Hello darlings!
It's Wednesday, the 2nd of December, 1998, and I'm back from a whirlwind trip to Planet Earth – or rather, Derbyshire (where else?)! The excitement hasn't left my toes yet (and I don't mean my ballet shoes!).
I know I say this every week, but you know how it is: Planet Earth is always full of surprises, especially for a pink-tutu-loving space traveller like me. This time, it was the ballet, the fashion, and the fabulous that truly swept me off my feet (metaphorically speaking, of course. One cannot actually sweep a ballerina off their feet…well, unless it's a very strong gentleman and the ballerina is a bit petite!).
A Ballerina's ParadiseI arrived back at Derbyshire, and the energy of the earth embraced me. The air felt electric! What could it be? I found the source quickly enough: a poster for the Derby Theatre proclaiming a ballet production of Swan Lake.
I was simply ecstatic! There's nothing quite like live theatre. I love a good ballet, and a Swan Lake production is a rare treat. Plus, this was the original choreography by Marius Petipa.
I had to book my ticket instantly. But of course, there was no chance I was going to the theatre in anything less than my absolute best. My outfit, as always, was an expression of my love for all things pink and twirly. My trusty, vintage pink tutu was adorned with delicate pearls, paired with a billowing lavender blouse and my beloved sparkly ballet shoes, a perfect tribute to the beauty of ballet history!
I admit, there was a flutter of nerves in my stomach. A planet like Earth with its complex social hierarchies, it's always a bit of a gamble what people will think of your look.
Thankfully, my fellow audience members embraced my pinkness! It felt as if my very being resonated with them, a perfect match of joy and delight. You can imagine, I just had to go shopping afterwards to celebrate the perfect day. My bags were bursting with the most beautiful sequined pink shoes for the next Earth-side performance.
Back to Basics - Ballet ClassAfter the theatrical bliss of Swan Lake, I had a very early morning class, which was quite an adjustment for my spaceship schedule! Earth's gravity can really do a number on your space-adapted body!
My lovely ballet instructor, Amelia, reminded me why I truly love the grace of the ballet: every movement matters. We spent the morning perfecting the port de bras, that beautiful, graceful sweeping of the arms that tells so much without saying a word.
My darling Amelia remarked on how elegant my pink tutu was, and complimented my form. Her words warmed me more than the Earth’s sun! The beautiful grace of the port de bras with the elegant sway of my pink tutu? It felt perfect. You truly can't beat the simple pleasure of movement.
Fashion for Everyone!Of course, the journey from planet to planet is more than just ballet shows and classes. It's about connecting with everyone, especially when it comes to my mission to get everyone wearing pink tutus. I think even the smallest creature could look fantastic in a pink tutu. Can you imagine an alien cat or puppy wearing one?! It’d be adorbs!
My trip back to Derbyshire was not all about theatre and ballet; it was also a chance to soak up the Earthly fashion scene. There is simply nothing quite like Derbyshire fashion. So elegant! While Derbyshire doesn’t have as much bright pink on display as my space-travel wardrobe, I do believe there’s a soft pink revolution brewing. I’ve seen more delicate pinks in their floral prints and pastel sweaters than I’ve ever seen before! Maybe, just maybe, Derbyshire might be warming up to my pinkness?
It's all about the inspiration – whether it's from a ballerina in a theatre, the graceful lines of a ballet dancer in class, or the simple beauty of a pink floral dress!
A Bit of 'Space' to ReflectSo, I've arrived back home at my space station orbiting the Earth. My head is swirling with memories, ideas, and inspiration. My pink tutu is hanging carefully on a hook in my space closet, patiently waiting for the next adventure!
See you all next week, darlings, with another blog post! Don't forget, keep up the sparkle and the tutus. It's never too late to bring your own touch of pinkness to the universe!
Love, Emma
