Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballet Lover's Dream Come True! (Post #1613)

Hello my dearest tutu-loving darlings! 🩰

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a fresh dose of pink, frills, and fabulousness from your favourite ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma!

This week, I'm whisking you away to the charming city of Prague! 🇨🇿 As always, I’m travelling in style – a beautiful, sunshine-yellow train journey straight from Derbyshire. It’s an old-fashioned train carriage with those plush velvet seats that make you feel like a proper vintage lady. I mean, who wouldn’t be transported by the sheer elegance of a carriage where the cushions have seen so many decades of ballet stories unfold? And don’t even get me started on the window views! Rolling through the countryside in such grandeur made me feel like I was in a romantic movie, but without the forced love story that normally comes with it. 😜

Of course, my travel wardrobe had to be nothing less than breathtakingly beautiful! I wore a billowing, lavender silk dress with delicate lace detailing – the perfect blend of femininity and bohemian elegance. A shimmering, rose-gold choker and a clutch the colour of blush pink added just the right amount of sparkly sophistication. Oh, and let’s not forget the pièce de résistance – a flowing pink tulle skirt – because every journey deserves a little bit of magic, darling!

Prague is such a vibrant city with history bursting at the seams! I felt instantly smitten as soon as I arrived. And I just know this trip will be an absolute delight, a perfect mix of balletic wonder, architectural elegance, and oh-so-much-shopping. Speaking of shopping, Prague has got some serious vintage charm! I found the most adorable antique shop stuffed with relics from centuries gone by – the perfect place for finding unusual and inspiring vintage pieces to accessorize my future outfits!

Ballet in Prague

But you all know me. Ballet is the core of my heart. So it was straight to the National Theatre after settling in. The grand facade, the ornate details – pure, unadulterated fairytale vibes. I’m quite convinced I took at least 200 photos of it. Who can blame me?!

The show that evening was truly special. It was Romeo and Juliet, with a contemporary twist on the classic tale, incorporating a modern-day urban setting. The choreography was mesmerising, the dancers graceful and captivating. And that tutu! Oh my, the costume designer really outdid themselves. I’m talking flowing, billowing layers of light pink, the kind of dream tutu that brings a tear to the eye. It was simply exquisite.

A Little Bit of Tutu History

Did you know that tutus have been around since the 18th century? Imagine this: in the mid-1800s, a beautiful Parisian ballerina named Marie Taglioni wore a single layer of delicate, soft, white gauze, defying the restrictive long, layered skirts of the day. The first tutu as we know it! The rest is ballet history!

It’s amazing how a garment, such as the tutu, can evoke such a kaleidoscope of emotions – from awe to inspiration, even a little bit of envy. And just look at them! They are so graceful, so magical – a reminder that even something as small as a skirt can be so powerful.

Exploring the Streets

The next day was all about soaking up the Prague energy. I decided to explore the Old Town - that charming district where fairy tale meets modern charm. I strolled through the Old Town Square, mesmerized by the iconic Astronomical Clock, which, as they say, "doesn't tell the truth but always points to beauty". And then there were those medieval buildings! Imagine walking past cobblestone streets lined with pastel-colored buildings, all topped with breathtaking towers. It was simply a joy to wander through, letting the enchanting aura of history wash over me.

I even got myself a little present - a miniature ballerina figurine in a beautiful pink tutu, from a quaint shop tucked away on a cobblestoned side street. It’s already taking pride of place on my dressing table back in Derbyshire.

Prague, as they say, “doesn't sleep,” and the nighttime life certainly reflects that. As darkness descends, the city is bathed in a magical, flickering glow. That night, I joined a charmingly dressed troupe of performers (with more tutus, obviously!), for a truly enchanting evening at the Black Light Theatre. The artistic skill, the blend of comedy and acrobatics, and the unique play of light and shadow - simply brilliant. And don’t even get me started on the costumes. The Black Light Theatre definitely delivers on that wow factor.

A Pink Tutu Masterclass

For my next ballet adventure, I ventured to a local ballet studio in the heart of Prague. You guys, this class was SO much fun! It was like being thrown back to the days when ballet first started pulling at my heartstrings. And guess what? Everyone, yes, everyone, was wearing a pink tutu. I mean, I always bring one with me on these journeys – because where I go, my signature style goes. But, it was simply delightful to see such enthusiastic and passionate people in that iconic ballet garment! I almost wanted to take up residence in the studio.

Dress the Part!

While I’m in Prague, there's one thing I absolutely can't resist: a little fashion spree! So, naturally, I headed straight to a vintage shop filled to the brim with breathtaking treasures. Imagine racks bursting with beautiful fabrics – delicate laces, soft velvets, shimmering silks. And then the shoes! Oh, my! Vintage ballet slippers in delicate shades of pastel pink and elegant grey. My little ballerinas would love to play in them.

And it would be criminal of me to miss out on a spot of modern-day fashion too. After all, the perfect ballerina dress needs to work in any century, don’t you think? I found a dress that was the epitome of elegance and Parisian flair, complete with a dainty white collar, beautiful ivory lace and - of course! - a generous amount of beautiful pink tulle to match my vintage finds.

The Art of Shopping in Prague

I have a very special theory: you should always leave a city knowing a secret gem, an extraordinary place where you can be surprised by a beautiful find, or where the air smells of beautiful things, and you will want to come back and be surprised again. This applies to clothes too. So when I see a shop window brimming with lovely things I know I must venture in and let myself be inspired!

Pink Tutu Dream Come True!

On a special note, you can already tell, this Prague adventure has already exceeded my expectations. The city truly lives up to its enchanting reputation – beautiful buildings, delicious food, and an abundance of sparkly things. Every corner of Prague seems to pulse with history, creativity and an infectious sense of fun. It's truly been a dream come true!

And, darling, if you ever visit Prague, make sure to check out the show I’ve told you about – Romeo and Juliet at the National Theatre – they have a show on May 6th which just happens to be tomorrow. Who’s excited with me?! I’ll be front row, in my prettiest pink tulle.

Stay tuned for more Parisian adventures in my next post, and remember - keep the world twirling!

Yours always, Emma
