Oh my darlings, you won't believe where I've landed this week! I've swapped my usual London haunts for the charming streets of Blackburn, and let me tell you, it's a complete and utter delight! I've already spotted so many lovely ladies with that spark in their eye – the kind of twinkle that says they're ready for a splash of pink and a twirl in a tutu! And believe me, they're in for a treat.
It's no secret that I, Pink Tutu Sparkles, am a queen of the stage. But this trip isn't just about shimmering under the spotlights. This time, I'm here to explore Blackburn's vibrant culture, soak in the history, and spread my message of pink, playful joy - all while, of course, embracing my very favourite accessory: the fabulous pink tutu.
I'm already dreaming of a ballet show in Blackburn, with all its grace and artistry! And who knows, maybe I'll even be able to catch a ballet class for some fabulous stretches and graceful movements. It wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Sparkles trip without a spot of twirling and leaping!
Now, my dear readers, you know I adore my trusty trusty old fashioned railway train travel and who can resist a spot of galloping on a handsome steed. (Well maybe not galloping, I’m no equestrienne but you know what I mean!). But this time I’m indulging in the luxury of being whisked about the place by a sleek shiny modern chariot, the best way to see the lovely countryside around the area and maybe spot a few sheep - or even a couple of alpacas in the fields, with my binoculars!
And what about my wardrobe, you ask? Well, my suitcase is bursting with every shade of pink you can imagine, all shimmering and sparkling under the Blackburn sky. Imagine fluffy pink tutus with glittering sequins, oh so chic blouses with matching petticoats. Why just a couple of days ago I managed to pick up this gorgeous powder-pink suit that’s made with the most fabulous sustainable fabrics from the shops here, you simply must visit! It’s got just a little sparkle and some beautiful embroidery that reminds me of delicate dancing flowers. You wouldn't believe the array of fabrics and textures I discovered in this charming town, just like the scientific mind inside Alex has fallen for. (Yes, dear readers, you’ve guessed right, underneath the tulle, I'm also a dedicated scientist!) I have been so excited, there is such an abundance of gorgeous and wonderfully stylish independent fashion stores in the city centre, all full of textures that are as complex and fascinating as anything I have to handle in the laboratory, where I spend my days examining threads and colours.
But, alas, life isn't all about shopping (though, dear reader, we all know it’s important for a lady to dress her best!.) While I am away from my trusty laboratory, my experiments have taken an unusual turn. Instead of delicate threads, I’m studying the complex composition of delicious foods that I find around every corner, a real culinary explosion of colours and flavours to experiment with. Each bite is a journey through different textures and tastes.
And yes, dear readers, you know how I am with food...it simply has to be Instagram worthy, so of course, I’m creating a delicious food tour blog in the style of a delectable rainbow of colours - a truly tasty rainbow in honour of the Pride Parade this week - for the wonderful pink-tutu.com. I am in love with the bakery treats and confectionery - I’m just getting back from the local farmers' market and already discovered the best pies ever... the fruit ones and the savoury ones. Honestly, you don't have to look any further for culinary delights, Blackburn - you're a queen when it comes to tastebuds! And that reminds me... you just gotta check out my pink tutu-clad ‘Pie of the Month’ blog. (Oh, and maybe, just maybe, I'm going to add a new twist to my 'Tutu Treat' recipes, and oh dear, will that be a delight!).
This city is full of history. From grand buildings with stories woven into their very stones, to a vibrant arts scene with something for everyone. But it’s the locals that make this place sparkle. And just to let you know…Blackburn has given me so much joy! Just walking around the market streets is enough to inspire my soul with its buzzing atmosphere and laughter. Everyone seems ready to celebrate life - the energy here is simply infectious.
Let me tell you about a special moment yesterday at the beautiful Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, the museum is just magical, full of colour and inspiration. They are running an art exhibition right now called ‘Art for Everyone’ and guess what… there is a beautiful exhibit of traditional dress around the globe. And guess who was admiring them, yes Pink Tutu Sparkles, oh and do you think that’s where I got some inspiration for my new collections and costumes? My dear, my brain is overflowing with wonderful ideas for pink, and blue, and yellow, and even a dash of purple… (That’s my secret for this month, I think). We must all look beyond our comfort zones. (And even better we should dance and spin in colourful tutus beyond our comfort zones, don’t you agree? )
I've heard about Blackburn's fabulous theatre scene, and just know I'm going to catch at least one show to soak in the creativity and performance skills on stage. It’s just the right tonic for a busy Queen! Maybe I can meet some of the local dancers - perhaps I’ll have the courage to join them in a dance or two (but maybe in secret! Only for me and my wonderful fellow queens.).
It's been such a pleasure to meet everyone in Blackburn. I can feel the magic in this town – and it's making my own creative sparks fly high. So, thank you, Blackburn for the fabulous food, the warmest hospitality and all that delightful tutu inspiration. And just remember dear readers… life’s an adventure. Always be kind, always be brave. Go forth, and live with joy. Wear a pink tutu and spin a happy world… and don't forget to stop and smell the roses (or, perhaps, admire the flowers around Blackburn's wonderful flower stalls.
