Hello my darlings! It's Friday, which means it's time for a brand new Pink Tutu Blog London post! This week, I packed my most fabulous pink tutu (it's a new one, with delicate hand-sewn pearl embellishments!), grabbed my trusty ballet bag (it holds my pointe shoes and a surprisingly large amount of makeup!), and set off from Derbyshire on a gloriously sunny morning, bound for the big smoke!
For me, a journey by train is a vital part of any trip. It’s a chance to unwind, catch up on some reading (I’m obsessed with Jane Austen at the moment!), and, of course, plan out my London adventure! And there's something about the rhythmic clack of the wheels and the view rushing by that makes me feel wonderfully alive!
Reaching Kings Cross Station is always such a thrill. You know how much I adore the history and the architecture of London. Kings Cross has that magical mix of old and new, a place where time seems to stand still even as the world whizzes past outside. And, yes, I have stood on platform 9 3/4 with a pretend wand (don’t judge!).
Once settled into my favourite hotel – a charming boutique spot with pastel-hued rooms – I was off! I have to say, London is like an enormous open stage where every corner is brimming with things to discover! I have an innate desire to discover London’s hidden treasures - it’s an exploration in pink!
Morning Delights in Notting Hill
For my first stop, I headed straight for Notting Hill, a vibrant and colourful corner of London that always puts a spring in my step. The cobblestone streets, the quirky boutiques and the charming cafes painted with vibrant colours reminded me of a whimsical movie set. You can’t help but smile when you walk through here, and that's what London does to you - it fills you with life, with colour!
Now, any true fashionista knows that a trip to London isn't complete without a shopping spree. And I have a little confession: I am completely smitten with the delightful little boutiques tucked away on Portobello Road. I’m not a big fan of chain stores - it's the independent gems, bursting with unique style, that really capture my attention. This morning, I snagged the most beautiful coral pink silk scarf – a perfect touch for a balletic spin! Of course, I indulged in a decadent cappuccino from the "Notting Hill Bookshop Cafe” while sipping and scheming for my next vintage find. I'm pretty sure they serve their cappuccinos with a side of literary inspiration!
Lunch in Soho
The next stop on my Pink Tutu journey was Soho. This vibrant and energetic neighbourhood has so much to offer. From the coolest independent record shops, to the quirkiest cafes and trendy restaurants, I felt like a kid in a candy shop! I took a long wander down Carnaby Street, absorbing the eclectic mix of fashion. My heart was singing. Soho always inspires my inner rebel, the tutu-wearing, pink-loving, vintage-searching dreamer in me.
I found myself lunching on a rainbow pasta dish at “Emilia’s,” tucked away in a secret corner of the vibrant Kingly Court. This is one of the coolest spaces I’ve ever seen - a mini open-air haven, brimming with buzzing energy! The pasta was perfect - perfectly al dente, full of colour, just like the pink-tutu-wearing dancer I am at heart!
The Majesty of the Royal Opera House
After lunch, I walked a short distance to my favourite place in the world. There's a certain magic that only a place like the Royal Opera House can conjure up! I am mesmerized by the exquisite craftsmanship, the opulent architecture, the sheer presence of the theatre itself, and I have been here many times for ballet. But this time, my purpose was different. This week, I was excited to take a behind-the-scenes tour! As someone who considers themselves a ballerina in my own way, walking in the footsteps of history - the footprints of famous ballerinas, famous choreographers - it was thrilling.
Walking into the magnificent auditorium felt like stepping into a fairy tale. From the glistening chandelier above to the plush red velvet seating, the entire theatre radiates history and magnificence. And, to actually step on the stage itself… My little tutu-clad heart skipped a beat! It’s hard not to dream when you stand where so many brilliant dancers have made their dreams come true!
My journey through the intricate passages and the hidden work spaces behind the scenes was pure wonder. Imagine, learning the secrets behind the magic! Seeing the intricate costumes hanging, the makeup and wig preparation - I felt myself fall even more deeply in love with this beautiful art form.
The backstage world was something else, brimming with creative energy, just like the ballet performances I've been fortunate to experience. The Royal Opera House – what an amazing place, what a historical, creative, iconic landmark!
Dancing on the Thames
As the sun began its graceful descent, painting the sky with hues of peach and lavender (always a perfect pink moment for a ballet fan!), I found myself gazing across the river. As always, it was a spectacle, the Thames glittering under the golden sky. And I thought about the iconic Tower Bridge. I had to do it - I wanted to cross the iconic landmark! I donned my pinkest tutu – the one with the layers of silk that swish with every movement. I spun and twirled. It was like my own personal ballet performance with the Thames as my stage. I imagined myself dancing across the bridge, every movement telling a story, every twirl a moment of joy.
Dinner Under the Stars at Borough Market
Now, you all know that my perfect evening consists of two things: ballet and delicious food. Tonight, both happened at Borough Market. After admiring the majestic view of the London skyline illuminated by a million twinkling lights, I ventured into the magical atmosphere of Borough Market.
This incredible market feels like a bustling hive of delicious discoveries! The aromas, the colourful stalls overflowing with the most exotic fruits and vegetables, the friendly smiles - this market really embodies the vibrant energy of London. And of course, the incredible array of street food had me in a dizzying food coma (but in the best possible way!). I indulged in the freshest sushi, sampled spicy Vietnamese curries and took a delicious bite out of the juiciest, most mouthwatering fruit! And to top it all off, I found the most incredible artisanal bakery, where the croissants were fluffy and golden, a symphony of butter and air, and the pastries - just little works of art! What’s a better evening - walking home with a delicious sweet treat and dreaming about my ballet debut (perhaps next week in the Tower Bridge)?
A Ballet Love Story
My London adventures wouldn’t be complete without indulging my love for ballet. Tonight, the magical energy of the Royal Ballet stage is pulling me in, inviting me to lose myself in a whirlwind of emotions! The graceful movement, the breathtaking technique, the captivating storytelling through dance – a love affair, it is.
This evening, it’s a story I’m already in love with, "Giselle,” It’s a ballet that always stays with me - the haunting beauty of the story, the passionate and sorrowful music, the ethereal beauty of the choreography, it stays with me, inspires me, inspires the ballerina in me.
This London journey, this day full of pink, fashion and food, it’s been an amazing journey. So, my darlings, until next Friday - I am off to prepare my favourite pink tulle and watch the dance unfold. But you know, you can find your own stories too. You know the secret, my darlings – let your own creativity fly, let your own unique style blossom! Don’t be afraid to stand out. Wear your own version of the pink tutu. It's not just a tutu, my darlings. It's a symbol of embracing who you are, of celebrating your individuality, of dancing through life with joy!
See you next week, and stay stylish!
