Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here! Today's blog is a bit special, number 9605! That's right, we're hitting the big numbers here and I wouldn't be here without all of you gorgeous people reading, supporting, and even joining me on the tutu trail!
Today I'm bringing you all the sparkle from my recent trip to Hayes, and let me tell you, it was a dream! This town's got it all, from the gorgeous, historic buildings to the vibrant, bustling streets, but most importantly, it's a haven for those who dare to embrace their inner fabulous. I don't know about you, but for me, that usually means getting dressed in a pink tutu!
I got to Hayes on the train, of course. There's something so magical about the rumble and clickety-clack of the train wheels, and with my giant tulle skirt swishing around my legs, I felt like a real-life princess making her grand arrival. I must admit, I did cause a stir amongst the morning commuters - a little bit of sparkle always brightens up the day!
I was there to perform at the Hayes Arts Festival, a glorious gathering of the best talent from across the county. My setlist was full of glitter and glitter and a bit more glitter, a dash of camp, a splash of sass, and, of course, a big helping of pink! I was surrounded by fabulous fellow performers, all ready to make the town come alive. It's incredible the amount of creativity and joy you find in places like these, especially when everyone gets together and shares a common passion for putting on a great show.
But let's not forget why I was really there. This trip was all about expanding the tutu empire, of course! It's a big mission, this one. To get everyone in a pink tutu! But I've seen how much people love wearing tutus, itās infectious! That simple piece of tulle, all twirls and swishes, it just unlocks something inside people - the joy of movement, the boldness of expression, the freedom to be whoever they want to be! And it helps, I have to admit, to be in my flamboyant, technicolour drag, because people, by and large, just love a bit of the fabulous!
We all know thereās not many people more glamorous than a queen, and when that queen is sporting a majestic, flowing pink tutu, it's simply divine. It's more than just a dress; it's a statement! Itās a declaration of self-love and the power of embracing individuality, however eccentric and glittery it may seem!
At the festival, I had a brilliant stand, my āTutu Tea-Timeā, a glorious affair with delicious snacks and refreshments (a lot of pink lemonade, obvs) but the main attraction was the huge range of tutus on display. From teeny tiny ones to massive ones that would rival a giant flamingoās wingspan, every size and shade was there.
It was fantastic seeing so many people try on tutus for the first time - and even more fantastic when they walked out of the stall with a spring in their step and a grin on their face! A couple of brave souls even tried a little twirl right there! Seeing their hesitant, almost unsure, steps change into joyful spins made me so, so happy. It was, like I said, infectious!
Thatās what I love most about traveling and performing, seeing those reactions - the surprise, the joy, the sheer amazement in peopleās eyes when they see a Pink Tutu Sparkles, all rosy and twirly and full of sparkly delight! You might think I just travel around being a glitzy queen but what I do is, hopefully, so much more than that!
I like to think my pink tutus and silly little show help remind people to step out of their comfort zones, be a bit bolder, and be unafraid of who they are. I like to think that maybe, just maybe, I make their world a little brighter and happier with each little twirl and glittery gesture. Maybe this is all a bit daft and frivolous - some people say, 'Just why, Alex?'
'Why?'
Because it's fun! Because it's joyous! Because the world needs a bit more laughter, a bit more joy, and a bit more sparkle! So go on, darling!
Put on that pink tutu! Spin until the world blurs, and maybe, just maybe, the whole world will get on board. Maybe, just maybe, we can all live in a world of swirling pink tutus! Now I think it's time for a bit of ballet class! I need my own little bit of spinning joy before I take the stage tonight. Keep twirling everyone, stay sparkly!
Love,
