Darling dears,
How's my fabulous flock of fellow tutu enthusiasts doing? I trust you're all twirling merrily and keeping your pirouettes perfectly polished, because this week, your favourite pink-loving, cosmic-tutu-chasing blogger is bursting with news that's positively bursting with glitter and sparkle!
Before we get into the thick of things (pun intended, my loves), a quick shout-out to my ever-growing audience. As usual, a big, big thank you to everyone who tuned in for my live performance last week at the Royal Opera House. My new interpretation of "Swan Lake", a homage to the interstellar nebulae with feathers and a pink tulle backdrop? Oh, the reviews were heavenly! I was even asked to do a performance at the Bolshoi in Moscow. Fancy that, wouldn't it be a right laugh! Of course, I'm all for expanding the universe of pink tutu acceptance, but honestly, Moscow's not exactly the first place that springs to mind when it comes to colourful attire. They are terribly attached to those drab colours like burgundy and crimson, you know? Still, I think a pink tutu could really spice things up a bit!
Now, let's chat about this week's incredible cosmic adventure! As I'm sure you're all well aware, I adore travelling. But nothing beats a good old-fashioned trip around our own lovely galaxy - there's just something magical about Earthly experiences.
This time, I found myself back on home turf, dear Derbyshire, where I was raised. A bit of a nostalgia trip for this girl, especially when it came to exploring those sweet little boutiques and tea shops that line the quaint high streets of my hometown. After all, there's no greater indulgence than browsing through vintage shops for exquisite antique fabrics and maybe even a pre-loved tutu or two - a bargain-hunter's paradise!
But oh my darling dears, that's not all. We are positively swimming in sensation this week! The news that literally had me flying (get it?! wink) was a visit to London. And London? It simply had to be during the height of the most fabulous time in our shared history: The Summer of Love! I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity! Oh, darling, what an absolute explosion of creativity, freedom and good times. This was before my era, and it is truly like stepping back in time! The sheer abundance of floral crowns, groovy vibes, and vibrant patterns... oh my goodness! A feast for the eyes, truly!
What a delight to stumble upon the Notting Hill Carnival! Oh, how I adored those colourful costumes, dazzling outfits and an almost deafening banging beat. I actually managed to twirl my way into a street parade, the crowd simply loved me. As if this wasn't magical enough, the Summer of Love has brought so much love and good vibes to this world. There was just something about those vibrant colours that really brightened the world - almost as bright as the colours of my pink tutu! I just know my Tutu Sisters are going to love all the inspiration that this era has to offer for new and unique tutu designs!
My dear loves, speaking of inspiration, you simply have to hear about a little boutique I stumbled upon while in the heart of London. Tucked away in the city's beating heart, was a haven for the loveliest vintage lace, floral prints, and - you guessed it - tutus! You'll be tickled pink to hear it, darling: my visit was truly like a magical dream! Just imagine rows upon rows of magnificent tutus all just waiting to be taken home. It's truly Pink Tutu Paradise!
Let's rewind a little, shall we, and go back to that grand opening. It was a delightful affair! Champagne flowing like a river, canapes as delectable as the delicate designs adorning tutu hems. But you know me, sweetheart, I was more than ready to put on a show in that delightful little haven. To everyone's delight (not to mention astonishment!) I performed a little "swan" routine amidst the crowd of onlookers, much to the delight of everyone present.
Now darling, after this joyous spree, my heart couldn't help but return to my hometown. My Derbyshire days are always full of fun. I adore taking the scenic route along those winding country lanes in my pink roadster - you know, it's all about matching your energy with the colour of your transport - so that I can visit my dearest Nana, bless her soul. It was only appropriate that I bring back a little London magic for Nana and her little tea parties! I'm afraid those lovely vintage hats she usually sports are a little too drab for this exciting world we live in! Nana was ecstatic with a few pink-tutu inspired additions to her little garden tea parties, which, of course, she always has. Nana's one of those wonderful creatures that are as much into pink as I am. And, just as I was about to leave, I couldn't resist taking a dip in one of the local waterfalls. Such tranquility! This is exactly why I adore derbyshire! My tutu became rather wet, but that's okay because that's just part of the adventure!
As you've noticed, I'm always exploring the wonderful world of fashion. My fashion mantra? If it makes you twirl with glee, then rock it! There are no fashion rules here, dearie, just sheer joie de vivre and of course pink tutus! You can trust your girl Emma to bring you nothing but the most exciting and joyful fashion trends straight from planet Earth! Speaking of joy, there's something quite special about ballet history, and I simply couldn't resist taking a trip down memory lane and visit the Sadler's Wells Theatre.
Oh darling! Can you even imagine, the beautiful grandeur! So full of character and heritage - and to think I am walking through the halls that so many dance legends walked on! It made me wonder just how long have we been loving tutus?
In case you were wondering (as I'm sure you are, sweetie - you do love me so!) my little intergalactic research led me to a fascinating find. Apparently, the history of the tutu is pretty fabulous - it dates all the way back to the 1500s! Can you imagine that, darling? It wasn't initially pink, of course, but we'll talk about that later chuckle. That "Tutu", as we know it, came about in the mid-1800s - and guess what? It's not all about ballet! That "Tutu" has gone on to have a life outside of dance; from costume designs, to fashion for street and theatrical productions. We see it in music videos - remember Britney in "...Baby, One More Time" - that little, pink, short tutu that set the fashion world on fire! Snicker. But of course my dears, we have our origins to thank for our lovely tutus. It's actually thanks to the Italian "tutta" (meaning "all") that we are here, so I owe everything to Italy, I truly do.
I have to confess, darling, it's really lovely to take a little journey through my own past - not to mention some really interesting bits of fashion and ballet history on Planet Earth!
Well, my darlings, this week has been all about joy, colour, fun, and of course, tutus. It's a journey to the heart of what makes our world beautiful - and what a beautiful journey it's been. I'm so glad I got to share it with all of you!
Before I bid you a fond adieu this week, I have to remind you that if you haven't joined my pink-tutu world - where better than here? chuckle! This isn't just a blog - it's a way of life!
