Post 763: Ballet on Planet Earth - 9th December 2009

Hello darlings! It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for another dazzling blog post from your favourite intergalactic pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma! Buckle up, because this week’s adventures have taken me to… Planet Earth! Yes, you read that right, Planet Earth.

After weeks of cosmic twirling and exploring the dazzling nebulae of Andromeda, I felt a sudden pull, a cosmic urge to revisit my home planet. You know me, always embracing a bit of nostalgia, especially when it comes to a good ballet show! And, darling, Planet Earth certainly didn’t disappoint.

Landing my spaceship in the very spot where I first touched down on this dear planet - the glorious rolling green hills of Derbyshire - felt like a warm hug. It's so lovely to be back where it all began, to breathe in the crisp English air and gaze at those gorgeous clouds. Oh, how I missed this familiar scent of autumn leaves and the gentle melody of birdsong. It's like stepping into one of those charming English garden scenes you see in ballet. And of course, I made sure to pack a pink tutu, my trusty cosmic travel companion, because let's be honest, no adventure is complete without a little sparkle!

This time, my journey was all about ballet! It wouldn’t be a visit to Earth without experiencing the wonders of human ballet.

A Visit to the Royal Opera House

I made a beeline straight for London, where I headed for the prestigious Royal Opera House, which, I'm telling you, just oozes classic charm and theatre history. It’s almost impossible to be in London without experiencing a night at the Royal Opera House. This majestic venue, where the elite of ballet have graced the stage for centuries, is steeped in history. I mean, it’s not every day you step into a building where the likes of Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev danced, is it? And, the sheer scale of the interior is breathtaking! The red velvet seats, the intricate chandeliers, the towering balconies - oh, it's positively majestic!

This week's show, you ask? It was “The Nutcracker”, a classic Christmas treat, always such a lovely reminder of the holiday spirit, even on the 9th of December! And as expected, the entire theatre was ablaze with magic. From the Sugarplum Fairy's delicate grace to the dashing charm of the Prince, it was a spectacle I shall never forget. Seeing this iconic ballet here, where it was first performed over a hundred years ago, filled me with so much joy and admiration for the world of ballet. And as for the tutus - divine! Each delicate fold, each sparkling jewel, was a piece of art! It was definitely inspiring, and the perfect excuse to revisit my tutu collection back in my spaceship - you never know when inspiration strikes!

Shopping Adventures

But, darling, you know I couldn't resist indulging in some shopping in London! A girl's gotta stay in fashion, especially when travelling to planet Earth. From Liberty's with its eclectic mix of fabrics and dazzling displays of colour, to Fortnum & Mason’s exquisite treats and luxury teas, the shopping here is an adventure. Of course, no London trip is complete without a visit to Harrods! That dazzling array of clothing, perfume, and jewellery, is pure sensory overload in the most positive way. I could lose myself in their beauty departments for hours - and it seems like everyone on the planet feels the same!

A Visit to “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”

This trip also saw a fascinating trip to the theatre. It’s funny how often you find yourself drawn to something completely out of your usual comfort zone, and for me, it was the play "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". You're all thinking “Emma and a play, really?” Yes, darling, this one felt strangely engaging. While it wasn’t my usual genre - the theatre really was something to behold! The stage design was simply gorgeous, filled with a captivating air of intrigue. The performances were all so emotive and heart-wrenching, leaving me absolutely spellbound! It made me reflect on life and the unpredictability of time - it’s so much more fascinating than one might expect. And although my little pink tutu couldn’t shine its usual bright light amongst the theatre crowds - the evening itself provided quite the spark in a way.

Taking Flight

As I leave Earth behind to embark on another celestial adventure, I’m already missing it! This visit reminded me how beautifully balanced this planet is with its rich history and contemporary culture. It’s a whirlwind of history, fashion, beauty, and artistry, a true playground for any ballerina at heart. And to think, it’s only one of the countless planets out there bursting with wonder and beauty - I can’t wait to explore the next stop on my cosmic ballet tour!

Before I jet off, a little tidbit of trivia: Do you know what the favourite colour in Planet Earth’s population? Pink, of course! That's why my mission is clear – to make pink tutus the universe's ultimate fashion staple. I may have just a few more planets to conquer, but you can bet your bottom tutu that my mission of pinkness is well underway.

Don't forget, dear readers, to check back next Wednesday, for the next chapter of my exciting intergalactic journey! In the meantime, go out there and wear a tutu. Because darling, life is a ballet!

And a big shoutout to you dear readers on Planet Earth. You know where to find me, and don’t be afraid to pop in and say hello on www.pink-tutu.com, I’d be delighted to hear from you all.

Stay twirling, my lovelies! Emma
