Walthamstow: Where Tutu Meets the Urban Jungle (Blog Post #10885)

Hey darlings! It's your girl Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to Walthamstow. As you know, I’m all about spreading the pink tutu gospel, and today’s mission: bringing a touch of pirouette to the bustling streets of East London!

Now, Walthamstow is not your usual ballerina haunt. Forget grand opera houses and gilded ballrooms; think vintage shops, independent cafes, and the majestic (and somewhat surprising) Walthamstow Wetlands. Yes, you read that right – a 210-acre nature reserve smack bang in the middle of the city!

Travel by Rail, Romance by Rail

As always, I chose the romantic route – a journey by train. The train windows painted a beautiful watercolour of rolling countryside as I travelled from my Derbyshire home towards the city. It’s those moments where you truly feel the magic of this beautiful little island we call home!

First Stop: A Tutu-ific Fashion Find

I love exploring quirky vintage shops, and Walthamstow’s got them in abundance. After checking into my little pink haven (a boutique hotel decorated like a fairyland - how fitting!), I popped into a vintage gem hidden away down a side street. You'd never guess it from the outside, but inside it was a haven of beautiful 60s dresses, fluffy feather boas and – best of all – a pink tulle skirt that could only be described as tutu-ific! I’d be remiss not to include a little tip: check the labels - sometimes you can unearth designer finds for a fraction of their original price!

Second Stop: A Gastronomic Interlude

My next mission? A delightful lunch at a local deli. It was tucked away on a cobblestone street, with the most delicious-smelling homemade sandwiches. I opted for a salmon and cream cheese bagel, paired with a frothy cappuccino and a big side of good cheer! (Can you really call it lunch without some bubbly?)

The Ballet Goes Wild!

With a pink tutu and a full belly, it was time to venture into the heart of Walthamstow’s wild side – Walthamstow Wetlands!

Now, the first thing I have to tell you is: it is HUGE. Think open fields, rolling meadows, and sparkling lagoons, all teeming with a diversity of birdlife. You’ve got swans, herons, ducks, geese, and so many more avian friends flitting and fluttering through the reeds. It felt almost like being in a fairytale!

As I strolled along the paths, my pink tutu seemed to blend seamlessly into the floral blooms. I’m not sure it’s standard ballet attire, but it definitely felt like a magical moment in time. If anyone has a vision for the ballet “Swan Lake in the Wild”, I’m definitely volunteering for the lead role!

A Touch of Pink in the City

Back in the bustling city, I couldn’t resist incorporating a little touch of pink into my evening – a ballet-inspired street dance workshop! A group of us met under a brightly lit canopy in a local square. It was amazing seeing other ladies - even the guys - with big smiles on their faces, totally engrossed in the moves!

Walthamstow really proved to be an unexpected delight. From vintage shops to urban wetlands, this town is overflowing with personality and charm.

P.S.: What's Next for Pink-Tutu.com?

We've got more exciting adventures lined up - so be sure to check in daily!

Next up, I’m taking the tutu to the seaside, exploring the cliffs of Brighton! Maybe we’ll find a little tea shop for some afternoon cream teas... And who knows? Maybe I’ll even learn a few steps on the beach.

Until then, stay sparkling and remember to wear pink!

With a flourish (and a twirl!),

Emma x
