Hello darlings! Happy New Year! Can you believe itās 2026 already? Iām sitting here in my pink-hued hotel room in Rome, overlooking the majestic Colosseum, and I can hardly believe this magical year has come to an end.
This past week has been a whirlwind of twirling, shopping and pasta-filled feasts! As you all know, Rome has long been on my travel list, and let me tell you, it's exceeded all expectations. I couldnāt wait to explore this city, and this time, I even had my dearest Aunt Betty along for the adventure. Now, Aunt Betty may be more of a cardigan-and-comfortable-shoes kind of gal, but you'd be surprised how easily she took to Rome's vibrant charm. And let's be honest, how could you not?
This trip, I was particularly excited to visit Rome for the holiday season. The festive atmosphere is something special, the city is decorated to the nines, and it seems like there are Christmas markets on every corner. The aroma of hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts is everywhere, and the twinkling lights make everything sparkle.
A Day at the Opera:
Rome has a rich theatrical history, and I was so eager to experience a live performance here. So, naturally, I had to start with the opera. This New Yearās Eve, we found ourselves at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma to witness the glorious āLa Traviataā with an orchestra that filled the theater with beautiful melodies and the most stunningly talented cast. I swear, my jaw was on the floor half the time. We also happened to snag a couple of seats in the āloggione,ā the very top balcony. It was like peering into a historical masterpiece. Talk about the perfect blend of history and art.
Feasts and Fun in the City:
Between performances, we dove headfirst into the delightful chaos of Rome. Aunt Betty couldn't resist sampling the city's delectable gelato, which she swore tasted just like sunshine. Of course, I opted for a scoop of pink strawberry and lavender, a fitting choice for a pink tutu wearer! And no trip to Rome would be complete without a feast of pasta and pizza, which I can assure you were the most amazing Iāve ever had.
Speaking of amazing, the shopping in Rome has been simply sensational! We managed to find our way to a fabulous vintage boutique where I found a truly exquisite pair of red velvet dancing shoes - perfect for my next performance, wouldn't you agree?
Pink Tutu Sightings:
You know I never leave home without my signature pink tutu, and Rome has proved to be the perfect city to wear it. We had the most fun strolling through Piazza Navona, which was full of charming street performers, acrobats, and artists. My pink tutu was certainly a head-turner and got a lot of smiles! Aunt Betty even confessed she felt inspired to purchase a few twirly pink dresses for her wardrobe - talk about a successful mission!
Catching a Train and Traveling in Style:
As you know, dear readers, I'm a big fan of traveling by train. The European train system is so efficient and charming. I feel like it gives me a more intimate view of the countryside and allows me to soak in the scenery as we gently roll by.
My favourite part about train travel is that it feels so Parisian! It makes me want to wear a little black dress, put on some bold red lipstick, and just let the adventure begin. And while Rome has plenty of opportunities for high fashion, I think my favourite moment was stumbling across a sweet little artisan market near the train station. Imagine my delight when I found a selection of antique ballet slippers and vintage ribbons, all in delightful shades of pink, of course. It's going to make my costume collection even more spectacular!
A New Yearās Wish:
I've made a new yearās resolution for 2026. Itās my goal to bring a little more sparkle and a touch of pink into the world. It all starts with spreading the message of the pink tutu! Itās about being free, expressing yourself, and embracing the joy of movement, regardless of age, background, or dance experience. So, my dears, go out and twirl.
Happy New Year, my lovely pink-tutu enthusiasts! I hope your year is filled with as much joy and adventure as mine. And remember, always keep a pink tutu close by, because you never know when you might need it for a little bit of fun.
Love, Emma xx
