Hello, darlings! Emma here, your pink tutu-clad correspondent, back from a whirlwind week in the Big Apple, and oh my goodness, what a week it's been!
As always, New York City greeted me with open arms and even more open shops! I literally couldn't resist the call of Fifth Avenue. Even with the sweltering June heat, a trusty pink tulle tutu always brings a touch of cool glamour, even amongst the concrete and crowds. And what's better than dancing my way through the city with the most delightful tutu on my hips, you ask? Absolutely nothing!
But let's get to the highlights, shall we? You'll be needing a pot of tea for this one, it's a long and fabulous journey, much like my time spent in New York. Grab your favourite china cup, settle in, and prepare to be swept away!
Ballet Bootcamp at Steps on Broadway
This week was all about dancing, darling! My Tuesday started with a gruelling yet invigorating ballet class at Steps on Broadway. I was lucky to find myself in the hands of a renowned ballerina, the oh-so-inspiring Ms. Deirdre, whose tutelage, though strict, was simply divine! I can honestly say my leaps were leaps higher and my pirouettes positively spun me around faster than a carousel horse. The energy in the room was palpable, and I knew that, in that space, dreams were being nurtured and nurtured, much like a rosebud blossoming in spring.
A Whirlwind of Fashion
After the ballet class, I decided to treat myself to a spot of afternoon tea and shopping. I just couldn't resist a stop at Bergdorf Goodman for a little sartorial indulgence. You see, when you’re a pink tutu advocate like me, you can never resist a touch of frills! I found the most beautiful dusky pink dress, so light and airy, it floated like a cloud! And wouldn’t you know it, I had a bit of a tulle tutu spree at the fabulous Henri Bendel – they had so many choices in delightful pastel shades.
An Evening at the Ballet
I then, of course, had to attend a show! On Wednesday evening, I took my seat at the majestic Metropolitan Opera House for a performance of Swan Lake, starring the exquisite Miss Elara Pavlov. It was truly a spectacular sight to behold, with her fluid grace and breathtaking pirouettes, and of course, my favourite ballerina, in her stunning white tutu. This, of course, sparked the beginning of my newest blog post idea; ‘Swan Lake’, but in pink tutu, and I think I might try and incorporate this at the next gala I perform in!
Exploring The Met with My Fellow Tutu-Wearers
On Thursday, I woke up feeling invigorated and ready to explore the vast Metropolitan Museum of Art. And wouldn't you know it, as I waltzed through the galleries with a ballet-inspired gait (because, really, what’s better than strolling through art history in a blush pink tutu?!), I bumped into the most lovely ladies, clad in equally adorable tutus! It felt like we were part of a secret ballet club, spreading the love for the dance and, most importantly, celebrating the colour pink! They shared their tips on hidden gems within the museum and we all posed for photos. We even giggled together, a little tutu dance party in front of a particularly vibrant Impressionist piece!
Friday Night Broadway Brilliance
For Friday night, I decided to catch a show on Broadway. A little early for me to see a play with a big dance number so I went to a ‘feel good’ performance called ‘Wicked’, which did have a delightful flying scene, and I must say, it left me completely entranced! You’d be hard pressed to find a place on earth with as many bright and beautiful costumes! It definitely inspired some ideas for my own wardrobe, darling. And speaking of wardrobe, let's talk about my dazzling pink tutu that twirled flawlessly with the actors' steps on the stage.
Discovering the Heart of the City
I spent a great deal of Saturday strolling through Central Park, a haven for urban dwellers, taking in the sights and sounds of nature. I must admit, even though I do not adore the parks, I took photos amongst the flowers and trees. The vibrancy and energy of the city were amplified amidst the calming greens, creating an exhilarating blend of urban grit and natural beauty. It was pure perfection, much like a perfectly executed fouetté.
Sunday Funday: Exploring the Metro
For my last full day in the city, I had a mission! To explore the iconic NYC subway system! It may sound boring but my little tutu travelled around the Big Apple on Sunday, and as the local train rattled through the tunnel, I couldn't help but imagine myself dancing down the platform, my tulle cascading around me. I really should record it; it would be amazing for YouTube. It felt as if the very rails vibrated with the spirit of New York City, pulsating with energy and life. The bustling throngs of people made for a dazzling human performance. And of course, you know me, it's always a perfect time to spread the love of pink!
I've got to admit, nothing gets me excited quite like the rhythmic whooshing of a train approaching a station – it’s like a thrilling ballet movement! After taking several snaps of myself (and a couple of cheeky self-portraits in the mirrors), it was time to indulge in some good old-fashioned American comfort food: pizza, pasta, and maybe a hot dog or two. It felt wonderful to have lived like a local for a few hours and truly felt like a New Yorker, at least for that evening.
From Broadway Lights to a Boutique Hotel Charm
I stayed at The Carlyle, which had such charming rooms. I always make an effort to pick a hotel that is central for all my sightseeing, and The Carlyle never disappoints. And the little coffee shop by the lobby had a selection of pastel pinks in its interior décor – what luck, darling! It is my new favourite! They do serve wonderful petit fours and I enjoyed an entire plate whilst enjoying a leisurely, post-dinner coffee!
Packing My Bag & Planning my Next Adventure
As I write this from my last morning at the Carlyle, I find myself longing for the city. Oh, New York, how I do love thee. There are still so many incredible things to experience and dance through, which means, my dears, this is far from goodbye! I have to return as soon as possible! I must say, the New York Metro experience, complete with a tutu-clad commute, was simply perfect.
Keep those tutus spinning and spreading that pink joy, my loves. And be sure to stay tuned for more enchanting escapades, from yours truly, Emma.
