Hiya, darlings! It’s your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles here, signing in live from the magical, misty hills of Pont-y-pool, Wales. This is blog post number 9519 for your beloved www.pink-tutu.com, and it’s bursting with pink and sparkles like a sugar plum fairy's dream.
My recent trip to this quaint town was an absolute delight! I travelled there by train, of course - nothing beats the view out the window, especially when you’re looking out at rolling countryside bathed in sunshine. And my tutu, well, it practically flowed in the breeze!
Let me tell you, Pont-y-pool, nestled in the valleys of Wales, had so much charm and history to offer. It was a perfect backdrop for a good dose of Tutu Queen flair.
I just loved the welcoming vibe! From the moment I arrived, the people were so friendly, it was like being embraced by a warm hug. And their smiles were just as bright and delightful as the colourful floral displays bursting out of every window box. My pink tutu stood out brilliantly against the stone facades of the buildings. They must have loved the colour pink as much as I do, because everywhere you looked it seemed to be around.
Naturally, I headed straight for the heart of the town to start my explorations. I just had to try their local bakery’s famous cream cakes - so decadent and delightful. And I, of course, wore my prettiest pink tutu - because when it comes to cake, we’re always looking for something a little bit extra special. Then I ventured to the historic Pont-y-pool park – you should have seen me flitting around in my tutu with the ducks, such fun! They seemed fascinated by my pink feathers - or maybe they just appreciated my fabulous fashion.
Ballet Magic in the Heart of Wales
One of the best things about my trip to Pont-y-pool was experiencing the incredible ballet show hosted at the local theatre. Talk about a real treat! The choreography was stunningly graceful, and I was captivated by the ballerina's delicate movements, each pose just as delicate and beautiful as a single petal. The performers’ artistry was inspiring – a perfect testament to dedication, discipline, and creativity. The elegant ballet dancers' performances really took me right back to my days as a member of the University Ballet Club. Oh how I’d loved donning a tutu in those days! It all started during a university fundraising charity event. I was supposed to dress up as a character from Alice in Wonderland but couldn’t find anything appropriate in the charity shop until I saw this tutu hidden away on a dusty rack. I tried it on, and I must have felt like a princess - instantly I knew my drag persona was going to be Pink Tutu Sparkles.
Even the stage and the set had that unmistakable "ballet school" vibe. I felt like I was transported right back to those carefree days. I have a confession though, the whole evening got me thinking about a career in ballet... but alas, my two left feet might get in the way!
Adventures In Tutu: My Personal Style and the Joy of Pink
What's the fun in exploring without wearing something absolutely spectacular? I certainly wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without my Pink Tutu. And today was no exception. I have to tell you, my most treasured Tutu came all the way from Derbyshire, my home county!
I have a bit of a confession, dear reader, my "Day-Alex" is a little bit of a fabric geek! It’s a funny kind of passion, you might say, and it definitely influences my drag looks. But you can bet I wear my Pink Tutu to work with pride! My colleagues at the textile research lab where I spend my days (and yes, I test fabrics to make sure they can withstand washing) get such a kick out of it they often tell me I’ve gone to a performance straight from work - which isn’t quite accurate but they’re so close to the truth!
Anyway, in Pont-y-pool I just loved pairing my pink tutu with some vintage finds that I spotted in the local antique market, and of course, some truly fabulous feather boas for an extra touch of extravaganza! The antique market was brimming with hidden treasures. I stumbled upon an exquisite antique locket, as if crafted for a Victorian fairytale - the kind you see in romantic movies, you know? I couldn’t leave without it, and I was thinking, “How amazing would this look with my tutu?" It really was meant to be! Of course I added some blush-tinted makeup - can’t leave the house without my pink!
From Derbyshire to Pont-y-pool, My Journey of Pink-ness
There is a story behind the Pink Tutu you might not know, sweethearts!
Derbyshire has been a place of deep meaning for me. I can't tell you enough about my favourite ballet school tucked away in the heart of the Dales - a haven where the magical sounds of a pianist playing classical music blended with the rhythmic clickety clack of dancer’s shoes. And the soft light pouring in through the window pane.... You would be absolutely blown away.
In those studios, every graceful arabesque, every effortless pirouette - everything seemed so effortlessly beautiful. You could tell the ballet masters and mistresses had dedicated their lives to teaching. And then, I'd spend my evenings at the local pub, the atmosphere of which just hummed with warmth and kindness. Those nights would see me practicing some of the steps I’d learned at ballet school.
That’s my life - my "day" job of fabric testing and "night" as Pink Tutu Sparkles, bringing joy to everyone I meet. I really want to bring a touch of magic and sprinkle some happiness around! This is why I decided to travel by horse to Pont-y-pool, it was an adventure in tutu you see - but I had to be really quick and use a really good saddle!
Pont-y-pool - you stole my heart!
Now, sweethearts, if you haven’t done so already, grab yourself a Pink Tutu and get out there, make a statement and create a new adventure in style. Don't be afraid to break out of the box! Don’t just go out - get out there in style and remember to tutu much!
And of course, don’t forget to leave a comment and let me know what adventures you’re up to.
Love,
Pink Tutu Sparkles
