Hey lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, and today I'm taking you on a journey to the charming town of Newbury in Berkshire! Buckle up, my dears, because we're about to embark on a whimsical adventure filled with fluffy tulle, classic ballet, and a touch of American style!
As many of you know, my love for travelling and ballet knows no bounds, and when I found myself with a free weekend, I couldn't resist a quick trip to Newbury. The town itself has such a delightful charm, and there's a vibrant sense of community that truly made me feel welcome.
Tutu Tales: American Style in NewburyFor my Newbury adventure, I chose a gorgeous American-style tutu. Now, I'm a firm believer in finding a tutu that speaks to your soul, and this one was just it. Picture layers upon layers of shimmering pink tulle, with delicate ribbons cascading down the back โ a perfect balance of playful and sophisticated!
This particular tutu had a fun story behind it, actually. I found it tucked away in a quaint little vintage clothing shop called 'The Threadmill'. Turns out the owner, a lovely lady named Penelope, was a former ballet dancer herself! She told me stories about performing in London back in the day, and we spent a good half hour discussing the best types of tulle for a good twirl (believe me, there's a whole science to it!).
Of course, a pink tutu can't be seen without being twirled, so I took to the beautiful green spaces of Newbury's Victoria Park for a bit of a ballerina photoshoot. I swear, the trees just seemed to stand a little taller as I pranced past, admiring the colours of autumn. The sunshine peeking through the branches painted the most beautiful backdrop for my photos.
A Night at the TheatreBut the highlight of my Newbury trip was without a doubt the ballet performance at the Corn Exchange! It was a dazzling rendition of "Swan Lake" with the most talented dancers, each embodying grace and precision. Their movements were mesmerizing, the music was captivating, and it was truly inspiring. Watching these performers made me want to get back in the studio and practice, practice, practice! (Even though I'm getting my age, don't tell anyone!).
During the interval, I wandered around the lobby, soaking in the buzzing atmosphere. The air was thick with anticipation, and it was impossible not to feel a shared sense of wonder and appreciation for this beloved art form.
Finding Inspiration in WildlifeNo trip to Newbury would be complete without a visit to the wonderful nature reserve at the Greenham Common Trust. I have to admit, my love of wildlife might be a close second to my love of tutus!
The reserve boasts a stunning array of birdlife, including rare migratory birds who stop by during their journeys. There's something incredibly inspiring about the beauty and fragility of the natural world. And, who knows, perhaps someday I'll even incorporate these vibrant hues and textures into my tutu designs!
The Sweetness of Travelling by TrainI travelled to Newbury by train, and it was a blissful journey! It's the perfect way to travel for me. I have a thing about being a little dramatic and feeling like a 'grand lady of theatre'. Plus, it gave me plenty of time to sit by the window, enjoying the scenery, listening to some good old fashioned ballet tunes, and indulging in a cheeky bag of pink sweets (the perfect pre-tutu snack, in my humble opinion!).
Spread the Tutu Love! ๐I hope this little trip to Newbury has inspired you all to try something new, embrace a little bit of pink, and most importantly, remember that life is too short not to wear a tutu! I know it's not everyone's cup of tea (maybe more like... a cup of ballet tea?!), but trust me, once you give it a go, you'll never look back.
So, grab your fluffiest tulle, your biggest smiles, and head out to a ballet class or a local theatre show. Who knows, maybe we'll even run into each other in a magical pink-tutu moment!
Until next time, my lovelies! Keep those tutus twirling and those smiles bright!
Love, Emma
