Hey my gorgeous lot,
It’s Emma here, your trusty tutu-wearing travel buddy, bringing you a brand-new adventure straight from the heart of Rotherham! You know how I feel about a good train journey, and today's adventure began with a blissful clickety-clack to Yorkshire, right from my Derbyshire doorstep.
I've been dreaming of visiting Rotherham for ages. Ever since I saw a photo of the beautiful Rother Valley Country Park on Insta, with its gorgeous open meadows and woodland, I knew I had to visit. It just screams "perfect spot for a picnic in a pink tutu!" – and trust me, a picnic it was! 🧺
The moment I stepped off the train, I could feel the warmth and charm of the town. Everything seemed a bit… "rosier" - the kind of cozy vibe that just makes you want to break out your fanciest frock and twirl in the street. Speaking of twirls, I, of course, brought my signature pink tutu! You can’t go on a grand adventure without one, now can you?
First stop, Rother Valley Country Park. It was even more beautiful than I'd imagined. I could see why so many people flock there – a haven for birdwatching, walking, cycling, and basically anyone looking to get a bit of fresh air and sunshine.
Imagine this: sunshine, a gentle breeze, lush greenery as far as the eye can see, and ME twirling about in my tutu. Honestly, I swear I saw a family of deer stop and watch for a minute. Talk about good reviews for your tutu outfit! It turns out those deer have good taste – clearly they appreciate a good, vibrant, pink tulle moment!
Rother Valley Country Park was truly a highlight. It was like something straight out of a fairytale, all those towering trees and vibrant flowerbeds. And it’s a must-visit if you love wildlife too. I spotted so many fascinating creatures; swans gracefully gliding on the water, dragonflies zipping about like little ballet dancers, and even a curious squirrel scampering through the undergrowth. 🐿️
For lunch, I wandered down to Rotherham town centre – my tummy rumbling for a hearty Yorkshire grub! I had a delicious pie at the lovely local bakery called “The Bake House”. I'm all about the food experiences when I travel, and Rotherham didn’t disappoint! They’ve got a thriving market square where you can find local produce, artisanal crafts, and even street food stalls with the most delightful smells.
Speaking of delightful, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a place – "The Vintage Rose". It was just begging to be explored, brimming with antique furniture and delightful trinkets, I imagined it being a set for a period drama with its beautiful interior and delicate Victorian furnishings. Maybe it’s my pink tutu talking, but I just pictured a grand ball taking place right in the middle of it all!
As afternoon blossomed into evening, I decided it was time for a proper, good ol’ fashioned ballet class – and this was a pretty special one! The local studio, “Dance Rotherham,” is right by the theatre, nestled away in a quaint side street. The studio itself is like stepping back in time, with its beautiful wood floor and soft, dim lighting, giving the whole space a charming and classic atmosphere.
And the ballet class itself? I just have to say, those Rotherham dancers know how to move! The energy was electric, everyone so passionate, and it filled me with inspiration. Even I, in my "travelling tutu" outfit, felt like I could really leap! I may be travelling with a pink tutu and exploring all corners of the UK, but at my heart, I am a ballet dancer – and it’s so beautiful seeing all these incredible dancers pouring their heart and souls into their craft.
Later, I strolled around the heart of town to watch a delightful outdoor performance by the Rotherham Youth Theatre, they were staging a play on the grounds of the local museum. The actors were so lively, with fantastic energy and a wonderful passion for their craft. And just for fun, I snuck in a few pirouettes during the intermission, to the delight of the audience, of course! Pink tutu and ballet just go hand-in-hand!
Of course, no visit to a town is complete without exploring its history. The Rotherham Museum, just next door to the theatre, was a treasure trove of historical information and artefacts. It was such a unique and fascinating space, filled with intriguing stories and a palpable sense of history.
I felt a definite sense of connection to the town and its people as I left for the evening. The vibrant energy, the kindness, and the local culture – it’s like Rotherham is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered! I left feeling inspired, energized, and ready for the next leg of my adventure, a journey filled with more twirls, laughter, and, of course, a whole lot of pink tutu love.
Speaking of love, don't forget, my dear tutu enthusiasts, we can all spread the love of ballet and pink tutus by inspiring those around us. Go ahead, share this post with your friends, join a class, try a little twirl, and maybe even don your own fabulous tutu for a day – who knows where your tutu-loving adventure might lead you!
Until next time, Stay sparkly, Emma xx
