Hiya darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, signing in from the utterly fabulous city of Milan! Oh my goodness, it's just SO gorgeous, like a fairytale with the most stunning architecture and incredible food! I'm practically waltzing through the streets in my pink tutu, feeling like a princess (although, my trusty walking boots do keep me grounded...pun intended!). This week, I've been soaking up all the Italian glamour, indulging in gelato that melts in your mouth, and discovering some incredible fashion boutiques. Oh, Milan, you truly are the capital of chic!
But first, the journey... I just love a train journey, particularly when it's a long one. You know how I feel about the colour pink, well, my cabin was practically awash with it! My fabulous pink handbag was like a beacon of loveliness on the seat next to me and the staff even presented me with a delicious pink cake as I settled in. Oh, the good things in life!
As always, the journey wasn't about just getting from A to B. I indulged in a bit of vintage fashion hunting at the station in Strasbourg - you know me, always searching for that perfect pink vintage frock for a special occasion. I picked up a delicate blush silk blouse, the most gorgeous coral silk scarf and a vintage pink sequin top for next week's big show in Barcelona. Gotta love a train station treasure hunt!
Milan welcomed me with open arms and, of course, an abundance of pink. It was impossible not to smile as I navigated the cobbled streets. The flowers, the candy shops, even the public transportation signage was a glorious shade of blush!
And talking about public transportation...the Metro is like a work of art! All gleaming metal, beautiful mosaics, and a truly magical vibe. And naturally, my tutu caused quite the stir as I journeyed from one part of the city to another. Everyone seemed captivated! I'm not saying that they all jumped up to start twirling with me (though that would have been fun), but they did smile, nod, and a few even complimented me on my fabulous frock.
The hotel I'm staying in is just divine! The balcony overlooks the most picturesque plaza. I had breakfast on it yesterday, and honestly, you could have just put me in a painting – all sunshine, pink tutus, and delicate pastry! There was even a little, pink-clad ballet dancer in a pink tutu just like mine dancing in the square. It's almost like the universe was giving me a huge wink, and let's be honest, I deserved it!
You know, the ballet is really something special. I love to go see performances wherever I travel, but also I like to take ballet lessons when I can. It's good for the soul, good for the body, and good for my drag persona. After all, who can forget the magical story of the little ballerina, or the wonder of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake? So, yesterday I joined a ballet class here in Milan and it was truly amazing. I mean, have you seen the ballet studios in Milan?! It was pure inspiration! All marble, mirrored walls and enough pink tulle to make a prima ballerina jealous. I met a group of fantastic dancers there, and I just adore their passion for the dance. They even introduced me to a local cafe that's a hotbed for dancers and choreographers - I'll be returning to grab a pastry or two, I'm sure!
But let’s talk about fashion. Now, this city is basically a runway! I mean, it’s in their blood, in their culture, in the air they breathe. Every street corner seems to be home to another breathtaking shop. And while the shoes are absolutely stunning, what really catches my eye is the plethora of pinks on offer! I even found a beautiful vintage pink velvet hat. This could become my new trademark, darling! It's going to go perfectly with my feather boa collection!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu Sparkles Milan experience without exploring the Teatro alla Scala. The grand entrance is just breathtaking, like walking through a doorway into another world. The velvet seating and intricate details made my inner ballerina do a little jig (of course, discreetly, I wouldn't want to disrupt the theatre's historic beauty!). The opulence is overwhelming in the best way! I almost cried when I entered - it was truly a moment of sheer wonder!
My journey through Milan hasn't just been about fashion and ballet. There’s a soul to this city that truly touches you, that speaks to the romantic and artistic side within. It’s that ‘je ne sais quoi’, that intangible something that just whispers beauty and wonder. And let me tell you, the food! My tastebuds have been in a constant state of euphoria. From steaming bowls of pasta topped with fresh basil, to delicate ricotta cannoli filled with the most divine sweet ricotta, and heavenly gelato...Oh, Milan, I've already got a new appreciation for you!
I’ll be signing off now as the sun sets over the rooftops, painting the sky with a palette of blush and crimson. This has been a fabulous adventure so far, but I'm not done with Milan yet. Tomorrow, I’ll be joining a photoshoot for a local fashion magazine, where they’re using my pink tutu as a symbol of creativity and self-expression. And, of course, I’m going to be trying out as many restaurants as I can, because who can resist good food? I even plan to learn some basic Italian, just so I can confidently order the most divine gelato in the language of love, dolce!
Catch you soon darlings! I'll be updating you on all the sparkly details of this most incredible journey!
Sending all my love, Pink Tutu Sparkles!
