Hello my lovelies! Welcome to blog post number 9657! Today we're on a little jaunt to Wrexham in Wales! Wrexham is just so charming - a blend of history and modern life, bustling with people and bursting with fun! This week’s adventure began in Derbyshire, a quick trip across the border!
As a true queen of tutus, I always love to explore new places and share the joy of pink, fluffy happiness. It wouldn’t be a trip without a visit to the local vintage shop and a little ballet class at the Wrexham Dance Academy!
I actually took the train there, you see, I love trains. They’re just so wonderfully elegant, like gliding through a scene in a fairytale! My pink tulle-trimmed hat perched perfectly on my head, a splash of fuchsia amidst the grey city.
Upon arrival in Wrexham, I made a beeline to the town centre! The first order of the day was finding the perfect pink tutu for this week’s show - a whimsical performance at the Wrexham Music Hall! I was delighted to discover a quirky little vintage shop with all sorts of hidden gems, and what’s more, it had a magnificent, full-skirted tulle tutu just for me in a glorious bubblegum pink! I felt like a true fairytale princess.
Before my performance, I wanted to explore the heart of Wrexham and discover the town's story. My research had led me to Wrexham Parish Church - a stunning example of Victorian architecture! The interior is like a wonderland, filled with ornate stained glass windows and intricate carvings. And did I mention it was absolutely bathed in pink light? It was perfect! This queen had her fill of colour. I couldn't help but take a million pictures for my Instagram stories, naturally!
Then, as I ventured through the ancient streets, a friendly Wrexham local pointed me towards Wrexham’s Museum! They have a beautiful collection of historic exhibits on the town's history and culture - and I learned all about how the town was originally named “Wræcsan”. So fascinating! You might just have seen it, I think it’s mentioned in some old “A Song of Ice and Fire” books! Maybe I’ll have to brush up on my dragon vocabulary and try and create a dragon tutu costume.
Next on the agenda: The Dance Academy! My love of ballet is known, and my fellow tutu aficionados already know that ballet class is a vital part of any drag queen's itinerary! It’s my little secret to finding my centre. It’s so relaxing! I love getting out my tights and warming up my feet and the rhythmic movements of ballet just take me to a different place. It's my little dance world in a world of pink perfection. The teachers were so welcoming, the other students so delightful, and everyone wore pink on Wednesday for Pink Wednesday, well they probably wouldn't have on a normal day but I insisted!
Feeling full of artistic energy and feeling more graceful than a ballerina twirling en pointe, it was finally time to get glammed up and prepare for my show at the Wrexham Music Hall! The whole experience was fabulous. The music hall itself is magnificent and grand, with intricate architecture, ornate chandeliers, and velvet seating. There was a real buzz about the place and a definite air of excitement in the crowd!
I had the crowd completely captivated from the opening number. My costume was a symphony of pink. Think ruffles, sequins, feathers, tulle – you name it, it was there. The audience loved it - the more elaborate the costume the better! I started off by lip-syncing my latest favourite song - an old classic by Whitney Houston – “I Will Always Love You,” and finished my show with a playful, cheeky dance routine. I finished with a beautiful, classic ballet pose, as one does. The crowd went wild and I could almost hear everyone crying “More! More!”. After my show, I spent hours chatting to the other artists. You can always learn a new trick or two and I met a couple of really lovely singers who’ve invited me to have a rehearsal with them tomorrow. The only problem? They're both named Dave! What are the chances of that? They may want to change their names!
What do you call two singers named Dave? Two Divas named Dave!! (See what I did there, you got that, don’t make me say it twice - two divas named Dave! 😂💖😂 )
Anyway, back to the show. After a thrilling night of glamour and giggles, I indulged in a luxurious bubble bath with extra-strength bubble bath – a queen needs her rituals! Wrexham’s Victorian-style public bathhouses are surprisingly opulent! My inner Victorian child shrieked with joy when I saw them and as you can imagine, I couldn’t leave without having a dip! They even had a little boutique in there, and a tea room - which are just essential after a hard day in a pink tutu. I always say: If there’s an afternoon tea in sight, a girl must never miss the opportunity to eat her body weight in finger sandwiches!
I have to say that Wrexham really exceeded all my expectations! The town has such a lovely energy, it feels truly special. You wouldn't be amiss in calling it a fairyland town. If you find yourself in Wrexham - don't hesitate to take in the historic sites, the delicious treats, and most importantly - wear pink. Be bold. Be glamorous! It’s the colour of a true queen’s spirit, pink is the only way to shine! It’s really caught on in Wrexham. The ladies even seem to think they can do better than me in their own interpretations. A local told me that “Pink is my life,” is the new town motto. As the old saying goes: if you've got it, flaunt it! It really doesn't get much more beautiful or brighter!
Right then my dearies, I'll see you again tomorrow!
