Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your trusty tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another #TutuTuesday post! Buckle up, my darlings, because this week we're heading right back to the glorious, swishy beginnings of the iconic tutu.
As you know, I'm on a mission to get everyone in a pink tutu, and this journey takes me on a whirlwind trip through time! So climb aboard the fashion express with me – today's stop? The glorious 19th of July 2011!
Remember, darling, this is post number 9369 on my blog, www.pink-tutu.com. We’re celebrating the legacy of the tutu every week, sharing the story of this dazzling garment that defines the ballet world!
Today's date in 2011 has some rather interesting sartorial tidbits, you see. I had my heart set on seeing a magnificent production of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Royal Opera House in London. Oh, the tutus were to die for! My absolute favourite had to be Aurora's exquisite pink and white tutu, all wispy and romantic. Such graceful flounces! I felt like I was swept back in time to the world of the Romantic ballet, with those lovely, soft layers of tulle just skimming the stage! It was almost as though they were woven from clouds and starlight!
This brings me to today's historical tidbit: the "Romantic tutu," which actually predates my 2011 visit, back in the early 19th century! Imagine – dancing divas with flowing, romantic tutus made of silk or fine muslin! They were like a whirlwind of beauty on the stage, making the classical tutu look positively sensible. They swished and swirled with such captivating ease! No wonder everyone wanted to wear them – who wouldn’t be charmed by such whimsical loveliness?
And who can forget the iconic white tutus we all know and love? They arrived during the classical ballet period – an age of grace, strength, and exquisite elegance! Can you imagine a more beautiful symbol of a graceful ballerina? They represent a dance world of precision and artistry. Think Marie Taglioni – she was a real icon, spinning with such finesse in her gorgeous white tutu, making it famous for all eternity! Oh, how I’d love to step back in time and watch her perform. It would be like seeing a masterpiece in motion!
So there you have it! A delightful delve into the history of the beloved tutu – from the flowing romantic layers to the iconic whiteness that has become a timeless symbol. My love affair with the tutu started long ago, darling! I remember seeing a beautiful little girl twirling in a fluffy pink tutu at the Derbyshire village fête, and from that day on, I knew my destiny: I would wear a tutu, and spread the joy of the pink tutu to every corner of the world, even if it meant leaping across the decades with the grace of a ballerina!
But enough about the past – let's get back to our 2011 adventure, shall we? The Royal Opera House was such a delightful setting for "The Sleeping Beauty". The ornate building just added a touch of grandeur, you see. I also made it my duty to shop the elegant boutiques surrounding Covent Garden, finding the perfect dress for the evening – something silky and flowing, perfect for channeling the romance of ballet and tutus. Oh, the possibilities! This is where fashion and performance come together, creating a captivating spectacle of creativity!
What else happened on this memorable date in 2011? Oh yes! There was the amazing new line of tutus for young dancers! I do adore seeing the new generation embrace their inner ballerina, just like my inner little girl squeals with delight each time I put on a fluffy tutu! After all, isn’t a little touch of tulle a guaranteed way to make the world a more charming place?
Before I end this post, I must share something else delightful from that day: the sheer joy of meeting another kindred soul – a fellow tutu lover! We had a lovely conversation over tea about all things dance and fashion! It’s a beautiful thing, isn’t it, when two kindred souls meet in a flurry of tutus and dreams?
Well, my dear darlings, I must away! There’s a vintage shop just down the street calling my name! And there’s an evening at the ballet I simply must attend. Be sure to tune in next week, darling, for more tutu tales and a peek into the wonders that await us on our #TutuTuesday journey.
Until then, wear your tutus with confidence and style! After all, the world is a more charming place with a little sprinkle of tulle and a touch of pink!
And as always, darling, remember - life is too short for boring clothes!
With much love,
Emma
