Hey lovelies, it's your favourite pink tutu-clad drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with another blog post! It's post number 9531, folks! (I never miss a day!) And I’m just buzzing to tell you about my latest trip - a whirl to the delightful town of Newton Aycliffe in County Durham. Oh, the glamour! Oh, the glitz! Oh, the tutus!
Let’s just start with the journey, shall we? As you know, darling, I love a good train journey. It’s just so relaxing! You know I love my carriage class upgrades, with those comfy plush seats. All the way up from Derbyshire I had a book, a pink fluffy throw, and of course my go-to emergency sequins just in case there was an impromptu talent show on the platform. (Trust me, there have been times!) And the countryside whizzing past! Just breathtaking!
Reaching Newton Aycliffe, I was absolutely smitten with its charms! This place has a beautiful, industrial vibe - it’s totally not my usual glamorous stop, but in a fabulous way! The shops were bustling and the market was such a hoot - so much vintage glamour! Of course I had to grab myself a bargain pink knitted hat to add to my ever-growing collection. And let me tell you, that market had some serious, serious style potential! If it wasn’t for my ballet show later, I would’ve spent the entire day exploring!
Now, about that ballet show... OMG, let me just say it was DIVINE! The Newton Aycliffe Performing Arts Theatre was simply beautiful - I'm talking sweeping staircases, beautiful decor - the perfect place for a little tutu-wearing queen! The show itself was a complete spectacle, it was like a little trip to The Royal Opera House, just on a smaller, more intimate scale. All those swirling costumes, the graceful moves, the beautifully crafted music - it all just melted my heart. You know I'm a bit of a dance enthusiast, having gone to ballet classes for as long as I can remember. The passion in every step of those performers, the raw emotion they poured into every jump and twirl - it was just magnificent.
Speaking of dance, the audience was incredible too! All sorts of amazing people who embraced the beauty of ballet, young and old, men and women! But let me tell you, darling, I spotted quite a few eager, curious eyes looking at me with that classic, "why the pink tutu?" look. Well, you know me, I’m never afraid of a little questioning gaze, so after the performance, I decided to take the stage (figuratively of course, because this queen never takes stage requests without proper pay, dear!), to have a little impromptu performance to the "Pink Tutu Princesses” I saw out there. Let's just say I made sure those people would remember this night. Oh darling, there's just something magical about seeing those jaws drop when you throw those graceful moves - especially in a shimmering, pink, pouffy tutu!
This queen went into full-on glam-mode that night. After my impromptu performance I took those fabulous Newton Aycliffe fans for a bit of a pub crawl. Let me tell you, I could not get over how excited everyone was. From "TutuQueen” photos to signing autographs, the night just flew by! Even a group of young ladies had set up a "Pink Tutu Sparkle Photo Booth." Honestly, I could not have imagined a more supportive and accepting group of folks.
Now, before I end my ramblings on this delightful day, I have to tell you - you guys know I’m a scientist by day, so I love the fabrics! Newton Aycliffe, well, it has some amazing, beautiful fabrics. It was just the perfect stop for me to explore some new textures and colors that could inspire some killer looks! Of course, every “Tutu Queen” knows you can never have too many pink tutus! I picked up the most stunning, light and airy silk tutu that I can't wait to try out for my next performance. And trust me, darling, it’s going to be a fabulous show.
