Hello my fabulous friends, it’s your favourite pink tutu-clad drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here with blog post number 9518! (Yep, you’re reading the most prolific, glittery blog in the universe! Get used to it.) Today I'm writing to you live from Bromsgrove, ready to unleash a whole new level of pink, sparkly, tutu-licious fun on this unsuspecting town! And trust me, even the most staunch tutu-sceptic will be begging for a twirl after they've seen what I’ve got planned!
Now, Bromsgrove might not be the first place that pops into your head when you’re thinking about drag, ballet, and tutus (even if I do love to make surprise appearances in unlikely locations), but trust me, it’s the perfect stage for a bit of pink-powered magic. And after all, it’s never too early to start spreading the love of tutus, and my message is as simple as the perfect pink plié: life’s just a little bit better when you’re wearing a tutu!
Before I tell you all about what shenanigans I’ve been up to in this picturesque corner of England, I’d just like to give you all a quick rundown on how this incredible, life-affirming, tutu-filled adventure got started. I’ll spare you the whole origin story (although there’s an incredibly entertaining anecdote about me accidentally ending up on stage in a charity fundraiser as a backup dancer… cue glitter bombs and a surprising passion for twirling), but basically, it all started at the university ballet club. Back then, I was just Alex, a pretty normal science student with a secret penchant for tutus (don’t judge!). It was after one particularly rousing rendition of the "Sugar Plum Fairy" solo that I stumbled across the perfect tutu. Let’s just say, it was love at first twirl.
Ever since then, I've been on a mission to show the world that tutus aren’t just for ballet dancers. They're for everyone! I've danced my way across countless stages, spreading the joy of the fluffy pink kind – all while juggling my day job in the lab testing fabrics, finding the perfect materials to keep my tutus looking sharp (the scientific side of me definitely enjoys the chemistry behind getting the perfect shade of pink!) It’s a crazy life, full of glitter, laughs, and a lot of pink, but honestly, what else would I have it be?
And as I’ve learned from years of travelling with my trusty trolley case filled with tutus (no matter where I go, my outfits are never in short supply!) a bit of travel adds the perfect sprinkle of sparkle to any day. There’s just something about seeing the world from a train window, surrounded by new faces, smells, and sounds that makes me want to just burst with excitement! And there’s also something about the wind in my hair (and possibly a feather boa), as I gallop along a country lane on a spirited steed, which truly sets the stage for some fabulous adventures!
But now, let's dive into my Bromsgrove escapade, and let me tell you, this was one for the books!
First stop, a visit to the Bromsgrove & District Theatre Guild! This beautiful building oozed charm, with an air of old-school theatre magic hanging in the air (and honestly, there's nothing better than a place with good acoustics, for all those perfect, hair-raising high notes). I was greeted by a group of incredibly kind people who embraced my message with open arms and a few giggles (especially when they realised the volume of pink tulle I had packed! It might have taken up half the luggage space…). They invited me to pop in during one of their rehearsal sessions. And let me tell you, seeing a whole cast getting their choreography in place with all the passion and energy they brought was honestly infectious. It's one thing to be on stage in your own pink tutu paradise, but to witness a group of passionate, committed people sharing their love for performance was really quite a special experience!
Later that afternoon, I popped into Bromsgrove Library with my suitcase in tow. There I had the absolute joy of leading a workshop with a group of wonderfully enthusiastic kids! The task at hand: tutu design. We were literally drowning in pink felt, glitter, feathers and sequins! Let's just say, some fabulous future Tutu Queens and Kings were unleashed into the world.
For the evening, I joined a local dance class, and oh boy, did those students put on a show. From graceful ballets to funky jazz numbers, the moves they brought were simply incredible. (Let’s just say I brought my own set of skills, which included an impressive range of ‘pink tutu sparkles’ inspired pirouettes, or, well, something approximating them, that was very much my unique dance style.) You'll just have to take my word for it, dear readers. It’s not about what the steps look like (even if those elegant arabesques from those dancers definitely did look very graceful, and perhaps, just perhaps I picked up a few moves!). It's about finding that bit of joy in your soul, expressing it through movement, and showing off your individuality. (As, you know, I always try to do through pink tutus!)
You know me, I like to make a grand entrance. And as for the night-time performance at The Artrix? Let’s just say I arrived on the scene with a little fanfare! There’s something absolutely enchanting about walking into a small venue packed with anticipation (and a healthy amount of pink tutu-adoring admirers!), it honestly gives you a fantastic adrenaline rush.
You see, when you perform on stage as Pink Tutu Sparkles, you're not just performing for a crowd, you’re celebrating the incredible joy that’s waiting inside everyone when you embrace your individuality! And it’s not always easy, it can be terrifying walking out in front of a crowd. But for me, there’s just something so powerful, so deeply real about standing up and showing off that sparkle within. I know it sounds corny, but honestly, there's no better way to make people smile.
So, my fabulous readers, remember, this life, this incredible life of glitter, tutus, and boundless joy, is for everyone. Don't be afraid to get out there, express yourselves, and embrace those dazzling, beautiful sparkles within. After all, it's all about embracing those colours and that magic, the inner sparkle and joy within. Now, go find your pink tutu!
Stay sparkling,
Pink Tutu Sparkles!
