Buongiorno, darling! This week’s Pink Tutu adventures are bursting with colour and excitement, as we’ve swapped the rolling green hills of Derbyshire for the vibrant, sun-kissed streets of Rome! Oh, the gelato! The laughter! The incredible fashion!
As usual, I reached Rome via the elegant swoosh of a sleek, high-speed train – a journey filled with anticipation for all the sights, smells and, of course, tutus I was going to discover.
It seems Rome is particularly tutu-friendly, my darlings! I’ve already spotted more tutus here than in any other city I’ve been to (and I’ve seen a few, let me tell you). This may be purely a product of my ever-observant, tutu-loving eyes, but I swear, there’s a touch of tutu magic in the air here. Maybe it’s the way the sunshine dances off the marble of the Trevi Fountain, or perhaps it’s the spirited joy of the street performers, but I felt a real urge to twirl from the moment my train pulled into the station!
A Morning with Michelangelo
The first stop on my Italian adventure was the magnificent Vatican Museum. As you can imagine, I couldn't resist whipping out my own miniature tutu (which I'd conveniently packed in my travel-sized pink toiletry bag - so practical!) and doing a little twirl in front of Michelangelo’s "Last Judgement." I mean, who could resist? The dramatic, sweeping gestures of the angels and the sheer power of the scene… it practically begged for a ballet-inspired pose. Thankfully, I got away with it (although I do think one or two cardinals raised an eyebrow).
The museum is a dazzling display of Renaissance art, but the sheer scale and detail of everything was, dare I say it, overwhelming. After a delightful hour or two spent exploring, I retreated to the nearby Pincian Gardens, the green heart of the city. This oasis of tranquility, nestled beside the bustling streets, offered the perfect respite for a cup of Italian coffee (strong enough to power a tutu-wearing ballerina through a double-pirouette!) and a little moment of peace.
A Tutus and Tapas Evening
Tonight, I'm heading for an evening of ballet and delectable tapas! I’ve managed to find a beautiful outdoor performance of La Bayadère in a stunning Roman courtyard, the kind that feels like stepping straight into a Renaissance painting. Just picture this: twinkling lights, jasmine-scented air, and me in a breathtaking blush-pink tutu – divine! (I think the pink matches the shade of the rose gardens flanking the courtyard – it's all very romantic).
I’ll be tucking into delectable tapas with some of my favourite Italian ballet dancers before the show. They tell me it's the most perfect combination in Rome – delicious food, amazing dancers, and breathtaking atmosphere! (Honestly, these dancers know their tutus!)
Roman Shopping Adventures
Of course, I couldn’t be in the heart of Rome without immersing myself in the city’s incredible fashion scene! You guys, I'm absolutely in heaven here! It's a sartorial wonderland with so many designer boutiques that my eyes could barely contain the excitement! I spent the afternoon scouring vintage stores for a perfect, antique tutu and, to my delight, stumbled upon a charming boutique where the owner was so proud of her selection of tulle and lace – we practically spoke the same language! And to top it all off, I discovered a vintage hat shop with a collection that was fit for a ballerina’s dreams – think feathered fascinators in every colour imaginable.
Sharing My Roman Sparkle with You!
Stay tuned, darlings! Next week’s post will be packed full of ballet inspiration, with a behind-the-scenes peek at the La Bayadère performance. I'll share my top shopping tips for all you fellow fashion-forward dancers and show you how to make your own tulle-tastic statement pieces. It’s all going to be so fabulously pink, it’ll practically make you twirl!
Don’t forget to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com and subscribe to my blog. I'm looking forward to sharing all the Roman fun with you!
Remember, darlings, the only limit to our dreams is the imagination, and the perfect tutu always unlocks a new world of possibilities. And as I twirl my way around this breathtaking city, I’m ready to inspire everyone to step into their own tutu-tastic adventure.
Ciao for now!
Love,
Emma xx
Post-script:- Did you know, there's a gorgeous ballet performance of Swan Lake on Thursday 15th May, just a stone’s throw from where I am. Perhaps I’ll take a twirl around that fountain after? *
