Hey gorgeous darlings! Emma here, signing in live from sunny Scarborough, Yorkshire! Just as the autumn leaves are turning golden, I've swapped the Peak District hills for the dramatic North Sea cliffs, and I can't get over how stunning it all is.
But let me tell you, getting here was an adventure in itself. My darling, sweet hubby (who also happens to be the most patient man alive, don't you agree?) surprised me with a weekend getaway on the scenic Yorkshire Coast line. You know, weâve all heard of a "romantic getaway," but I never thought of arriving by horse and carriage!
The most enchanting thing, really. We boarded the carriage right outside our cottage in Derbyshire - yes, our gorgeous cottage! (Picture ivy-covered walls, roaring fireplace, and oh-so-fluffy sheepdogs, you get the picture). Then, off we went through the countryside, a parade of stunning autumn colours with the scent of wood smoke in the air. It was like something out of a fairytale - I had to pinch myself to make sure it wasnât all a dream.
The train journey itself was pretty special too. A glorious, old-fashioned steam train, choo choo chooing along through charming little villages, fields of sheep, and⌠of course⌠breathtaking views. Iâve been toying with the idea of learning to ride - you know, a ballet dancer on horseback, imagine the possibilities! And I definitely wouldnât mind sporting a pink tutu while doing it! Imagine the Insta photos, hun! (And the headlines: âTutu-wearing Dancer Conqueres The Countryside!**â)
Reaching Scarborough, the town itself was even more stunning. This town is truly enchanting! Cobbled streets, a majestic castle perched atop the cliff, charming cafes, quirky little shops with fabulous window displays⌠oh, and the most gorgeous sunsets youâve ever seen. And of course, the dramatic coastline and the roaring waves crashing on the shore. This really is the perfect place for a tutu twirl.
Speaking of twirls, let's talk about this red tutu. It's definitely not the shade I usually favour (pink, obviously!), but the minute I saw it in my favourite ballet shop, I just had to have it. You know, itâs about experimenting, pushing the boundaries! It felt perfect for a weekend of exploring historic cobbled streets and gazing out over the vast ocean, like a fairytale princess from a storybook.
And twirling I did! Every corner, every beach walk, every glimpse of the beautiful old harbour ⌠a perfect moment for a twirl, even if itâs just a mini one in the comfort of your favourite vintage red tutu. My hair, swept up in a classic ballet bun, felt free in the wind, and that little red tutu just flowed so effortlessly! Oh, and you have to know that it attracted plenty of smiles, even some curious tourists who couldn't quite figure out what this tutu-wearing girl was doing. (But we donât let a few raised eyebrows dampen our joy, do we? Nope, never!).
So, letâs talk ballet! We saw the most amazing performance at Scarboroughâs Theatre by the Sea! âRomeo & Juliet,â my love for Shakespearean tragedies knows no bounds and this version of this story, interpreted by a group of local ballet dancers, was absolutely stunning!
Then there was ballet class! Now, if you've followed my blog for any amount of time, you know how much I love a good ballet class! The energy and elegance of ballet just keeps drawing me in! Itâs like meditation for the soul - all those leaps and twirls really let go of the weekâs stress. Plus, those costumes⌠I could stare at them for hours (a girl has got to keep up her style inspiration!).
Now, it wouldnât be a proper #EmmaTheBalletDancer experience without the gorgeous, local wildlife that Scarbrough has to offer. Seagulls of course! Those feathered rascals are always up to something! Then, there are seals, graceful yet so, so playful. We even caught a glimpse of a friendly family of grey seals basking on a beach! They seemed curious about me as much as I was about them - such delightful, charismatic creatures!
This weekend getaway wasnât just about experiencing the scenic coastline or savouring delicious local seafood (fresh, fresh crab and a gorgeous selection of local fish & chips!), it was about reminding myself to enjoy the simple things and find beauty in the ordinary. A leisurely morning coffee in a seaside cafe with a sea view and a croissant; exploring charming antique shops with an eye out for the most whimsical treasures; the quiet laughter of kids building sandcastles; the roar of the ocean; and even just being myself in a pink (or even red!) tutu, feeling happy, free, and a little bit magical.
Until next time, darlings! And don't forget - life is just a little bit more fun when you're twirling in a tutu! I can't wait to share more adventures with you. Stay fabulous, and keep twirling! (And maybe think about trying a red tutu!)
Yours in Pink, Emma xx
