Hello my lovely Pink Tutu peeps! It’s Wednesday again, which means it's time for another fabulously pink adventure from your favourite tutu-clad traveller - that’s me, Emma! This week, I've traded my Derbyshire dales for the glorious streets of Rome! I'm so excited to be exploring the Eternal City, and trust me, you won't believe the outfits I've been putting together! 😉
Train-spotting, tutus, and a taste of Italy:
I adore travelling by train, especially the Eurostar, it’s so glamorous! After a smooth journey, I was greeted by the stunning scenery of the Italian countryside, making me even more excited to discover what Rome had in store. Arriving at Roma Termini, it was clear I had arrived in a place that is bursting with history, culture, and of course, fabulous fashion inspiration! I know it sounds cliche, but you truly can feel the magic in the air, from the cobbled streets to the iconic sights around every corner.
The Colosseum and a touch of pink
Right, my first port of call had to be the Colosseum - it's a must-see, a monumental marvel, and quite frankly, a breathtaking sight! To be honest, the sheer size of the Colosseum took my breath away! I couldn't help but imagine the gladiatorial battles that took place centuries ago, and picture all the colourful robes and costumes fluttering about. It’s certainly inspired me for some ballet choreography!
I’m all about finding pink accents wherever I go, and even amongst the ancient stone, a burst of colour adds a playful touch. I decided to make a statement with a light pink ribbon around my hair. It was the perfect complement to my soft pink tutu, with its intricate embroidery, and it added a touch of whimsy to the otherwise ancient setting. Of course, the sun shining through the Roman arches created an enchanting aura that made the photos just dreamy. My camera has been working overtime capturing this incredible trip.
Fountains, pasta, and a perfect outfit
No visit to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Trevi Fountain, and let me tell you, this place is as magical as they say! It's like stepping into a fairytale! Imagine crystal clear waters cascading down a magnificent white structure, the sunlight glinting off the intricate sculptures and a joyful energy radiating all around. Oh, the photo opportunities were just irresistible. For this occasion, I paired my sparkly blush pink tutu with a vintage lace blouse - a truly delicate, feminine touch! I even managed to sneak a cheeky selfie with the cheeky Cupid sculpture, reminding me of a very specific romantic ballet. (Hint: The Nutcracker).
We have to talk about food! Rome has become the ultimate foodie paradise for me! So much fresh, delicious food! Think cheesy pastas, rich tiramisu, perfectly-baked pizza, and the sweetest gelato. Of course, I managed to indulge in my favourite - a raspberry sorbet and the most delightful limoncello gelato (that’s Italian lemon sorbet). My Instagram stories are a true reflection of how much I am enjoying the local delicacies! I’ll be sure to share some recipes soon!
Dancing and a dose of Roman spirit
As I continued to wander through Rome's vibrant streets, I stumbled upon an open-air market that felt alive with the music of local musicians. The energy was so contagious! A woman selling scarves began a dance. It was such a unique experience – like seeing a glimpse of everyday life turned into a magical moment. The atmosphere felt truly Roman! I have to confess, the feeling inspired me to begin a spontaneous little dance myself, and what do you know? I found myself in the middle of a crowd of enthusiastic onlookers who started clapping along! You just know that Rome has that kind of infectious energy.
The ballet side of me just had to find the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! The opera house’s majestic architecture and grandeur were mesmerising. I can't wait to explore the programme and book tickets for a performance later this week. This city seems to be the ultimate stage for every story, from gladiators to ballet ballerinas to a young woman from Derbyshire who just wanted to share her love of tutus and pink. I even had the honour of meeting a local ballet teacher who was so charming, and I managed to get her to teach me a few moves in my beautiful, pink tutu. What a treat! I can’t wait to share those on my Pink Tutu Reels on Instagram!
Style inspiration on every street corner
Rome is an absolute fashion dream come true. It's so effortlessly stylish! The Romans have a special touch - it's a mix of classic chic and casual cool, all with a unique Italian twist. Everywhere I looked, there were women in bold prints and beautiful colours, and of course, they all rocked those gorgeous silk scarves and chic, oversized sunglasses! I mean, the city just radiates this playful yet sophisticated vibe! To make it my own, I incorporated elements of Rome into my wardrobe - a pop of red for the Colosseum, a green silk scarf to symbolise the Roman landscape, and a vintage brown handbag for an old world touch.
A pink flamingo and the Roman Forum
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without exploring the Roman Forum! It's a captivating maze of ancient ruins and broken marble. There's such an enchanting silence in these historical remnants. This trip has been about discovering beauty in unexpected places. I discovered this sweet little pink flamingo figurine amongst the ancient marble – the most fitting accessory to my outfit! The juxtaposition of history and fun is what I think truly defines Roman style.
And, it goes without saying, I found myself a local artisan’s market overflowing with handmade accessories. Of course, I just had to snag some beautiful silk pink scarfs! I love finding beautiful things and treasures that tell a story, and my bag is quickly becoming my most beautiful pink trophy collection of trinkets and souvenirs.
From the rooftops to the pasta paradise
As you can tell, Rome has stolen my heart. The views from the rooftop bars at sunset, the beautiful pastel colours that adorn many buildings, and the joyful sound of live music in every corner… I’m already plotting my next visit. I mean, it is so inspiring, and let's be honest, a place where you can get such delicious pizza with deliciously pink pink wine, is simply unforgettable.
I can't wait to share more stories from my Roman adventure next Wednesday. And remember, you don’t need a Colosseum, a fountain, or even a trip to Rome to wear pink! My challenge this week – embrace the sunshine, grab a big smile, and don’t forget to make every day feel special! After all, even the biggest fashionista can look great in pink…and it’s never too late to add a pink tutu to your wardrobe. 💖 Until next time, my dears! Ciao from Rome!
