Pink Tutu Prague: A Whirlwind of Culture, Fashion, and... Unicorns?! (Blog Post #1570)

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure! This week, I'm whisking you all away to the stunning, historic city of Prague. And guess what? I've got a whole heap of pink-tastic goodness to share, including a magical ballet performance, some seriously stylish shopping finds, and an unexpected encounter with…a unicorn? (Yes, you read that right!)

It’s been a long journey from Derbyshire to Prague. The journey by train, followed by a delightfully bumpy ride in a pink, feathered carriage (actually, a very glamorous horse and cart) made the journey feel even more romantic. The Czech capital is absolutely buzzing with excitement! This city’s ancient architecture, charming cobbled streets, and stunning riverside views left me utterly speechless.

And what’s a visit to Prague without a visit to one of the world's most famous ballet companies?

This week, I got to see the incredible National Theatre's production of "The Nutcracker". I mean, let’s be honest – I couldn't not see it. My pink tulle heart was beating with anticipation, and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed! The artistry, the energy, the sheer talent on display – it was a pure delight!

And speaking of sheer delight… the National Theatre’s wardrobe department needs to be commended. The costumes! I was especially mesmerized by the Snow Queen’s ice-white gown, crafted with intricate detailing and a hint of glitter. There were tutus that flowed and spun like dreams, shimmering gowns that glowed with otherworldly magic, and some of the most intricately-designed character costumes I've ever seen! It made me long for the days when I was young and carefree and all I cared about were twirling in tulle. Speaking of tutus, what about my fabulous, pink tulle skirt? This particular creation had an explosion of soft ruffles that made me look like a sugary cloud in motion – truly, a dream for any ballerina on the go. And with a backdrop of the grand, glittering theatre, my pink tutu was in its absolute element!

Of course, a ballet adventure isn't complete without some shopping, and let me tell you, Prague's got some seriously amazing shops! There was this adorable boutique called "Pink Ballerina", I kid you not! They had all sorts of delightful things for the ballerina in all of us, like beautiful silk ribbons and little porcelain ballerina figurines, gorgeous velvet hairbands and gorgeous pink tutus – of course I snagged a pair of pearl-encrusted ballerina shoes in blush pink that I couldn't resist! My pink tutu-wearing heart is brimming with joy and it felt just right to add to my growing collection! But don't worry, my dear readers, I didn't let shopping get in the way of my cultural exploration.

You see, I've always been fascinated by history, and the stories behind these beautiful historic buildings are utterly captivating! After my performance I went on a guided tour of Prague Castle – the biggest ancient castle in the world – a magical adventure I must admit. The stunning St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane – filled with fairytale cottages! This place was truly a medieval fairytale. It’s fascinating how this castle was home to monarchs for centuries and served as the centre of Bohemian political life and as an important symbol of the power of the ruling families throughout history. The stories of princes, queens and noble knights. I couldn't help but daydream about the magnificent costumes and graceful waltzes that might have graced these halls back in the day. I'm going back for a night show at the castle. A medieval show, you might say!

But the best part of my Prague adventure is the incredible sense of community that this city exudes. From the lively street performers, singing enchanting tunes on the cobblestone streets, to the friendly cafe owners who made sure I always had a table near the window to watch the world go by – every encounter made me feel like I was part of a secret club. I am certainly keeping a mental diary of the charming cafes and bars I have already visited with all the names of the sweet baristas who topped my lattes with a little pink, frilly heart! But as with every visit to Prague there must be the visit to my absolute favourite. That’s right, I’m talking about The Dancing House. Every time I visit I have to have my little pink photo-op at The Dancing House – Prague’s most iconic modern landmark, known for its flowing lines and playful shape!

Prague also boasts some of the most spectacular street art scenes in Europe, the bold colors, the beautiful graffiti and the amazing murals. After my coffee and before my afternoon show, I found this incredibly impressive large-scale mural of a majestic pink unicorn! It seemed a magical encounter almost meant to be. As I gazed at this stunning work of art, the magical pink aura surrounding this whimsical creature truly felt magical! It almost seemed like it could magically whisk me back in time, to a realm where dreams and fairytales became reality. This magical feeling has certainly lingered long after my adventures! It was simply magical!

And then there’s the beautiful river running through the heart of this ancient city. The Vltava River – where boats cruise beneath the golden setting sun! A beautiful, historical city with a bustling river running through it; I know that's a popular combination of factors among other "Pink Tutu" travelers and I am thrilled to experience it firsthand. There are also wonderful little rowing boats for hire that made me just want to jump in a pink tulle tutu and be on that magical boat. The boats I am looking at now aren’t pink – or maybe they were just camouflaged in the setting sun – but if I'm back in the summer, a little splash of pink in my life will certainly make that more attractive!

To those who have already visited Prague – I’m sure this city doesn’t need an introduction from me. And to the lovely lot of you that are yet to take a trip – I wholeheartedly recommend putting Prague at the top of your must-visit list!

And lastly, as a promise to my ever-so-lovely readers – I am bringing home not just the amazing fashion inspiration but an incredible new appreciation for the unique magic of the beautiful Czech Republic!

Until next Wednesday, my lovelies, let's keep dreaming pink and twirling our hearts out!

Much love and happy dancing, Emma xx

*P.S. Did I tell you the incredible news? I've been chosen to perform as a guest ballerina at the prestigious "Prague Ballet Gala" this weekend! Get ready for some seriously breathtaking ballet in an unbelievable, glittering theatre! It's sure to be an unforgettable show – and of course, I'll be there in my pinkest, fluffiest tutu. So watch out for my pink, spinning silhouette! *
