Hampstead Heaven: Tutu-ing Through London Town

Hello my lovely ballet bunnies! 🐰 It's Emma here, and I'm so excited to share my adventures from a trip to Hampstead, one of my absolute favourite places in London!

I've always loved this charming, historic part of the city, with its cobbled streets, quaint little shops and beautiful parks. Today, however, I had a particularly special reason for venturing there – I was heading to the Royal Ballet's headquarters at the Royal Opera House!

My heart skipped a beat as I stepped off the train and the majestic building came into view. As a dancer myself, it’s a place that holds a truly magical aura – just the thought of stepping inside made me feel like a princess in a fairy tale. But even before I stepped into that world of wonder, Hampstead itself was a perfect setting for my trusty orange tutu!

Yes, my dears, I decided to channel my inner prima ballerina and embrace a little bit of sunshine on my journey! You know me – always going for the bright, cheerful and vibrant! 😉 It wasn't your average "London look," but I loved the playful contrast against the muted autumnal hues. Honestly, everyone seemed to appreciate the pop of colour. I had a gentleman at the cafe (who even bought me a delicious pink cake - just perfect for the tutu occasion!) comment on how my tutu brought joy to his dreary afternoon.

Anyway, back to my ballerina mission… The Royal Opera House did not disappoint. I practically floated through the grand halls, admiring the opulent decorations and historical portraits. I could almost feel the ghosts of countless dancers who had graced these stages in the past! My orange tutu definitely felt right at home amidst the opulent chandeliers and rich tapestry. I even popped into the gift shop and treated myself to a little souvenir. It's always nice to pick up a small memento of my ballerina adventures!

The real highlight of my trip, however, was the Ballet in the Studio workshop I attended. It was amazing to get an inside glimpse into the lives of professional ballet dancers. They're incredibly disciplined, of course, and clearly put their heart and soul into every movement. Their passion was inspiring, and it reminded me why I love this art form so much. I had such a great time working with the instructor – he actually said my turnout was “superb!” blushing And of course, a little bit of graceful movement is always good for the soul! I’ll definitely be incorporating some of their warm-up stretches into my routine.

But Hampstead wasn't all about ballet – it also presented me with some gorgeous nature spots! I explored the Hampstead Heath, the stunning green expanse that hugs this side of London. With crisp autumn air filling my lungs and colourful leaves swirling around my feet, I found a quiet spot near a pond, put on some of my favourite ballet music, and practised a few turns. The swans swimming by were such graceful, elegant companions, as if applauding my every movement!

The other bonus was, as always, the amazing wildlife! Just like my adventures in the Peak District, where I’m from, London is brimming with critters of all shapes and sizes. Today, a cheeky squirrel was trying to make off with a delicious apple he found on a bench, and a ginger cat was lounging under a tree like it owned the park. So cute! The joy they bring to every little moment is a reminder of why we should cherish each day and always take time to notice the small things in life.

By the time I reached the charming Hampstead tube station, my day felt truly complete. It had been full of beautiful dance, incredible history, delicious food, nature's sweet surprises and – of course! – the joy of wearing my trusty orange tutu. Every moment was filled with a delicious dose of the “pink tutu spirit”, which is all about bringing happiness to everyone around us.

But the adventures aren't over! I have even bigger plans brewing for next week. A trip to the theatre with some friends for a fabulous new production – and I've been trying to pick the perfect outfit! I can't reveal too much just yet, but I can assure you, it will definitely involve a touch of pink and a dash of tutu-inspired fashion!

And, my lovelies, don't forget! Keep spreading the pink tutu spirit and let's work towards a world where everyone has the chance to experience the magic of ballet – even if it's just by popping on a tutu and pirouette-ing around your living room. 🩰

Stay fabulous and keep twirling, Emma
