Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, back from the eternal city – Rome! This week's Pink Tutu post is a bit late, I've been having way too much fun in Italy! But don't worry, I’ve got lots to share with you about my fabulous Roman adventure. This was my second visit, and as a bit of a history buff, I find the historical heart of the city simply magical.
I arrived on a Sunday afternoon, having caught the train all the way from Derbyshire. Now, there’s nothing quite like a long train journey with a good book and a flask of pink lemonade, you know? Especially when you're wearing a brand new fluffy pink tutu, like the one I’d just picked up at a vintage market in Florence! My top tip for train travel, my lovelies, is always bring a shawl – those air-conditioned carriages can get a bit nippy.
Of course, once I stepped out of Termini station into the warm Italian sunshine, I immediately had to get my usual “I've just arrived in Rome!” shot with the iconic Colosseum in the background. My pink tutu, which is oh-so-fluffy, swirled with the breeze, and the picture came out perfectly. This, you guys, is how you do tourist photos, I reckon!
Now, you’re probably wondering, how did I find my way around this amazing city? The answer, my lovelies, is a map, and a great big helping of spontaneous curiosity! I mean, how can you pass up exploring hidden cobbled streets lined with gorgeous flower pots? Each one, a tiny piece of history that whispers secrets. I've lost count of the number of Instagrammable squares, ancient fountains and breathtaking views I've stumbled upon. I must tell you, those little gelato shops just off the beaten track are definitely worth discovering – trust me, their ice cream is divine!
But my Rome trip wasn’t just about history and culture, darling, it was all about the art, fashion and, yes, you guessed it – ballet! The highlight of my visit was absolutely seeing the performance of La Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The whole thing was a feast for the senses. I can still feel the magic of the lights, the music, the energy – just brilliant!
Of course, a good show calls for a fancy dress up, and I certainly didn’t disappoint. I went for a sleek, elegant black dress, and, of course, a hint of pink! I paired it with a statement pink flower in my hair and black sparkly ballet shoes. It was simple, classic, and oh so flattering.
Now, for you fashion lovers out there, let me tell you, the shops in Rome are simply phenomenal! You could easily spend a whole day shopping on Via Condotti alone. They have such exquisite designers, beautiful leather goods and stunning shoes. The most incredible vintage stores too! You really could lose yourself in the world of Italian fashion here.
While I’ve been focusing on getting that quintessential Italian look down pat (think flowing skirts, linen shirts, a dash of bling and, naturally, pink!), I also found some adorable pink tutus in some of those shops too.
I even snuck into a few ballet classes while I was in Rome – so much fun! One class even offered ballet shoes decorated with tiny little Roman Colosseum motifs, how clever! It was such a delightful way to immerse myself in the Italian way of life.
Overall, my time in Rome was incredible. It was an amazing combination of the historical, the cultural and the beautiful, all mixed in with a generous sprinkle of "pinktutuism".
Remember, darlings, don’t be afraid to embrace a bit of sparkle, even on your travels. I’m on a mission to make the world a pinker, twirlier, more joyful place, and it starts with you! So, wear a tutu, let loose and embrace your inner ballerina!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a whole bunch of new pink outfits to put on and another exciting journey to plan… See you all next Wednesday!
