Today we're waltzing into the Eternal City - Rome, and I'm positively overflowing with swoonworthy experiences. From ancient wonders to dazzling fashion, Rome has enchanted me, and my pink tutu is twirling with glee!
Getting There & Travel Tips
Let's rewind a bit to the train journey. I adore the magic of travelling by train. It allows me to fully immerse myself in the landscape and soak up the beauty of the world - and I must confess, this time I wore my "Strawberry Shortcake" pink tulle tutu with the most adorable little heart applique that perfectly coordinated with my vintage "Chanel" suitcase. Talk about fashion-forward travel!
This week, I caught the Eurostar from Derbyshire, a little slice of England that I dearly love. You can't beat the excitement of seeing the countryside zip by. A delicious cuppa and a good book in the onboard café is just the ticket, and I always love a good "people-watching" session.
Roman Welcome
Oh, Rome! The air hums with life and history, every street corner an invitation to explore. It was pure bliss stepping out of Termini Station and onto Roman cobblestone, my pink tulle swishing gently around me.
My first Roman impression? It's absolutely buzzing with energy! People are vibrant, animated, and a touch theatrical (in the most fabulous way!), and this city definitely inspires a “Viva la Vita!” kind of feeling.
Fashion Focus: The Quirky Side of Roman Style
One thing you’ll notice quickly: Romans love their style. It's so distinct from England. It’s bolder, brighter, more theatrical - and oh, that fabulous accessorizing! My Instagram feed was absolutely popping with pictures of stylish women rocking some serious Roman chic. We’re talking chic handbags, eye-catching jewellery and perfectly coordinating footwear - I spotted a pair of platform sandals with little glittery angel wings, and I must have them.
Day One: History in Every Corner
The first thing I do in any city is find a lovely café and indulge in a breakfast treat. Today, I savoured the most delicious pastry at a charming cafe with an absolutely divine terrace that overlooks the Pantheon - such an iconic, beautiful sight.
Tip: Don't forget to pop a €2 coin in the fountain of Trevi for good luck. I whispered a wish (more pink tutus, naturally) while I admired the grandeur of this Roman masterpiece.
The Coliseum is another must-see. I’ve seen documentaries and studied it in school but experiencing the Colosseum in real life is truly breathtaking. The energy is electric, it’s impossible not to feel the power of the history woven into the walls of this once-glorious arena.
Afterward, I stumbled upon an absolutely divine market just a hop away. My shopping spirit soared - I found a fantastic handcrafted straw hat adorned with delicate white flowers, which just screams "Roman Summer". It's already been paired with my trusty black velvet beret (perfect for those chillier Roman nights, don’t you think?).
My Favorite Italian Dinner!
As the evening fell upon Rome, my inner ballerina was practically begging me for a paseo, so I strolled down the lively streets, past artisan shops, past couples enjoying gelato, and soaking in the magnetic atmosphere.
I have to tell you about dinner at Pastificio “La Taverna", a small restaurant I found in the Trastevere district. It’s run by the sweetest little Italian family and they treated me like an old friend.
And then there's the food: Mamma mia! It’s a taste sensation. From the creamy, buttery gnocchi to a mouthwatering plate of ricotta and spinach, every bite was a joyous experience. Oh, and let's not forget the perfectly brewed espresso – so smooth and full-bodied.
A Touch of Opera
And, I ended the night with a truly divine treat - an impromptu opera performance in Piazza Navona. I was simply strolling along when a burst of beautiful melodies stopped me in my tracks. My feet naturally moved to the rhythm, a perfect waltzing melody echoing through the historic plaza.
A Pink Tutu Reflection
Rome has awakened all my senses. It’s vibrant, it's magical, it's incredibly chic. It's definitely a place for dreamers, lovers, and romantics alike, and let me tell you, my pink tulle is twirling with glee. Every corner here is an opportunity for a breathtaking experience - you can just feel that magical spirit in the air. I think this city may have just captured a piece of my heart (though, nothing can replace my Derbyshire!).
