Hello my lovely Tutu Tribe!
I'm writing to you from the heart of Milan, a city buzzing with style and, dare I say it, even a little bit of pink! (Though, perhaps it’s just me). As you know, I've been on the road again, taking my pink tutu adventures across Europe, spreading the joy of dance and twirling wherever I go. Today, however, it's all about Milan, my darling!
For those of you who don’t know, this glamorous city has captured my heart since I first set foot here last year. There’s something so special about this place, its mix of old-world charm and cutting-edge fashion just resonates with me. I can’t even explain it, but I felt immediately at home, just like I always feel when I'm wearing my favourite pink tutu!
This week, I've been immersing myself in Milan’s beautiful ballet scene. The ballet performances here are breathtaking. On Tuesday, I saw a performance of Swan Lake, my absolute favourite. The music was sublime, the choreography exquisite, and the dancers...well, simply divine! It was a truly magical evening that left me speechless. I couldn't help but get caught up in the romance, the heartbreak, the triumphant journey of the beautiful swans. They're not all white though! There was a really fun sequence with a troupe of vibrant pink swans that brought a burst of color to the show, it was a perfect touch of playful energy to contrast with the classical, almost fairytale atmosphere. Seeing all these graceful ballerinas made me feel inspired, it reminded me just why I do what I do - bringing joy and movement through dance to everyone!
Milan’s theatre district was particularly vibrant. It's a symphony of grand old theatres, with incredible history, that seems to hum with an invisible energy. Everywhere I went, there was so much talent, a contagious enthusiasm and creativity that just made me want to start leaping myself. It was the most perfect start to my week, just waiting for me to twirl in, to soak it all up. It felt a bit like a ballet performance of its own, a beautiful and well-choreographed show for my eyes only, which of course included my lovely Tutu Tribe who get a front-row seat at all the drama.
But Milan isn’t just about ballets. I've been making the most of this city's other offerings, from indulging in its delicious food (a lot of pasta – thank goodness, pasta is a ballet dancer’s best friend! Haha) to exploring its stunning architecture, and taking in all the fashionable delights! My shopping bag is bulging (even with room for the pink tutu - one of my many essentials, of course).
My Pink Tutu Journey Through Milan:
Exploring The Duomo: Let's talk about the Duomo di Milano! It’s not hard to fall in love with this gothic masterpiece! Standing on the top of its tower looking out across the city, you truly feel the pulse of Milan. It felt so magical watching the city below with its busy streets and bustling squares, almost like I was seeing the world through the eyes of a ballet dancer – like we’re suspended mid-air looking down on the audience! There is no feeling quite like it! I'll be writing more about the Duomo next week with a picture post of all the gorgeous views, I was so impressed I forgot to even grab a selfie, I just felt like soaking up all the majesty.
A Day of Ballet Classes: To really delve into Milan’s vibrant ballet scene, I hit up a few ballet studios in the city centre. The students here are truly gifted, I was surrounded by an incredible passion for dance. It was so inspiring! Watching their movements, each little prance and extension so controlled and yet, with a flow that's totally unique. I mean, you don't see dancers flowing like this everywhere. Of course, my tutu travelled with me, it’s like my lucky charm when I’m searching out inspiration for the Pink Tutu Tribe, and it did the trick! I found some incredibly talented young dancers eager to learn, all of them totally excited by my sparkly pink creation - you just can’t beat the thrill of getting other people to embrace pink!
Milan's Magnificent Museums: Stepping into these art museums was like stepping into a time capsule. There’s so much to discover! Every painting felt like a masterpiece! The detail was just incredible! And that colour, wow! Milan seems to whisper to you from every single canvas and statue, you can almost feel its artistic spirit radiating outwards into the streets. Even as a ballet girl at heart, I can’t resist being swept up in the majesty of an old masterpiece, feeling like a little ballerina stepping through time, a swirling vision amidst all that artistry.
Milan's Delicious Delights: And what’s a Pink Tutu trip without some fabulous treats? Milan is overflowing with fantastic cafes and restaurants – I have to say I'm not shy about ordering that second helping, a girl's gotta fuel her dance! I had some amazing focaccia and cappuccinos (it was impossible to resist the caffeine fix, especially after all those dance classes) and there was an incredible market filled with Italian produce and artisanal cheeses, yum!
Milan's Charming Tram Rides: Milan has this wonderful tram system, a bit like the one I used to hop on back in Derbyshire. You just jump on and travel along with the locals! So much fun! As I whizzed along in this enchanting metal beast, I felt so connected to the people and the life of this gorgeous city.
Travel By Train Milan also has the most fabulous railway station, with incredible architecture, its vast vaulted halls seem to resonate with a magical buzz. Stepping on that train and looking out across the countryside, it felt like a scene straight out of one of my favourite ballet films. The changing scenery is so inspiring - I’ll probably write a new tutu design inspired by all the pretty pastel fields and wildflowers! The countryside is really quite stunning around Milan. It’s truly something special.
Fashioning My Own Style
Speaking of the countryside and floral designs, I spotted a stunning boutique yesterday brimming with handmade clothes and gorgeous embroidery. I picked out a stunning silk scarf that'll be the perfect accessory for my next performance – and, yes, you guessed it, it's pink! (Can you tell that my favourite colour is pink? If you’ve not gathered yet – I really, really love pink tutus!). I have to tell you about the amazing dress I bought! I can’t stop thinking about it. Imagine, a soft pink tulle with the most delicate flower pattern – like little roses in a dream, it was absolutely gorgeous. My dear Tutu Tribe, we really must have an online shop with all my favourite outfits, that is definitely a business opportunity for my blog. Imagine pink tutus, ballet themed garments and fabulous little floral prints – I think it could be a major success! I might have even purchased a pink hat! Don’t tell my friends, I’ve not yet mentioned my love for hats to them.
I’m also working on a brand-new choreography inspired by my recent travels – maybe something romantic with a whimsical touch to represent Milan, perhaps a hint of floral artistry with some whimsical flourishes! We’ll see! Maybe there will even be a touch of pink - after all, what's ballet without a bit of fun?
More Pink Tutu Milan Next Week
As always, I'm enjoying every moment here. This city has truly embraced me with open arms, and my pink tutu has made me feel like a true part of the vibrant and energetic Milanese community. It's already on my list to visit again soon - the gelato here is fabulous! (If I had to have a dessert of choice - this is it, you simply have to indulge here!). Oh, I almost forgot – I found some incredible shops selling pink shoes! Pink satin and velvet, all sparkly and ready to be danced in. What a treat! I have to find time to share a picture with my Tutu Tribe next week!
If you’re thinking of travelling to Milan, do not hesitate! Let me know if you need any inspiration, and maybe we’ll catch a ballet show together!
Until next week, keep twirling!
Much love,
Emma xxx
