Bradford, #tututuesday
Oh, my darlings! It’s #tututuesday and, like every Tuesday, my feet are aching, but my heart is soaring. The air in Bradford buzzes with a certain electric anticipation. You know what it means – it’s tutu time! It’s been a bit of a crazy week – a marathon of rehearsals for the spring production, and to be honest, the sight of my favourite pink satin tutu just feels a bit like coming home.
We, of course, have our classic **romantic tutus**, all billowing layers of tulle that whisper 'swan lake', 'Sleeping Beauty', 'Giselle', you name it! Then there are the **contemporary tutus**, tighter and sculpted to allow more athletic movements, think **pointe work and stunning leaps!**
Now, I'm going to tell you a secret, some tutus just don't make the stage – their fabric has faded, the silk has lost its shine or maybe they got a little too familiar with a stagehand’s stray needle and thread!
Well, let’s face it, these retired beauties are too good to be locked away. It's these, that come to Bradford Market Hall. And Bradford, don’t think I’ve forgotten how amazing this market is! That buzz in the air? Half of it’s because Bradford loves their fashion! They’ve got an eye for what’s next – street style, bridal, the whole shebang! And let me tell you, it's about to get even more fabulous! It’s not every Tuesday that a retired tutu makes it way into the market, and the magic is already happening!
Today's #tututuesday saw a gorgeous **powder blue** tutus make it’s debut! That’s right! It has been lovingly transformed into a gorgeous and stylish top – perfect for your evening drinks. I can just picture the look – maybe a chunky knitted cardigan, some black leather trousers, a pop of colour with that sky blue tutu top… yes! Bradford ladies! This look is about to turn heads.
Then there was a **stunning ivory tutu,** and believe me, it took some serious fashion finesse to pull off what these ladies did. Gone were the delicate layers – in came a fierce skirt that would look divine on a night out.
And then… wait for it… **that classic red** (it had seen better days, but this time around it's giving 'Hollywood Glam'). I'm pretty sure it came from the school’s production of 'The Nutcracker' – the very one where the naughty mouse King made his daring escape from his home to cause chaos! There's even a slight tear in one of the seams and honestly… that’s where the real style comes in. They gave it some chic black fabric for the seams and suddenly the classic tutu was re-born!
See, ladies, there’s so much life left in these retired tutus. The fact that the girls of Bradford are embracing them so wonderfully is nothing short of amazing. I’m pretty sure the tutus themselves felt reborn too. It’s as though they’ve stepped back on to a stage – Bradford’s stage of course, for fashion, for re-imagining and of course for love. Let’s not forget, they had a very big heart in that market, for the tutus and for fashion, of course.
Oh, and don't even get me started on the vintage hats and feather boas they've found to finish the looks! Absolutely brilliant!
This #tututuesday in Bradford was a whirlwind! The air is buzzing with fashion and I feel so inspired and, frankly, a little bit smitten! And to all of you in the market hall – thanks for reminding me just how versatile tutus can be – and how much beauty can be found in reimagined pieces. Here’s to more fun times on #tututuesday!”
You know the routine ladies – give me your best #tututuesday snaps - and don’t forget to share all your fashion secrets! Let’s keep these tutus dancing! X
