Ciao Bella! It's Wednesday, 16th July, 2025, and yours truly, Emma, is back with another post from the stunning city of Rome! I'm in full-on, pink tutu-tastic mode, because I'm living my dream here - and not just in the metaphorical sense! The whole city has become my stage!
Remember my blog from last week? Where I left you, with the image of me stepping onto the gleaming platform at Stazione Termini, my suitcase bursting with frills and sparkle, and my heart set on experiencing a new Italian adventure? Well, it didn't disappoint!
You guys know my favourite travel buddy - the train! Soaking up the breathtaking scenery and writing in my little journal - a Pink Tutu Rome diary! Seriously, the journey from Derbyshire was such a magical escape. I always find travelling by train gives you such a beautiful glimpse into life. It's so much more personal and romantic. Plus, there's a certain sense of adventure I can't get from airports, you know?
I'm determined to inspire everyone to see the world through pink-tinted glasses, and that means, of course, spreading the joy of the tutu! I know I get a lot of looks in Rome, especially in the charming Trastevere district where I'm staying, but I love that feeling! It's like a spotlight. All eyes are on me and my pink tutu! The smiles I receive, the "Bella!" cries, it makes it all worth it. I'm trying to share my positivity with the world. After all, there's no better way to inspire than by embracing joy and colour!
Rome truly lives up to its reputation for being a visual masterpiece! The iconic sights - Colosseum, Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, oh my goodness, it's just beyond words. Every turn reveals something enchanting, something new to delight your senses. And as much as I adore ballet, this city is giving me all the inspiration for new tutu moves and dance routines! I even took a spin through the heart of Rome, just me, my pink tutu and the Colosseum! I had to, right? What's a ballerina in Rome without a photo op like this? (Cue the camera flashing! The pink fashion scene here is pretty fabulous! I found this amazing little boutique tucked away in a hidden alley, just off the Pantheon, called Rosa Fantasia, and let's just say, I'm living for the soft pastel shades and fluffy, feminine silhouettes! It was a complete treat to get lost in a kaleidoscope of pink delights, and needless to say, my shopping spree left me with some fabulous, Rome-inspired additions to my pink tutu wardrobe. I picked out this divine pink tulle skirt that is totally "Bella Roma," a blush pink silk scarf and a stunning pale pink sequined top - ready for my first ballet show experience in Rome!
This brings me to my next BIG EVENT, because nothing screams "Rome" more than a night at the opera! I got tickets for tonight's show, "La Traviata," at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I couldn't pass up a chance to see a beautiful operatic ballet. I imagine the soaring melodies of Verdi and the stunning choreography, against a backdrop of breathtaking costumes, are going to be absolute magic. I'll definitely let you know how the show goes, and maybe even share some snaps from inside the theatre (hopefully with the iconic chandeliers!).
Rome isn't just about art, culture and history, it's also about delicious food! This is where I get to play up my girlish side - whipped cream on every dessert! Yes! Every day feels like a feast in this city, from sampling fresh, crusty bread from a little baker, right through to decadent gelato in every shade of pink and violet imaginable. I'm totally going for "Rome in my tummy" here!
I’m planning a ballet workshop in a stunning piazza tomorrow, with some locals and fellow dancers! It’s all about connecting with the community - sharing the magic of ballet through laughter and joyful movement! This pink tutu movement has started to gather momentum in Rome! Who knew!
Now, you're probably wondering about the money side of things, how I'm making this whole pink-tutu dream happen? I'm not a superstar ballerina - yet, but I do rely on my performance work. And I've been fortunate to find several performance opportunities since my arrival in Rome. A ballet studio in Trastevere reached out to me! They've been very generous with booking me to dance at charity events and in smaller theatres. The audiences have been amazing - appreciative, kind and incredibly inspiring!
There is an endless supply of inspiration to be found in Rome. This city truly captures the joy and magic of a thousand tales! From the stories whispered in ancient ruins to the laughter echoing through bustling piazzas, every corner feels alive. And to think I'm part of that story - my own Pink Tutu Rome story!
