Hello my lovely Tutu Tribe! It’s Emma here, and I'm positively bursting with excitement after a simply fabulous day in the enchanting city of Bath! Now, I know what you’re thinking – Bath? Doesn’t that sound a bit... stuffy? But hold on tight, my dears, because this city had me spinning in my pink tutu with pure joy from sunrise to sunset.
The journey itself was an absolute dream. I left my Derbyshire haven aboard the 8:04 from Matlock, my favourite train line. There’s something about watching the world rush by from a comfy carriage window, sipping on Earl Grey tea and planning my adventures that makes me feel utterly free. And don't even get me started on the joy of spotting wild rabbits frolicking beside the track – it just feels so wholesome, doesn't it?
Reaching Bath, the first thing that struck me was the architecture. Oh my, the beautiful Georgian buildings with their warm honeyed stone - they felt like something straight out of a Jane Austen novel. It felt utterly romantic, and even though I wasn’t in a regency costume, I had a strong urge to spin like a graceful Jane Austen heroine while clutching a beautifully bound novel!
Naturally, my first stop had to be the Royal Crescent. It's impossible to not be completely charmed by those stunning semi-circular crescents of pristine white houses. I tried to imagine those opulent balls taking place in their grand interiors, and pictured the dancers in elegant ball gowns and the musicians playing waltzes in their perfectly-preserved interiors. Now, there’s an idea for a ballet performance! Perhaps next time, we’ll have a Regency ballet ball in Bath!
My love of ballet, as you all know, led me to The Theatre Royal. This place has history etched into its very fabric. It's one of the oldest working theatres in Britain. I felt a buzz just walking inside – so much creativity has been poured onto these historic boards. It's a truly inspiring place to feel the energy of performance.
As you all know, I’m never one to pass up the chance to twirl a bit myself! Bath offers some absolutely stunning dance classes – it turns out they have a great ballet community here! So, I headed to a lovely studio tucked away in a quiet street, threw on my bright pink tutu and, as my motto is "dance like nobody's watching" I immersed myself in an hour of beautiful, graceful movements. Oh, I love that feeling when your body starts to flow, and your worries fade away into the music. It’s pure bliss. Maybe you could even come visit for a workshop!
After that blissful workout, a delightful lunch was in order. Now, a proper ballerina always has to have afternoon tea. I mean, what better way to refuel your energy after a performance than with delicious cakes, dainty sandwiches and fragrant tea? I found myself at a beautiful café tucked away on a quiet backstreet, enjoying the sunshine and delicious raspberry tarts. And don’t forget the scone with clotted cream and jam. Just the thought makes me smile!
Speaking of charming details, one thing that really impressed me about Bath was its parks and gardens. It felt like I was constantly surrounded by a peaceful oasis amidst all the city buzz. My favourite had to be Victoria Park - it's so vibrant and colorful with a gorgeous Victorian glass pavilion. And the best part? I even spotted a cheeky squirrel playing in the shade! You all know my passion for our furry little friends – they bring so much joy to life! I wish they’d bring more joy to ballet, maybe some would love a mini tutus…
To complete this perfect day, I strolled along the River Avon as the sun began to dip below the horizon. The light softened, bathing everything in a golden hue and casting a beautiful reflection of the Georgian buildings in the gently flowing water. The air filled with a calmness that seemed to embrace the entire city. This really is the perfect spot to contemplate life and how beautifully perfect the world is.
My trip to Bath, my dears, was a true reminder that joy and beauty can be found everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. So, if you're ever looking for an enchanting day out with a touch of historical charm and a dose of ballet magic, I urge you to grab your pink tutu, hop on a train, and head to Bath! Just don’t forget to grab a cup of tea and a delicious scone!
Until next time,
Emma xxx
