Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back again with another adventure in the wonderful world of tutus and sparkles! This time, I'm bringing you all the glitz and glamour of Derby, the very place I call home! Oh, the irony! 😉
Now, I've told you all before about my love for ballet. It’s practically a religion in my household, with the rhythmic thumping of tap shoes and the pirouette-ing of ballerinas the soundtrack of my childhood. Honestly, who needs the Spice Girls when you've got the majesty of Tchaikovsky swirling around you? I'll tell you, nobody! I even used to wear a sparkly pink tutu to ballet class. A true trendsetter, me. No, no, darling, don’t tell me, the fashion police would definitely be on my case! But listen, I am, after all, a walking beacon of tutus, and, honestly, there was never a bad moment in that little pink confection. Not even when I tripped, (we all trip, right?!) or when I lost my balance, and the whole class had to wait, while I scrambled back onto my tiny little ballerina feet. But then, there's the joy of feeling the satin swirl around you like the magical tail of a whimsical unicorn, which always made up for any stumbles.
So when my latest foray into the fabulous world of performance landed me in Derby, my heart simply skipped a beat! A chance to perform on the very stage that hosted many a grand theatrical spectacle, it just felt, well, it just felt destiny! This is what it is all about - the glamour, the stage, the performance - the feeling that somehow all these tutus, rhinestones, and bright pink feather boas mean something!
This time, though, I'm getting all scientific! Because, let's be real, we have to think logically about these things. Even the fabulous pink tutu queen must get practical. As I said before, in the day, I'm Alex, a proper scientific mind working in a proper science laboratory, analyzing the structure of fabrics and the resistance of silk and sequins under various pressure conditions - it’s actually incredibly glamorous!
That’s right, darlings, I’m your resident scientist-extraordinaire. When I'm not on stage shimmering and shining in all my pink, I’m using the science of textiles and fabric in the laboratory! Who says you can't be both glamorous and intelligent? Me, for one! Don’t even try to tell me you’ve not tried on that glamorous sequin-encrusted fabric, pulled a delicate thread or two, and pretended it was a princess dress. Let’s just be honest! There are things more important than research papers and complex equations (sometimes!) and those things involve the right blend of sequins and silk!
For my Derby performance, I’ve been working with the very best tailors, the ones who’ve been whipping up a selection of dazzling gowns that would even put the Derby Royal Ballet’s wardrobe department to shame! Oh, we’ve even had a little consultation to get that perfect blush pink tulle tutu just right - not too fluffy, not too full, just a delightful explosion of perfect pink - a dream of a pink! And to top it all off, a feather boa. Yes! A boa with feathers! I am a goddess in the making, I can just feel it.
Now, the whole travelling and touring experience in itself is a wonderful story. The journey! Have you seen a better mode of travel than a horse-drawn carriage, or maybe a steam engine train, thundering through the countryside with me sat in my sparkly pink tutu on board - just picturing it? Well, I haven’t seen anything better! The best way to reach those rural backwaters that nobody even dreams of. And, when you do get there, it's like stepping into another world, into a storybook realm!
It's the people I meet along the way, it's the countryside, and all those quiet nooks and crannies. In the big cities you've always got the bright lights and all those famous names in the press, but, you know, sometimes you just need that simple little town hall theatre where everyone comes out and knows your name, knows you’re a pink tutu loving drag queen. You’ll know it too, just ask me.
That’s what makes Derby a little extra special, it has those quintessential quaint and lovely traditional halls and theatre spaces that make for an intimate setting. I am talking a traditional and authentic town hall, where the theatre is all tucked away up an ancient and creaking staircase - a storybook kind of space for our special storybook Pink Tutu Sparkles, where you've got all that warmth and that family feeling. A chance to perform to audiences who aren’t just a bunch of hipsters chasing after a flash, but actual families - grandparents and kids all dressed up!
The thing about a Derby audience is that you've always got a real sense of the theatre loving tradition in this wonderful town! Yes, yes! This city and the people have all got a real deep love of the theatre arts and an appreciation for performing arts. You really sense a love of entertainment and performance, from a community that’s got history, a tradition of good entertainment. And there's just this magical atmosphere that radiates around the whole city, it’s something really special. It's in the way the city comes alive. There’s a sense of the festive; there’s that feeling that you can just relax and feel all that love and joy in the air. Just magic!
This place, though, is very special. And it has given me so many happy and colourful memories over the last couple of years. The best, is just being able to go out into the world and share the joy of the performance and inspire a few more people to reach for their own sequins. I just love showing off how gorgeous and how amazing pink tutus are and letting everyone know just how lovely they look, even with just a tiny little sparkle of pink in the middle.
Speaking of which, I've even started a whole Pink Tutu movement. It's so big that it’s all over social media, it’s taken off in the news! It's all over my website at www.pink-tutu.com.
The aim, obviously, is to get everyone in the world to wear pink tutus. I really believe, my dears, we can make it happen. We have to - you just have to have a little pink in your life - the world is better when everyone is in pink tutus! There's a reason for that. And don’t get me started on the amazing costumes!
So there you have it, a snippet of the glamorous and fun times I had at the beautiful city of Derby! Just remember, no matter where you are, there's always a sparkle waiting to be unleashed - and you'll need the perfect pink tutu to go with it! Keep those feathers fluffed, those sparkles shining, and always remember, darlings, the most important thing is to wear your heart on your tutu sleeve! 💖
See you soon!
Xoxo,
Pink Tutu Sparkles
