Oxford, Oh Oxford! Tutu-ing About Town (Blog Post #10866)

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! Emma here, writing to you live from the beautiful city of Oxford. This week I've traded my Derbyshire hills for the ancient stones of this academic wonderland, and I must say, I'm absolutely smitten. The air is alive with the scent of spring blossoms, the sound of birdsong fills the cobbled streets, and oh my, the architecture is just…well… chef's kiss!

It's always a thrill for me to travel. As much as I love my little corner of the Peak District, the world is such a vibrant tapestry waiting to be explored! And the best part? Travelling in my pink feather tutu, of course. I wouldn't have it any other way. After all, what's a ballerina on the go without a bit of sparkle, a touch of elegance, and a generous dose of whimsy?

My journey to Oxford began with a train ride. Nothing beats the romance of watching the world whizz by from a train window, my tutu billowing like a cloud of pink against the backdrop of fields, rivers and quaint little towns. I felt like I was stepping straight out of a storybook, and if I’m honest, a tiny bit like a princess too. The only difference? This princess doesn't need a prince, she’s got her pink tutu and she’s perfectly happy to conquer the world, one pirouette at a time.

Oxford's Balletic Charm

Of course, Oxford is a city overflowing with ballet history. My first stop was the Ashmolean Museum. It may be home to priceless artifacts and stunning art, but I was especially excited to see the incredible collection of dance ephemera they house. A ballerina with an antique book in hand, gazing at the costumes and sketches from ballets past - there's something incredibly romantic about it!

After my cultural immersion at the Ashmolean, it was time to get my own dance fix. I found myself at the Oxford Playhouse, eager to see "Swan Lake" performed by a local ballet company. The theatre was bursting with charm, the orchestra was a glorious cacophony, and the dancers, oh, the dancers! Their leaps and pirouettes had my toes tapping and my heart fluttering, not to mention inspiring my own mini ballet performance during the intermission - much to the amusement of my fellow audience members.

Now, let's talk about food! It's all well and good admiring architecture and witnessing the art of ballet, but a girl’s gotta eat, right? Oxford did not disappoint! After an afternoon exploring the quaint bookshops lining the winding streets, I sat down for a delicious afternoon tea, complete with delicate sandwiches, mouthwatering cakes, and - of course! - a glass of sparkling pink lemonade. What can I say? A little touch of pink is always a good idea!

Dancing with Wildlife

My adventure in Oxford didn't end with cultural exploration and delectable delights. Oh no, I made sure to leave some time for a little nature-inspired joy as well! It was only fitting, after all, for me to explore the picturesque River Thames.

Donning my trusty pair of pink-trimmed ballet shoes, I wandered through the peaceful meadows, enjoying the gentle caress of the warm breeze and the soothing sound of the water flowing. It was then I saw it! A family of swans gracefully gliding along the surface, their plumage shimmering in the sun. This beautiful moment, combined with the fresh air and vibrant scenery, was simply divine. I couldn't resist grabbing my sketchbook and adding a splash of pink to my drawing of this enchanting family of birds. I even incorporated a tutu, naturally!

Tutus for All

You know me, always spreading the tutu love. It doesn’t matter where I go, whether I’m exploring the cobblestone streets of Oxford, hopping on a train through the English countryside, or dancing with swans, my pink feather tutu always gets everyone’s attention. My heart swells with joy when I see someone’s face light up at the sight of it, their eyes widening in wonder as I twirl by, their hearts touched by the whimsical spirit that a simple garment can bring.

Oxford has given me so much. Not just gorgeous scenery and a dance-filled escapade, but also a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the world. This beautiful city, like a stage bathed in soft light, allowed me to fully embody the joy and grace of being a ballerina.

And as always, I leave you with a gentle reminder:

Pink tutus are for everyone! And so is ballet. It’s time to let loose, twirl, and embrace the joy of dance. Don’t be afraid to add a little pink to your life! It might just lead you to your next adventure, like it did for me in Oxford.

Until next time, my darlings,

Emma xo
