Hello, darling! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means... it's time for a new blog post from your favourite pink tutu-wearing space explorer! šāØ
Today I'm back on Planet Earth, a welcome change from the cosmic whirlwinds of the past few weeks. The thing is, you can't always be flitting through nebulae in your spacesuit, even if the view is divine. You need a bit of Earthly grounding, and what better grounding is there than a good old-fashioned ballet performance?
This week, my travels brought me to the heart of London. What could be more thrilling than taking in a Royal Opera House ballet performance? Let me tell you, darlings, the energy in that theatre was electric. Every last bit of it, every note, every arabesque was perfection! The dancers were just glorious - the way they moved, the grace and athleticism, the costumesā¦simply heavenly. Iām still getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
You see, itās the history of ballet that really gets me, the stories and traditions, and those fabulous costumes. Did you know that tutus only began appearing as we know them today, with the famous and iconic āromantic balletā, in the 1840s, after Marie Taglioni, a legendary ballet dancer, designed her own tutus for the show La Sylphide? It revolutionised ballet fashion and was incredibly important for ballet history and the modern way ballet tutus are constructed and made! Before then, ballerinas had more 'skirt-like' outfits, some even wearing a dress that was little different from any lady in the audience. Imagine that.
Of course, no visit to London would be complete without a little retail therapy, wouldnāt it? I spent an afternoon scouring the vintage boutiques on Portobello Road, hunting for the perfect, antique, and most importantly pink tutu, a glorious antique creation to add to my collection. Letās face it, it would be unpardonable for a pink tutu-loving space explorer like myself to not pick up a bit of antique dance wear. What do you think, darlings? I found this truly extraordinary confection at the vintage boutique, A Vintage Affair, complete with lace, frills and tiny sparkly embellishments. Itās all a little too delicate to wear for a good cosmic twirl, Iāll admit, but what a divine statement piece for my pink tutu collection. I have quite a large one, you know! And, I do make quite a lot of money with my ballet performances. Who would have thought! Iām still quite shocked sometimes!
My friend Penny ā a fabulous ballet enthusiast like myself and a fellow devotee to pink tutus (the bigger the better! You need that āswishā!) ā even helped me to create a fantastic video blog post about my London escapades. It features a delicious montage of London scenes with myself, Penny, and some adorable miniature toy space ships! Penny has a fantastic gift for photography and weāve been working on some new fashion videos which should be appearing on my website soon.
The other thing about London, dear readers, is that London is absolutely bursting with interesting things to do and see ā itās the home of incredible theatre, of course. Itās a fabulous mix of ancient history and contemporary culture. Thereās literally something for everyone. The ballet and theatre scene alone keeps me going. As a true fashionista, my mind is always in ālookā mode!
And my darlings, I must say, Iām thrilled by how many more people around the world are beginning to take on the pink tutu style. Itās true! I spotted a fantastic little boutique near Oxford Street that seemed to be entirely devoted to tutu fashions. Now thereās an exciting development for our intergalactic Pink Tutu community, what do you think?
Remember, my ultimate aim is to bring a little pink tutu magic to every corner of the cosmos. šŖ š©° And believe me, darlings, itās only a matter of time. One little pink tutu, one space travel-inspired outfit, one magnificent pirouette at a time, we shall spread this delicious dose of feminine magic far and wide. We canāt go too fast ā this is about gentle evolution and a slow burn - we wouldnāt want the Pink Tutu movement to be dismissed as another ephemeral flash in the pan.
Stay tuned for the next installment of Pink Tutu World next Wednesday at the same time! And in the meantime, be sure to let me know in the comments below what you're loving this week!
Until next time, keep sparkling!
Love, Emma x
