking of fashion, New York has always been the holy grail for any fashion enthusiast like myself! You know what that means… it's time to go shopping! 🛍️
I love nothing more than getting lost in the labyrinth of New York City's stores, exploring its hidden fashion gems and discovering new pieces to add to my collection. You won't catch me leaving a store empty-handed – I simply cannot resist!
From the vintage boutiques of SoHo to the high-end designers of Fifth Avenue, it’s truly a sensory overload for a fashion lover! I especially adore stumbling across independent designers in Greenwich Village. Their passion, creativity, and quirky pieces are what makes NYC’s fashion scene so special!
This week’s highlight: a divine tutu shop I found tucked away in Brooklyn! This shop was overflowing with colours and fabrics. Imagine my delight when I saw a dazzling rainbow of tutus - it was like a dream! They even had an entire wall dedicated to pink, of course! And my favourite part was that each tutu was handmade, crafted with such meticulous care. It felt truly special. You know I left with a few new tutu treasures to add to my collection - pink, of course! 💖
This Week’s Big Ballet Event:
Of course, I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to see a stunning ballet performance here! This weekend was particularly special, as I saw [Name of Ballet show] at the Lincoln Center. You'll never believe what they're doing: it's [describe the show: plot, style, themes], and you can truly feel the dedication of every performer! It was a visually stunning performance with a message that'll stay with me for weeks. Let's just say there were definitely some tutu-worthy moves in this show, so prepare to be blown away!
Finding inspiration around every corner
It's truly amazing how the energy of New York can inspire you to create! Just being in this city, surrounded by so many talented artists, entrepreneurs, and people who are chasing their dreams, has brought new fire to my soul and given me inspiration for some truly breathtaking new pieces in my wardrobe, including this month’s Pink Tutu Box (you haven't seen what’s inside yet! But I can tell you, it’s seriously chic – think classic with a bold edge!).
I’ve been taking a little time to explore off the beaten path in New York City too – there's so much more to the city than just the iconic skyline, which we all love! From discovering beautiful rooftop gardens in the heart of Manhattan to delving into the eclectic vibes of Bushwick and Williamsburg, my days here have been filled with endless new experiences.
Living the Tutu Dream: Sharing my Passion
And let me tell you, my goal to get everyone wearing a pink tutu? It's growing by the minute! While I haven’t convinced everyone in New York yet to don a pink tutu, there are definitely a growing number of ladies strutting their stuff with the vibrant confidence only a tutu can give you!
You’d be surprised how a simple pink tutu can be the conversation starter you never expected! This past week I had a chance to lead a workshop in a school in the Bronx, sharing my passion for dance and the joy of tutus with some amazing, budding ballerinas. It was truly rewarding to see them not only learn ballet techniques but embrace the creativity and confidence a pink tutu brings! It was a great reminder why I do what I do – to inspire and empower, all while bringing a little bit of magic into the world, one pink tutu at a time.
