Darling, you wouldn't believe the absolute whirlwind this week has been! It all started with the most magical performance in the history of performances - Ballet in the Big Apple - I know, right? I swear, every time I say that it gets even more amazing, and that's saying something because, honestly, I thought it couldn't be topped!
Anyway, after I wowed the crowd with my custom pink tutu, emblazoned with miniature sparkling apples (a bit on the nose, I know, but I can't resist a good theme, can I?) and performed the most stunning rendition of "Swan Lake" you've ever seen, I grabbed a quick slice of pizza - I wasn't hungry, I just felt like the delicious cheesy carbs would perfectly round out my amazing evening - and zipped off to my spaceship, ready to beam back to my home planet. I must tell you, space travel is not the easiest for a girl with my passion for couture. You see, there are those awful pesky radiation belts that, well, just wrinkle your tulle, darling. So I was quite delighted to find a local seamstress, wearing a delightful neon yellow power suit, mind you, who made me the most glorious cosmic-inspired tulle travel bag, that I just can't wait to show you all. And trust me, this blog wouldn't be Pink Tutu World without you lovely lot. After all, it's not all about pink tutus, but who it's with.
Speaking of which, it's Wednesday! And you know what that means? Yep, another fantastic new post about ballet history and tutu lore - all the lovely deets on the history of pointe shoes, the latest tutu trends, the stories of our ballerina icons, and, of course, how you too can rock that graceful elegance from the theatre stage to the galactic shopping mall. Oh, the universe is such a fashionably exciting place, isn't it?
But first, a quick update about my travels. Because after a super quick breakfast of space-aged protein smoothie and a quick costume change (don't want to get that sparkly apple tutu dusty, you know!) I had the amazing privilege to fly (oh, yes, flew, darling, literally!) into the majestic snow-capped Alps for some breathtaking views and stunning vintage tutu hunting. It's hard to find authentic Victorian era pink tulle tutus with perfect diamond detailing and, honestly, it's one of my most loved searches. It's the best feeling knowing that, yes, we are connected to ballet history, the story of women taking centre stage and making their own path through time. I know I might not be able to wear one for a routine, it's the most delicate fabric imagine, so fragile but so beautiful! Every ballerina should own at least one, even just as an inspiration piece, a reminder that this lovely ballet culture of grace, elegance and artistry is worth keeping alive.
As a result of the trip (and my amazing, pink tutu powered bargain-hunting skills!) I scored a glorious antique ballet-inspired vintage top, perfect for the ballerina on the go, and a stunning velvet shawl in my favourite shade of dusty rose! The vintage store owner told me the shawl was once owned by Margot Fonteyn, oh darling, the glamour, the excitement! Now that was the perfect excuse to fly right back to planet Earth and my fabulous collection, but before I jetted off, I simply had to visit my new favourite vintage tutu and costume shop - the absolute cutest owner with a glorious pink-tinged poodle with a tutu of her own. I know what you're thinking! A pink tutu poodle, genius! The only problem was the price tag, let me tell you. Oh, darling, this little guy needed a custom spaceship! And my little ballet bag, oh dear, couldn't take a furry, feathery friend along! I couldn't leave, so I told him he had to fly with me to the galactic flea market and try his luck with his little dog. It was a close call! I almost missed my flight, and I swear, the owner wouldn't have been a happy poodle without me. We both had to run a short distance through the mountainside - my platform heels, you know. But honestly, when you're a pink tutu-wearing space traveller, the only things you'll find more glamorous than the scenery are fabulous shoes! Oh my darling, those shoes should be immortalized, with a proper history documented and an entire space ship dedicated to just the soles - or rather heels. Oh, what a story they'd tell. But let's talk fashion and Planet Earth - I'm dying to catch that fabulous new dance drama production - 'Footloose!'"
Of course, you already know, I don't leave the house without the perfect tutu. And let me tell you, finding the right look was the absolute ultimate tĂȘte-Ă -tĂȘte between me and my favourite vintage fabric stores, my custom designers and well, let's be honest darling, my incredible ballet bag! My newest look - and, of course, it's all in pink! It has to be for 'Footloose'! A light pink silk with sparkly embellishments inspired by the original "Footloose" movie poster. That gorgeous blue jeans look is timeless, darling. I managed to get a custom top with a ballet inspired bodice that's super elegant and fitted and some glorious fluffy pink socks - don't you love those little ballerina socks?! They are just so charming. But what would a perfect pink tutu look be without a custom designed handbag to complete it? Why, it wouldn't exist! That's the perfect mix of dance elegance, classic charm and that oh so divine vintage feel! My little shopping trip did take a little bit longer than planned - I always get caught up chatting about everything to do with pink, tutu and, naturally, fashion - you know how it is, I couldn't resist sharing my love with some lovely girls in the most delightful little shop in Leicester Square. Oh, London! You always bring the sparkle and the magic, I just adore it!
Oh darling, I almost forgot! What could be better than seeing 'Footloose!?' - how exhilarating! I know exactly what to wear and it all fits in with the exciting look for the latest Planet Earth blog entry! It was almost difficult for me to keep the fashion police at bay as I strutted from my favourite, vintage shopping finds shop, to my spaceship and then straight to a very special private showing of "Footloose." A little pink tutu treat!* Let's be honest, I may be a world renowned pink tutu ballerina but sometimes a bit of "me" time in the privacy of the private theatre is needed. Now, if youâre thinking "What makes this particular screening so special?" darling, you would just be so incredibly amazed. My oh my, the world of private screenings in Planet Earth is as glamorous and wonderful as I imagined. Now, where else can you sit back with the most glamorous champagne and chocolate, with a special show for yourself with amazing seating and, of course, some delicious nibbles all to yourself in a private theatre - a special kind of theatre royalty, if you will, right?
Oh darling, you just had to be there to see the most lovely "Footloose!" It's amazing, the storyline is quite wonderful, and there were some excellent dance routines. There were twirls galore, and oh, it reminded me that, yes, you can do anything! I mean, I always knew that but watching those wonderful performances was such an amazing kick up the derriere, if you will! I even managed to snap a couple of shots with the stars after the show - we're practically friends now, the glamour is so real, darling! The stars even admired my "Footloose"-inspired look. You'd be surprised how many fans you can make just by dressing in pink and twirling!
Anyway, I canât believe how quickly the day has flown by, and how many lovely things Iâve managed to fit in! And as you can probably guess, darling, my ballet performance and show are always, always on my calendar, and I just had to bring back a special performance for all my loyal readers! The perfect ballet, in a private theatre? The Pink Tutu Footloose Routine:- The âWelcome to the Universeâ Entree:
This elegant move welcomes our journey with an entrance in the spotlight that will blow you away! It all begins with an elegant sweeping curve through a wide split - the signature pink tutu swirl - as the pink tulle spins with you, you will look spectacularly beautiful - I even recommend some delicate pearls and sparkling details in the pink tulle! But please, be careful. My dear, you will make every space voyager, and earthling swoon. Don't worry if you're new to splits - try a side split or a leg extension - the magic is all in the beautiful dance and, naturally, your spectacular, shimmering pink tulle. *You have to imagine this, itâs glorious! *
"I'm Going to Cut Loose, Dance! " "Footloose" Spin:
Now, darling, we really must make an amazing, twirling and captivating introduction with this delightful spinning technique! Now this is one of the moves to totally amaze all the dancers on Planet Earth. It's a spin and twist around with the music. You could imagine that little space explorer in the little dance shop that we flew in to see, his little dog was looking at this ballet from his box as he watched me - with so many amazing steps! But this routine has everything, it has an amazing twirl with a graceful kick out - yes, we want it a bit high (not too high for those earth bound readers - we'll give you a safety lesson in the next blog!) Now add in some sparkling, ballet inspired "Footloose" shoes - they are the absolute ultimate combination for any dance. Just be sure to give them a few steps before you start. I think of these amazing shoes and think - *it is the look - yes, that's the look and a pink tulle ballerina needs it. So glamorous!
âFootloose Ballet Jumpsâ with Pink Tutu Ballet Moves:
Okay darling, we're about to take it to another level of pure pink tutu ballerina wonder - 'Footloose' with a 'Pink Tutu' touch. Now what you'll do here, my dear, is imagine the tutus dancing on their own! We know that every step - and this is a very important step, darling - every step is all in the detail of the dance. It's a graceful elegance and it needs a certain amount of practice. And with the "Footloose" jumps you need some real talent - don't you dare push too hard or jump too high (though, please don't be afraid to go for it, just go with a beautiful pink tutu and let those leg extensions fly.)
- *The "Pink Tutu and the Sparkling Galactic Finale: *
Now, this is the final dance and our ending note, my lovely readers! We need that dazzling, glittery and absolutely beautiful look that tells a story of dancing to the stars!
