Ciao bellas! It’s Emma from #PinkTutuRome, and it’s Wednesday which means another instalment of my travel blog, this time, direct from the heart of the Roman Empire.
Now, who’s ready for a dash of magic and a sprinkle of pink? I’ve got news for you: I am officially a full-blown #TutuTourist, wandering through cobblestone streets, ancient ruins and glamorous shops – all, naturally, with my signature pink tutu trailing behind me.
Rome, my dears, is truly a whirlwind of captivating sights, delicious smells, and endless charm. It’s a city where history whispers through ancient arches, where laughter dances on sunny piazzas, and where the scent of espresso fills the air with promise.
Getting there: My favourite way to travel:
First things first, I’m absolutely in love with travelling by train. Yes, I do mean by train! My Derbyshire roots give me an intrinsic appreciation for the comfort and picturesque views afforded by these incredible, chugging engines. I arrived in Rome from Florence after a most enjoyable journey; a symphony of Italian charm unfolding before me through the windows of the sleek high-speed carriages. The rhythmic click-clacking of the train, the friendly chatter in the compartment, the delicious aromas emanating from the café carriage, the passing scenery of olive groves, vineyards and breathtaking valleys - it’s pure magic.
My Rome Diaries:
The city has been utterly breathtaking. Every corner is filled with fascinating sights, charming boutiques, and of course, delicious Italian cuisine. And I’ve discovered a truly incredible secret about Rome that I am thrilled to share with you. It's hidden in the heart of the city, tucked away amidst bustling markets and cobbled lanes, where it dances in the shadows of majestic architecture, and it's even more magnificent than any coliseum! It's ballet!
Yes, I've been a little busy exploring Rome’s incredible dance scene. I’ve found some exquisite dance schools and been attending some fantastic ballet performances. Honestly, the sheer talent and the stories the dancers tell without a single spoken word, are just breathtaking. The grace and fluidity, the emotion and dedication, they fill me with awe.
But it’s not just the performances that I’m in awe of. The culture here has me mesmerised. It’s a constant immersion into a world where life unfolds at a slightly slower pace, where passion bubbles up from every corner of society. You feel the energy of the Roman Empire pulse in the streets. It’s in the art, in the music, and, oh my dear, it’s absolutely in the fashion!
A Shopaholic's Paradise
Rome’s fashion scene is as dynamic as its history. I’ve had my credit card whizzing around with more energy than a speeding Ferrari. Seriously, my dears, I need an intervention because I think I’m officially addicted to Roman fashion!
Let me tell you, I’ve been doing some seriously splendid shopping. The boutiques are a treasure trove of leather handbags, stylish knitwear and chic shoes that will give your wardrobe a serious boost. My personal favourites include the tiny leather handbags that pop with colours, which are just the right size for a ballerina who is always on the move. I’ve even treated myself to some lovely ballet slippers to add a touch of je ne sais quoi to my pink tutus!
Food glorious Food!
Now, when I’m not twirling through ancient streets, I'm indulging in Rome’s world-renowned food scene. Pizza! Pasta! Gelato! What's not to love! From mouth-watering plates of pasta that melts in your mouth to the most divine creamy gelato - each flavour an explosion of authentic Italian flavour - this is foodie heaven.
Italians live to eat, they truly do, and their passion for creating flavourful, decadent food is an art form.
On my itinerary for tomorrow
Tomorrow, my darlings, I'll be heading to one of Rome's most famous monuments - the Trevi Fountain! And of course, I'm going to make a wish for more fabulous travel adventures, incredible ballet shows, more fabulous outfits, and even more of this delicious, decadent Italian food! And while I'm throwing in a coin for good luck, I'm also tossing in a few sprinkles of pink!
My message to you:
Keep those tutus twirling, dear readers! Every day can be an adventure with the right kind of spirit and a bit of sparkle. It’s your journey. Make it fabulous! Make it pink!
And don't forget to catch me next Wednesday, when I'll be telling you all about my magical visit to the Trevi Fountain, where, it's rumoured, wishes really do come true.
Yours in twirling pink,
Emma
