Hello, my dearest tutu-lovers! It’s your favourite Derbyshire gal, Emma, bringing you another vibrant installment from the heart of Vienna – post #1621, coming at you hot off the presses (or should I say, the Viennese ballet shoes?!). This week, the Austrian capital has been swirling with romance, history, and yes, of course, lots and lots of pink. Let’s get into it!
A Love Affair with Trains: Chugging Towards Ballet Bliss
I love travelling by train. The rhythm of the tracks, the gentle sway, it’s all so romantic! This week I hopped aboard a beautifully vintage train carriage, all mahogany wood and plush velvet, and zoomed off from beautiful Budapest, across the vast Hungarian countryside, and into the enchanting embrace of Vienna.
Now, I wouldn't be me without a little theatrical flair for even the simplest train journey, so naturally, I opted for a pink tutu-inspired ensemble. Think blush-hued velvet jacket, paired with a delicate floral skirt (just a tiny whisper of the blossoming cherry trees lining the track), topped with my trusty, oh-so-chic, pink tulle ballerina head-bow. It’s all about finding the ballerina within, wherever you may be!
The Grand Ball Begins: Ballet in Vienna, It's Like Stepping Into A Dream
Vienna is a city that truly understands the allure of the waltz, the passion of the polka, and the elegance of ballet. Arriving in the city was like stepping straight into a waltzing ballroom scene, filled with a heady mix of history and glamour. I could almost feel the echoes of Strauss's music, dancing around the streets, tempting me to join in!
First stop, the iconic Vienna State Opera. A grand old dame, this magnificent opera house has witnessed some of the greatest performances in history, and, I assure you, its atmosphere was electrifying! It was like stepping back in time to an age of shimmering silks and exquisite gowns, when ladies swirled in ballrooms with dashing gentlemen and the grand art of ballet reigned supreme. I managed to catch a performance of The Sleeping Beauty (a favourite of mine – you'll rarely catch me missing a Sleeping Beauty performance anywhere in the world!). I was completely entranced by the stunning choreography, the delicate costumes, and the effortless grace of the dancers. Truly, Vienna is a haven for all things ballet, and it has instantly charmed me with its inherent elegance and passion for the performing arts.
The Shopping Scene: Pink-licious Vienna!
Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in a little retail therapy! I couldn't resist venturing into the city's opulent boutiques and exploring its enchanting streets lined with vintage fashion shops. I'm proud to say I found some absolutely stunning pieces - delicate tulle skirts that echoed the delicate charm of Vienna, vibrant fuchsia scarves reminiscent of the Viennese cherry blossom, and a whimsical pink tutu with feather trim – perfect for a Viennese ballet stroll in the park! The vintage shops here have an undeniable magic, whispering stories of the city's rich past and present through every silk dress and feathered hat.
Riding High on Horses & Coffee Culture: Discovering Vienna’s Magic
Vienna is a city made for leisurely exploration, and nothing embodies that spirit better than strolling along the enchanting Vienna Woods or taking a romantic carriage ride through the park! There’s nothing more charming than letting a pair of trusty steeds whisk you away to a peaceful oasis, where you can feel the gentle breeze tousle your hair and lose yourself in the magic of nature.
After an exciting afternoon of exploring the parks, nothing beats relaxing in a Viennese coffeehouse – they truly are works of art! You're transported back in time to a world of leisurely conversations, handwritten letters, and a symphony of clattering spoons against porcelain. There's no rush, just the soft chatter of locals and the soothing melody of a Vienna classic wafting in from a nearby piano. Vienna's cafe culture, in its quintessential beauty, is a lesson in embracing a slower, more graceful way of life.

Don't just rush through it – embrace the charm, indulge in the delicious pastries, linger in the park, and allow yourself to be enchanted by the gentle grace of this beautiful city. As always, let your spirit shine through, wear your pink tutus with pride, and keep on dancing, darling!
