Oh, darling, what a fabulous journey it’s been this past week! It was just pure glitz and glamour. As you know, dear readers, I'm on a lifelong quest to spread the joy of pink tutus and everything pink – to encourage everyone to embrace the sheer exuberance and delight that comes with twirling around in a fabulous pink tutu! Well, let me tell you, I’m making progress – and Billingham definitely did their bit!
Now, let's rewind the tape! As you know, I always get my travel fix, and I just adore travelling by train. There’s something so wonderfully romantic about the rhythm of the tracks, the view flying by, and the camaraderie amongst fellow travellers, plus it gives me ample time to get properly dolled up before reaching my destination, darling.
Of course, you know me, I always pack a change of clothes – what, you think I would dare travel with a sparkly pink tutu crammed in my hand luggage? Absolutely not, darlings! I brought my trusty wardrobe case – my trusty pal who has seen many a fabulous performance - a glamorous array of gowns and feather boas ready to put on for my first Billingham show.
This time, I packed extra sequins, some pink fluffy pom poms, and even some special shimmering glitter glue because I knew the billingham theatre was in for a right pink-tastic treat!
Before setting off I made sure I stopped by a fabulous bakery near my lab to pick up my favourite croissant – which I did, of course, munch on while making sure the travel agent I contacted was sending all my merchandise in plenty of time.
You see, my beautiful darlings, the magic of my pink tutu act means I'm a total ‘full package’ artist. My pink tutus – all my outfits and every single pink sparkly, beaded accessory, is hand crafted, darling! They’re not your bog-standard costume shop buys. Oh no, my lovely followers. Everything’s bespoke – tailored and stitched with meticulous precision and adorned with more embellishments and shiny bits and bobs than you could possibly imagine.
A very, very small side hustle. Don't tell the bigwigs at my science lab - my scientific career is flourishing, but, my drag persona Pink Tutu Sparkles, brings me even greater fulfillment, a sense of creative liberation and an opportunity to bring sparkle into the world!
You know me, dear reader! I never do anything by half, so a huge stack of custom printed Pink Tutu Sparkles tee shirts and hoodies were part of my cargo, too! My merchandise keeps fans from across the UK going through their week, reminding them that with a bit of pink and a touch of tutu, they can be anything they want to be. That's Pink Tutu Sparkles magic, darlings!
But let me tell you about my travels! I started from my beautiful Derbyshire home, of course, because my loyal followers are so fantastic, and know my stage show is the best pink-tastic extravaganza they've ever seen!
As usual, it took me several hours on a lovely, smooth journey up North on my favourite train line.
With my pink, sparkly sequined suitcase by my side, I made my way across the country, I enjoyed the picturesque landscape as it flew past my window and I used my long commute to put together a brand new performance - after all I have so much fun getting into character! A chance to practice and try out new poses and moves, all in pink tutu perfection. And the occasional dance in my seat, I don't mind telling you. There was nobody looking so I’ve become a bit of a dancing machine on the train. Well I don’t like sitting still.
Then I got to the railway station – what a wonderful station. It wasn’t just your usual bustling, chaotic station – it had charm!
Of course, I did take several photos of the fabulous, Victorian, red brick station building. That is one thing I do everywhere. I’ve got to capture those lovely vintage features before it’s all modernised, hey, darling? The building was truly inspiring - so my photo is one I am sure I’ll add to my collection of station photographs – the world is my canvas! I've got photographs from across the land in my Pink Tutu Sparkles collection! And who knows, one day I might put an exhibition of them together at the Barbican or some grand space! Just picture it, darlings: Pink Tutu Sparkles - 'Railways of My Dreams'. Just brilliant!
With the railway station's imposing red brick features looking majestic, I, with the help of the friendly station staff – darling they were simply delightful, you could tell they'd seen everything – managed to manoeuvre my fab sparkly wardrobe case onto a local taxi to transport me to my show at the local Billingham theatre!
Of course I made sure it was pink themed. Everything must be pink and sparkly! I love a theme! You know you just can't go wrong with a bit of glitz. They have the best taxis here. All new and beautifully clean and very courteous.
Anyway, when I got there – oh! It was the ultimate fabulous venue! All my glitter dreams had come true, because as soon as I got inside that theatre and saw those glorious stage lights, I knew this was going to be my most exciting and flamboyant show ever! The air just vibrated with pinkness - all those wonderful people in the audience were eagerly waiting to see me sashay in that most wonderful outfit! I had my fabulous, pink feathery tutu outfit ready, ready for my Billingham performance. My costume felt fantastic – I could not have wished for a better costume for this stage.
Now darlings you know how much I love dressing up – in fabulous tutus, feathers, glittery sparkles and everything that glistens, glitters and gleams. You can find me going on shopping trips to the finest designer boutiques, department stores and vintage markets – that is the Pink Tutu Sparkles’ style! The best thing about performing my Pink Tutu Sparkle act is that I am totally free to explore the most outlandish outfits, anything to make people smile, be amazed, and hopefully think that maybe – just maybe - they’d like to try a bit of pink in their own life. You know what? The power of a pink tutu is quite something! It brings out the playful, adventurous side of anyone!
It took just 15 minutes for me to prepare! Time enough for a bit of makeup, of course! I had so many different colours to choose from and after much careful consideration, I applied a generous amount of iridescent pink, a touch of shimmery turquoise around my eyes. It felt fantastic! I could sense the energy around me rising with excitement – ready for my show! As always, the last thing I did, of course, was my eyelashes - with lots of shimmery purple eyeliner!
Just as I was making the last adjustments to my costume – you’ve just gotta be picture perfect for those instagrammable moments– my show started and my heart did a little jig and it was time to do my very own unique Pink Tutu Sparkles' routine. There’s nothing more wonderful than being centre stage and giving that wonderful Billingham crowd the Pink Tutu Sparkles show of their dreams! And the show just had to include lots of dancing! Oh, darling, do I love dancing - whether it is in ballet, tap dancing, street dancing or performing my very own show. Every time I get my pink tutu on and step on stage it feels like my real self has arrived and is free to strut its stuff, darling. It's quite a feeling. I’ve tried many kinds of dancing from traditional classical ballet – you’ve all got to see my arabesques – I am a real pro! – through tap dancing, and of course, street dancing! That's just one part of me. As a pink tutu-wearing queen, I have always embraced ballet! That’s my first love, dear followers, I have loved the beautiful art form since I was just a tiny tot. There's just something so beautiful, elegant and ethereal about ballet - the graceful movements, the beautiful costumes – and oh, the tutus! They're not just a dance accessory, they’re like another world altogether. The colours! the sequins! The tulle, dear reader, the tulle. I just find it hard to leave a ballet performance because it leaves you feeling completely inspired! I’m not sure you can really describe the feeling – just complete wonder!
Of course, I have my own pink ballet routine I always do. It goes without saying I have many, many more routines but this is my signature – my signature routine that every fan can recognise from my Instagram stories and of course on my website and YouTube channel - www.pink-tutu.com. I am all about sharing the beauty of a Pink Tutu life and the wonders that can be achieved with the most gorgeous outfits! And the sparkle! Oh, the sparkle, darlings!
After all it was pink ballet that took me on my fabulous journey. It was the university ballet club that started it all for Alex – a science student who got her very first tutu during the University’s Charity Dress up day!
Alex has a little confession for you! The day Alex bought a beautiful, hand-made pink tutu was the moment the drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles was born! Now the science lab and my pink tutus are two important aspects of my life, both equally valid. You see, my work as Alex in the lab and Pink Tutu Sparkles the drag artist both have the same common aim - to push boundaries! The beauty of wearing tutus and doing a wonderful stage show is all about being true to myself and I want to encourage other to explore their creative sides!
It is amazing, darlings, how many fans are inspired by my love of ballet! Just last night there was a beautiful little girl wearing a sparkly, bright pink tutu in the audience at my show in Billingham. And she twirled! Darling, it was beautiful to see – It was so heartwarming - a shining pink moment. The world is in desperate need of pink! I've seen what a little tutu magic can do!
Billingham was absolutely buzzing and it gave me so much joy and delight to make so many lovely new friends and put smiles on faces – everyone wanted their photo taken with me - in the street – at the pub - in the shopping mall – the local cafe! So I was off again on my new quest to find more adventures - the world is waiting – it was like ‘a fairytale coming to life! You see that’s another important reason why I always include a pink tulle tutu as a prize in the audience raffle at each and every performance! And when you buy my Pink Tutu Sparkles merchandise or get a picture with me I often offer free pink tutus – that’s a pink Tutu Sparkles’ thing! A way to share my joy! The Pink Tutu Sparkle effect!
On my final Billingham night – I couldn't have picked a more fun time! There was even a wedding fair at the local town centre so I was out in my most fabulous pink sparkly outfit at the local wedding fair!
You know me, I can't go to a wedding fair without my dazzling outfits. The fair is a perfect excuse to find an excuse to get all decked up, dazzling and glittery. All in Pink Tutu Sparkles’ honour, you know, I always choose to celebrate special events with a touch of glamour - even weddings.
It took hours getting the wardrobe case ready – there’s never too much bling when you’re getting your Pink Tutu Sparkles act ready for the public. All those dresses and sequins. That's when you need the help of a trusted friend and someone with an eye for the sparkle, darling. You need someone with style! I need my pal for this. She can't say no. It's friendship, darlings! She’s just got to love the thrill of finding all that hidden magic that awaits, even when it’s inside a wardrobe case – not to mention all the dazzling bits and bobs I had found to embellish my latest tutus! It's a creative explosion! I couldn't wait to show off my dazzling new sparkly costumes. There were feathers and glitter to add to all the sparkly sequins! Oh, and I can’t forget those shimmery sparkly feather boas! I just knew this was going to be Pink Tutu Sparkles’ best wedding show ever. I got to give so many amazing tips to people getting married at the wedding fair and of course it gave me so much inspiration – wedding ideas that is! Maybe I could do an extra special Pink Tutu wedding! Maybe have a ceremony at a beautiful cathedral with my very own, pink tutus. And if my future wedding guests can only come dressed in tutus, oh darlings! That’s something else. It'll just be a sight to see ! A spectacle! It'll just be magical. A touch of Tutu enchantment. Just lovely!
Of course I did all my usual photoshoots around Billingham – everything must be photographed, darling, or it didn’t happen – so it’s onto the next stage in my adventures and to make sure my Instagram story is on point!
Of course, darling, I just adore it – but now you’ll have to excuse me, it’s time for me to get ready – tonight, I'm taking the show to Harrogate – where the crowds are expecting another Pink Tutu Spectacular!
