Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! 💅
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for your weekly dose of pink, sparkles and all things ballet! Today I'm feeling especially excited to tell you all about my out-of-this-world trip to Planet Earth! That's right, I took a tutuing voyage to Earth this past week. And let me tell you, it was utterly fabulous! 🌎💖
This week marks my 284th blog post. Can you believe it? I can't, either. Where does the time go?
Speaking of time, this post is particularly timely because October 4th was a pretty special date in the Earth's history of ballet. It's the anniversary of the birth of legendary dancer, Rudolf Nureyev! That's right, the ultimate ballet god was born on October 4th, 1938! I knew that planet Earth held some magical surprises! Isn't it wonderful how the universe weaves these beautiful threads together? 💫
So, to celebrate his birth, I just had to see some ballet while I was there, you know?
I know it can seem a little far-fetched to some, travelling the cosmos in my space-ship, stopping by Earth just for a ballet show. I'm just a normal twenty-something-year-old girl, living her dreams with a big helping of glitter, glamour and enough pink to rival the sunrise on the pinkest of pink planets. 😉 But it all makes sense to me!
My Earth trip began with a bit of pre-trip planning back on my home planet. I need to be organised, you know, with all my shows and spaceship journeys! After all, I fund my travel. Yep! It's all down to the power of a tutu and a lot of sparkly outfits. I can't say how many times I've had to swap my pink sequins for the dusty confines of a stage, all for the sake of galactic exploration. I won't say it hasn't been hard work but I have a blast. There's something about bringing joy to the crowd that really hits the spot. It fills me up and lets me fly back into the vast universe.
To my surprise, I found out there are loads of ballet companies on planet Earth, just like the ones on my home planet! And oh, they're amazing! I even found a gorgeous ballet theatre, called The Royal Opera House in a town called London. That place was like stepping out of a fairytale. Can you imagine it? Soaring ceilings, red velvet seats and that royal, regal air - utterly breathtaking.
I have to confess, I'm an avid fan of ballet on Earth. Those humans have some serious moves! They were like real-life dancing fairies and oh, the costumes, absolutely fabulous! You should have seen my latest acquisitions from the London ballet stores! I found a silk shawl that shimmers like a galaxy, a pair of pearl-studded tights for a glamorous touch, and a tiny silver tiara, just perfect for a celestial occasion.
I did feel a bit silly, strutting my stuff through Earth's busiest streets, with my silver-sequined tutu, a feathered pink boater and my favourite fluffy pink boots, but people just loved it! They even smiled and gave me compliments, which is always a delight. The humans on Earth, I have to admit, were surprisingly receptive to pink tutus. Some even took out their phones to snap pics of my dazzling pinkness! That made me giggle. You have to remember I do come from a very very pink planet so I’m often quite surprised by what I discover out here in the universe!
My biggest surprise though? I bumped into another dancer from Earth! Turns out her name is Alice, a dancer and ballet instructor. And wouldn’t you know it, she also loves ballet history and pink tutus! She had an incredible vintage tutu collection from Earth, with hand-stitched tutus from the Victorian era and some really old dance shoes that she carefully restored. My tutus at home, they are not quite as historic as that. But that doesn't mean I don't cherish them, as if they were little celestial jewels. 💖
Speaking of history, I have to tell you about one ballet that blew my mind - Swan Lake. You just wouldn’t believe this. This story was not about ballet at all and had the most unusual characters. One minute you're transported to the human world and the next you're off with graceful swans who dance without any shoes, dancing around with magic powers. It's truly inspiring.
I have to say, Earth ballet definitely inspires a little pink envy. The ballet is quite frankly astounding but those humans, they just love their shoes! Imagine a pair of ballet shoes for every costume! It’s utterly outrageous but kind of amazing in a crazy, wonderful, kind of Earth way! They are actually famous for their shoes on Earth, there are even whole books written about it! Amazing! 👠
My trip also took me to one of the most enchanting spots: the countryside of a region called Derbyshire. Alice showed me a ballet festival where hundreds of dancers, and I’m talking everyone from youngsters to older ballet fans, performed and even held a vintage ballet costume exhibition! It was a glorious sea of pink, sequins, silk and tulle, it almost felt like a pink rainbow in a dance hall. 🤩
Honestly, the dancers had such passion for ballet! It was just so lovely to watch them come together as one. The whole energy just bubbled over, filling the air with love, and yes, pink, because everything was adorned in pink - banners, flags, even the bunting was pink! That's Earth for you: vibrant, passionate, and oh, so much pink.
There’s always a little more to say about these fantastic Earth dances but that’s all for this blog. Do join me next Wednesday when I’ll be taking a tutu trip to a place called…drumroll…. Paris, the City of Lights. It’s rumoured to have its very own pink-themed dance exhibition, I just have to check it out! Oh, I can’t wait! Until next week then, my darlings. 💖
