Prague's Magical Ballet Sparkle: A Pink Tutu's Dream Come True! (Post #1616)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your pink-loving tutu aficionado, back with another whimsical travel adventure! This week, I've landed in Prague, a city overflowing with breathtaking architecture, captivating history, and, most importantly, a thriving ballet scene! Yes, I'm back on the pink-tutu trail, ready to twirl through Prague's charming cobblestone streets and delve into the world of its beloved ballet heritage.

This journey feels like a fairytale, even before arriving. Leaving the quaint rolling hills of Derbyshire, I took the train (a most civilised form of travel!) with its vintage carriages and wide, plush seats. This, coupled with a quick and fun-filled journey on my beloved chestnut mare, Belle (a truly luxurious addition to my pre-ballet adventure, don't you think!), left me in the most blissful and twirly mood.

And just as Prague's famed Astronomical Clock chimes with that special "tick-tock," my adventure in this city of magic begins! I am in the heart of a metropolis steeped in the finest ballet history, an alluring backdrop for a passionate pink tutu wearer like myself.

Now, onto my mission! My first port of call, as always, is exploring the history of ballet in this magnificent city. As I weave through Prague's stunning squares, past buildings dating back centuries, I can almost picture elegant ballerinas from bygone eras performing beneath shimmering chandeliers in opulent ballrooms.

Prague's National Theatre (with its striking neo-Renaissance architecture), the graceful Municipal House, and the exquisitely decorated Old Town Square (all stunning! Just, wow!), have hosted the finest performances in the city for decades. Can't you just imagine the echoes of dancing shoes? And of course, those amazing pink tutus. They just float in my imagination - an endless swirling symphony of tulle! I just have to go see the places these legends performed - oh my! Every street corner feels so imbued with ballet history!

Today's must-see show is at the magnificent National Theatre, a performance I've been dreaming about since I landed in Prague. They're performing a beautiful interpretation of "Swan Lake". There's nothing quite like experiencing the raw power, the grace, the incredible beauty, of the most beloved ballet classics live on stage, don't you think? With every single plié and arabesque, I get goosebumps. And it almost feels like my tulle and satin will shimmer just a little bit brighter with each twirling and elevated gesture of the ballerina on stage. And the music, oh, it makes me want to float off in a swirl of feathers and pink tutus!

This, of course, demands a bit of retail therapy to properly prepare for the evening. Prague is brimming with exquisite vintage shops and fashion boutiques. After spending a glorious hour perusing (or should I say "dancing through") the most charming shops in the Old Town Square, I managed to discover the perfect pink, rose-print scarf to complete my outfit for this magnificent show! It has the most elegant tassels, just like the ballerina's hair. It also has an incredible iridescent shimmer to it - almost like those vintage tutu skirts they wore during the "golden age" of ballet. I think I've fallen a little in love, but I'm sure you understand, darlings!

Prague's shopping scene is something truly special. It's where fashion dreams collide, especially when a pink tutu enthusiast is on the scene. The boutiques burst with stylish dresses and skirts and the perfect velvet boots - all the perfect accoutrements for a day (or, dare I say, even a lifetime) filled with beautiful dancing.

Of course, any journey, even for a ballerina, requires a touch of "après-ballet". To satisfy my gourmand soul, I made a pitstop at "U Medvidků", Prague's oldest brewpub. This pub is filled with so much character and has that gorgeous historical charm (perfect for this pink-tutu-loving traveler!). The walls are covered with amazing antique tapestries, some dating back centuries, while a charming medieval music soundtrack plays (imagine dancing in that space...it's breathtaking!) Here, I indulged in the rich flavors of local delicacies, especially a special honey beer which I highly recommend - a delectable drink, if a bit cheeky, in an atmosphere where even the tables and chairs have seen centuries pass by.

Finally, back to the National Theatre, feeling utterly magical. As I stand in front of the grandeur of the theatre, surrounded by this city of historical beauty and cultural charm, I feel truly lucky.

With every pirouette on stage, I see the pure talent, passion and incredible artistry of every ballerina, and my soul sings along with the music. Their dedication, skill, and ability to tell stories through their bodies and the sheer, utter joy on their faces, leave me breathless and wanting more.

This show has transported me to a realm where fantasy, music, and graceful movement come together in breathtaking perfection.

I’ve been captivated by the rich history and stunning ballet performances here, from the dazzling stages to the stunning historical architecture, and of course, those inspiring stories from Prague's ballet legacy. This truly was an unforgettable ballet adventure - every dancer was an embodiment of artistry, their movement pure grace. They captured the spirit of Prague with a graceful blend of tradition and innovation - just like a lovely pink tutu in its very best dancing performance.

But darlings, before I bid adieu until next Wednesday, I want to share some advice I've picked up during my time here - little ballet-infused tips that make every trip that little bit more dazzling. These are, of course, inspired by a ballerina living the Pink Tutu dream!

  • * Embrace a little "sparkle".* Wear something that catches your eye! Prague is all about exquisite craftsmanship and artistry - just like a ballerina, it adds that perfect finishing touch!

    • Go beyond the usual tours and explore. Head off the beaten path. There's a different side of Prague waiting to be discovered. Don't be afraid to step off the trail (in the style of a beautiful swan!), and let yourself get lost in the magic and mystery. It's how you'll find hidden gem shops, cozy cafes, and unexpected encounters, like discovering the loveliest of hidden ballerina-themed murals tucked away in a quiet cobbled street, that make your trip really unique.

    • Remember your ballet grace when crossing cobbled streets! Those lovely stones can get a little tricky. But, with a little ballet-inspired grace, you'll make every crossing look effortless, almost like a ballet sequence.

      • Support local talent. This applies whether it’s ballet performances, the local bakers, or your lovely boutique purchases. The city's charm stems from these people - and they make a lovely ballerina feel truly at home. It's also the ultimate expression of a dance-loving traveller!

Until next week, when I'll be bringing you a peek at Vienna and a celebration of ballet, tutus, and all things lovely!

With much love, twirls and ballerina sparkle,

Emma
